And how to do them

I did do a search to see if something like this has already been posted, but I wasn't sure how to word my searches.. tried a few search combinations and didn't see any existing threads so I'm starting one :)

So this thread is for when you're playing around with your hair, or trying an already created style that goes conveniently wrong resulting in something cool :)

I'm not sure if this one exists already, but I was just playing around with my hair, trying to find a simple 'end protective' type style. It's a kind of french braid meets upside down gibson tuck and this is what it looks like:

http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y469/melrowsell/Braidtuckside_zps296038cf.jpg http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y469/melrowsell/7d96d426-2969-4348-bf97-11cc89d79440_zps3630ea8d.jpg

(I have just done quite a heavy oil so excuse the slightly oily look of it, I really didn't expect to like this hairstyle enough to share it)

And this is how I did it:
I started with a French braid at the top front of my head and braided so that it would sit quite close to my scalp, as I started reaching the back (where you might put it into a 'half-up' type style) I gradually made the braid looser so that there was some space in-between my scalp and where the actual braid combines.
I braided all the way (still Frenching it) to the ends of my hair.
I then rolled the braid inwards and tucked it into the space that I'd made earlier and secured it with some wide bobby pins.

Super simple and I think quite elegant if done on not such an oily day
I'm sure somebody, somewhere must have done this before, but I haven't heard of it. So post your accidental hair discoveries here :)

Yep, that was my favourite style when I had APL hair :) Really nice base for forks and other decorative toys.

I'd intended to just lace braid my bangs, but kind of got carried away and kept going!

Wow that's beautiful! I wish I can do something like that, but simple braiding and bunning is pretty much the extent of my hairstyling knowledge. :?

I love when this happens! Here are some of mine:

This is a braid base and end tucked together at the back of my head, kinda high. It's not that stable, but should hold for a few hours. Long enough for dinner! ;)

This is pretty old, so I don't remember much how to make it. I do remember that it was similar to a pony not pulled all the way through. This one will collapse at any moment! Not stable at all, but pretty.

YAY for accidental styles! :cheer:

Mellybee, your hair looks so elegant and picture perfect! I love the slightly "loose" look of the pattern.

Here's one style that began as a wretched mess and was saved by taking it in a new direction:
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w225/07Erzbet/72412SavingaDotriptichjpeg.jpg (http://s177.photobucket.com/user/07Erzbet/media/72412SavingaDotriptichjpeg.jpg.html)

I think it began as a 4 strand braid..or something...but for some reason I didn't braid snugly enough when I began...thus ending up with several inches of unbraided hair..like a huge puff.

So I decided to arrange the puffed hair like a bun, pinned it in place, then took the braided hair and wrapped it around the puff...and made the style look halfway decent.

That's cool. Stalking this thread.
My hair's not long enough for any decent hairstyles yet but I'm sure there'll be loads of accidents!

Here's some sort of weird braided thing that was not what I meant to do at all:

Bagginslover - That looks lovely :) I wish my hair were long enough for nice thick braid buns

Olafwa - I loooove the looped braid one, definitely going to try something like that when my hair is long enough

Madora - Wow! What a fix! Must take some creativity to make something gone wrong look that pretty! Amazing :)

Lirona - your weird braid thingy looks very cool, I think :) I went through the rogue hairstyles thread, I loved it! I'll take pics of any rogue hairstyles of my own and stay posted on that thread for sure
