View Full Version : February-March 2014: Headband Braids

Obviously, once again we're running a bit behind this month for a hairstyle.

This month's style is:
Headband Braids!
That can be however you want to interpret it -- braids pinned where a headband would go, lace braids over the top of the head, or whatever else you can concoct.

ETA: Aw, heck, this is a fun one. Let's keep going and worry about what styles we haven't done yet in April!

The possibilities. . .

Ooh! :joy: My hair's too wet to braid at the moment, but can't wait to do this!

ETA: Okay, this is going to be slightly harder than I though... or maybe I'm just having an arms&hair won't cooperate day. Does anyone have any tips for lace and french/dutch braiding headbands?

I wore my bangs in a headband braid all the time while growing my pixie!

I wonder if I can still do it???

I did it yesterday, so it's a bit fluffy, but not so fluffy that I feel like redoing it.

lol, I read that it had ate the potato.

I might try this, but my hair needs to be less tangly in order to make it work. It usually doesn't look that great because of my bangs, but I could try something.

Lopsided (actually, I think I'll call it "asymmetrical" and pretend it was intentional) lace braid headband into a braided bun.

Oh my, all that purple...:thud: you have my dream hair and all my envy :p
May I ask how you dye your hair?

Edit: here's my braid! it was an experiment with lace... but I don't like it so much. Maybe a silk robbon would work better!

Braided headbands would look great, especially with your color variation!

Thanks! I just sectioned a chunk hair in front of my ear and made a fishtail braid, wrapped it around my head, and pinned the ends as discreetly as possible. HTH!

Here are my headband braids from yesterday (also done "the easy way" @Robot Ninja ). Sorry the picture doesn't show the braids very well; my boyfriend is the sloppiest photographer ever. haha. Also, sorry for the late submission. How is March 1/3 of the way over already?! Happy Sunday, or whatever day it may be for anyone reading!

This is beautiful! And I love your hair color!!

I'm usually pretty lazy with my hairstyles. I've only attempted a lace headband when I was doing my hair for my wedding. Wonder if I could still do that? Think I'll play around today and see what I come up with. You guys have inspired me! :)

lindsayhv one or two simple english braids pinned where a headband would go, instead of doing a lace braid

I tied the ends of the braids together at the nape of my neck, then stuck a couple of bobby pins in to keep them from slipping. It worked better for me than just using pins.

Thanks, kaydana! I've had this string since the early 70s. Used to braid the beads as shown then let the rest of my hair fall where it may. Alas, the picture didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped but it was fun doing this style again after so many years.

Nice, Madora!

-------
@ Remi: You might be able to wrangle a partial headband (http://www.thesmallthingsblog.com/2011/08/french-braid-tutorial.html) out of your bangs? I lace braided mine frequently when I was growing them out. Keep moving the part closer to your ear as you gain length, and you'll have a full headband in no time!

------

I managed to replicate the old standby, but can't get a picture. Will try to persuade DD to help me with it.

I used to have an article on that before the site crashed. :( There are two possibilities. One is to separate the lower inch/ inch and half of hair, then braid the rest and but in. with that strip of hair, braid dutch braid sideways till all hair used up, and then braid to end, wrap around head and pin.

The easier way is to do a mid height ponytail. Separate 1/4 of hair and braid that. Braid the rest into a second braid. Bun the thicker braid. Wrap the thinner braid around head and pin.

Decorate with whatever pretty pin you like.

Love this look. I'm not the best braider so I usually do a waterfall type braid. Not sure why I find it easier to do....
