I need some hairstyle suggestions for this dress I'm going to buy for my prom:

I wanted to go with a vintage hairstyle, and I thought you girls could help me find one :)
....And maybe a video explaining how to do it, too hahah.

Make-up suggestions would be great, too!
Thanks!:D

Heatless curls tied up into a high ponytail secured with a satin ribbon to match your dress. Very 50's.

How long is your hair?

Here's a picture tutorial of basically what Macaroni said, and it is designed for long hair: Rapunzel's Resource: Faux Short Pony Tail (http://rapunzelsresource.wordpress.com/2009/09/24/faux-short-pony-tail/).

Another one from the same site: Pin Curl Bun (http://rapunzelsresource.wordpress.com/2009/11/04/pin-curl-bun-the-flower-bun/).

I think it's just at BSL or close to it. (I'm not sure because I don't wear a bra often :p)

Thanks guys!
I was thinking more of a down-do, does anyone know any hair safe ways to do pin-curls or something of that sort?

ETA: Sorry, just looked at that tutorial! Thanks!

Oooh, pretty! What about a loose, curly half up, kinda like Bridgette Bardot?

As far as I know longish down or loose hair was just not 'done' in the 50s. I like the high ponytail idea.

A few years ago I wore a vintage style 50s dress to a wedding and just did my hair in a 40s style, down and loose , hair parted on the side with a couple pin curls on both sides up to get it off my face.

I think some classic brushed out pin curls will really suit the dress style, but if you prefer to wear it up, this is a very lovely option: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9Sv5r2eI6U
Sadly, my hair is a too long for it now. I used to skip backcombing, as my hair don't take it too well, but for a night it wont do much damage.

A half up with "kitten ears" search on youtube :) I wear that hairstyle almost every day, it's so cute...
There is so many videos about rockabilly hair on youtube, go nuts :)
Also look up Cherry Dollface, she has some amazing styles...

Such beautiful dress! I'd do a half up with loose curls or some kind of bun with a few strands of wawy or curly loose hair in the front to soften it up.

This is a lady that specializes in vintage hairstyles. I'm sure if you browse her video collection, you may find something. She's not heat-free, though, but -again- you might find something:

Thanks guys! I'm still undecided but I suppose I'll have to get the dress first to test out hairstyles! :o

That looks like Cinderella's gown! So you could try a Cibderella inspired hair style:) There are some tutorials on YouTube.

Kina's suggestions are very typical 1950's. You can do the rolled fringe idea (victory rolls, they are sometimes known as - for youtube) without heat. Kirby grips and practice and a bit of hairspray. Maybe you could roll the front and leave the long bit sort of curly and loose if you don't want to use heat. Set with cool rollers overnight, rolling the bottom of your hair underneath.

My best friend bought her first formal recital SPAM dress from SPAMALOT, and my other best friend and I bought our bridesmaid dresses for her wedding next month from the same company in SPAMSA.

That company is SPAMALOT, and they specialize in spam-offs.

Why? Because my co-matron-of-honor and I are two completely different body types. She’s 5-nothing. I’m 5′7″. She’s thin. I’m fat. The only things she and I only really have in common, looks-wise, is that we both have red hair (different shades, though) and larger busts.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to find identical dresses that flatter both figures, or how hard it is to find ANYTHING in formal wear in my size? I’m a 5X. It’s not easy. And it’s even harder to do it on a budget.

But SPAMALOT has an amazing turnaround time, and they will make each dress to your measurements. And the quality is actually really good. So is the price.

Let me tell you something. That formal recital dress turned out amazing, and the bridesmaid dresses fit fantastically. They’re actually really well made. The price is reasonable, too. I would recommend this particular company any time.
