The advice was not to go to a more expensive stylist just a more skilled one:

Jen says itís better to invest in a really good (read: expensive) stylist/cut. ďGo to someone really good, then you donít have to go so often.Ē

The writer has taken the liberty to interject her own interpretation, but that is NOT what was actually quoted.

As a hairstylist, I've given similar advice to many of my clients. As the article says, everyone's hair is different. It's amazing how many people come for 6-8 week "trims" (.5"-1") because of what they've been told in the past and then wonder why they aren't seeing any growth.

I usually try to explain it with the old "one step forward, two steps back" adage. Seems to do the trick.
