How do I do this hairstyle?

How is this done? What is this hairstyle called? (Seems like a partial milkmaid, yet both braids are the same thickness.)

I quite honestly think that the one on the picture is a lie... But could be done with reall hair..

I imagine you could do two braids wrap each around the head, milk maid style, and have enough hair left to hand the ends on oposite shoulders... You would need considerable length for that...

Or you could do 4 braids... Two make a milkmaid braid, the remaining two over the shoulder... They will be skinny braids unless you have thick hair...

Thats all i cam imagine how this would be done.

Ah wait... 3 braids too, two over the shoulder, one around your head, also requires quite the length. :)

Actually... There is ine more way... Make one braid at the center of your nape, wrap it around the head, and yhe it gets back to the center if your nape, half the braid, make it two braids, and drape over shoulder. Very very long hair needed.

That's pretty. Don't know what it's called, but it might be a piece? It looks like they took one long 3-strand braid and made a loop in the middle of it, then pinned the loop (with the crossed part down) on the back of her head. You might achieve something similar if you did pigtails and pulled the left one to the right side, looped it over the top (pinned) and then pulled the end over the right shoulder, then did a reflective motion with the right braid. However, that would give you double braids on the top. And, you'd have to have seriously long hair to accomplish it. It would still be very pretty, though. I'm willing to bet that that's not her real hair. I don't think there's any way to make a single braid on the top of the head without making the tails uneven.

It doesn't look like the top braid is "woven-in," so I don't think it's a dutch or lace braid. It looks as though it's laid on top. I could be wrong, however.
Maybe you could do it with three braids? :shrug: But I don't think it would look great in the back if you did that?

My thoughts are similar to the ones already mentioned, but I thought I would add a comment about thickening up the braids once you've done them. No matter how you go about it, I think the braids would come out pretty skinny. You could try tugging gently at the elbow of each braid to puff it out a bit. It'll make the braid look wider, but it would end up decreasing length instead. Pretty hairdo, though :-)

Hey :) This is actually a favourite hairstyle of mine that I just made up as I went along one day. I have very fine, damaged, layered and generally quite horrid hair that is thinning and snapping that I am now babying! So I definitely don't have lots and lots of thick hair, which is why my version isn't quite as glorious as this yet :(

What I did was take a small section of hair from behind each ear and english plait them, then wrap them both over the top of my head, pinning at the opposite ear. This made it loot like one thick braid. Then I smoothed the hair from in front of my ears over the start of each braid to disguise that and plaited it into the two braids.

I imagine if I had long, even and thick hair I would be able to actually do it like that picture and wrap one thick braid from the back of my head around... one day :)

Well anyway, here is a picture from a month ago when I wore my version of the hairstyle, it's a bit messy though!

You could do it by some creative sectioning. If your hair is long enough you could just take a centre back piece but another option would be to take a bit from behind one ear with some central hair. Braid it and pin on top of the head. Then split the remaining hair in two (would look nice with some crossed sections to hide the parting) and plait. The plait would hide the pins from the first one and the first one could finish higher up, just behind the ear even. Which would be a much more manageable length. I think I'm going to have to add this to be to do for my you tube tutorials though as it's so pretty and now i want to be able to do it!

Pretty sure that would be a hair piece, as braided hair pieces were quite common in the hairstyles of the 1940's. But, I have to say, rohirrrims version is quite pretty (and ingenious), and probably the only way of doing the hairstyle without hair pieces or very long hair. I could also see doing three braids in the back, and taking the center braid and wrapping it around the head in a crown and hiding the end under itself in the back, but this means that your braid would have to be the same length as the circumference of your head. You have your current length listed as 40", so it just MAY be long enough to do it that way....:shrug:

Here's my messy version.

Make horizontal part from in front of right ear, around top of head, to in front of left ear. Comb hair to side. Begin to braid loosely.

Comb remainder of hair down the back, divide in two parts, braid each part.

To give greater stability, I threaded the braid on top through the top of each braid, then continued pinning underneath the crown braid.

My hair is just scraping knee (well, some of it!)

Basically, make a braid, swirl it around the head and pin it in place and allow the remaining length to hang down. And the length is to be in two braids. This is a Hollywood photo and like uses hair wig stuff.

I had three braids, two that I let hang in the front and one where I pinned like a headband with bobby pins. In the back, I tucked the tail end of the headband braid into the start of base of it and secured with mini hair clips. Thanks for the compliments! My hair is a bit past my knees at the moment, I doubt I could have done the hairstyle if it was even a foot shorter.
