buns with cement hold for slippery hair days

Hey guys,

I was just wondering what buns hold the best for you when your hair is particularly soft and slippery i er.. over did a treatment the other day and this morning my hair all but slid out of all buns but, the orchid bun stayed :cool: this bun is awesome it stayed all day considering my hair is as soft as silk and left me with pretty waves when i took it down.

So, what do you rely on when your hair is like this i need some inspiration i don't want to shampoo the cones out just yet i only clarified last week and i'm pretty much co wash only.

I had the same thing happen. Usually im no silicone but i did the clairol radiance translucent color gloss recently and my hair became so slippery my usual lazy wrap wouldnt stay. Some kind of braided bun is the best bet for me under these circumstances, or a disk bun, but if all else fails i just do a french braid.

Gibraltar bun is supposedly named that way because it holds like a rock.

I like all braided buns for superb hold, especially if you start close to scalp or use a French/Dutch braid(s) as the base.

Sectioning buns or using accent braids prior to bunning helps too - it creates more grip and more loops through which to weave your hair toys.

It's kind of like a cinnabun flipped under a strand of hair and looking a bit like a French twist. I think it's super secure if you actually use hair toys to hold it.

I'm only APL, and too short for many bun styles yet! :)
French and dutch braids loosen considerably during the day. Paranda(i?) help them grip a little better.

Any braided bun usually works well, and interlaced braids holds like nothing else. If I need a quick solution I go for a hypno bun.

I like the orchid, which you've already mentioned, and the nautilus. Both are super secure. I also like to ponytail my hair and make a braided cinnamon bun, held with three small claw clips. It doesn't go anywhere.

Thanks for all the suggestions i really appreciate it :D :D yes i was thinking of trying the disc bun and the hypno this week they are the only other ones i can think of. My hair was so slippery a braid wasn't even going to stay, i find nautilus buns can slip out unless i do a super tight one which i don't like doing and yes flipped buns hold great especially with a ficcare.

I find a nautilus can slip out sometimes i never pony before braiding because i worry about damage but as i never wear ponytails anymore i guess it couldn't hurt.

For me, a twisted nautilus (the twisting sort of locks it in for me, somehow) tends to be about the height of security. Clamp it down with a ficcare or pin it into submission with a few more Amish pins than you thought you needed. Gibralter buns and Celtic Knots are great styles for staying secure with a stick or ficcare, too, but I wouldn't trust them to pins. Lots of people tend to find that starting the same buns off with a braid instead of loose or twisted hair tends to keep them together better, so that's always a useful variation, and if it slips out, you still have a braid.

My slippery hair buns are a disc bun or a pha bun and nautilus. An orchid is hit and miss for me. When it works it holds all day, when it doesn't just forget it and move on to another style.

A chinese wrap bun started with 4 crosses of a braid instead of a ponytail has become my secure go-to. Actually, I need to review some of these other styles because I should change things up a bit.

Wrapped bun with the right amount of tension hold most securely for me. My current favs:
* Neoma knot -- Instructions are somewhere on the site. The Articles section ate the originals with pics.
* Celtic knot
* Pencil bun secured vertically rather than horizontally

My go to "cement" hairstyle is a cinnibun secured with 2 spin pins. Holds all day long for 8+ hours while I'm at work. :)

I am going to have to say the masara bun, made from a Dutch braid. I can literally put one fork in it, and it will be super secure the entire day.

Another solid favorite is the pha bun.

And with the nautilus, I twist it as I wrap it around. I secure it in the center with a small ficcare. I really need a medium for it. Anyway, it holds like a rock, even when I go running several miles.

My answer to everything of course! Log roll held with a Ficcare. Holds like a rock no matter what I am doing or how long it has been since wash day.

Another that holds superbly is the modified Ellingwoman braid. It holds itself up! I do sometimes put a stick or at least an Amish pin or two in if I am working out with it, but normally it doesn't even need it. The braided nautilus holds almost as well, particularly with a thicker stick like a TT or my Vote Paladine spike.

I generally go for braided buns when I have ultra-slippery hair. Usually either a side rose bun or a braided nautilus at the nape.

Maximum security is a braided cinnamon bun held with spin pins and secured with an elastic at the base. Any type of braid works, but the box braid has the most hold. I don't do this particular type often, but if I want my hair to absolutely stay put without adjustment all day, this type of bun is a surefire guarantee. Great for Zumba :D

Chromis i love the log roll but having shorter hair can't get the standard version to work so i made a tutorial on my version its basically started off like a french twist normally i hold it with a ficcare but today i got it to work with one of my smaller flexi's

I didn't learn the braided nautie until I was at knee already, so I didn't realize it took so much hair! I think I started doing log rolls around tailbone though, so you are almost there :cheer:

I didn't learn the Ellingwoman until knee either but I've seen people do it around bsl. You just won't have as many loops:

Thanks :D yeah i think for the braided nautilus i will need at least tailbone length hair as i can only now do a really good nautilus as i can wrap twice round the loop! i can do a mini log roll as i'm a teeny bit past hip length they do hold brilliantly then i saw while looking on youtube today Hypnotica's french slide twist! that holds brilliantly so there's another good one to try.

I love your elling woman bun i tried it not to long ago and it was really secure and well balanced i think the braid goes through the loop twice. Plenty of ideas for us with slippery hair it's hello hydrations fault i left it on 45 minutes normally the pouf factor means i dont normally have hair too soft.
