Ok my hair is either in need of moisture or Protein. I know you can do a series of tests to find out what you need but I'm confused. I don't know if a pic of my hair would help out put I'll post it anyway.

that's a close up of my hair after I washed it

Notice you have hairtyped yourself as 1a. I reckon you are wavier than that. The frizzy ness you have, I get
I would suggest a SMT ( snowy moon moisture treatment) to start and then maybe a light hydrolysed protein treatment if the SMT doesn't work. What is wrong with your hair, in your eyes? Velcro ends, flyaway, static, rough? All this and any light you can throw us will help us out. As by the pics, your hair looks bouncy and shiny but you do have, as I said some frizzies. This could simply be tho that you think you are a straighty but are a wavy.

I agree with Red-Again, think your hair is just a bit wavy.
You definitely don't need a cut at all, unless you want to change your style, of course, but your hair seems just fine, a bit fizzy, but you can easily solve this problem with a SMT.
I also have some benefits on fizzyness if I do a oil leave-in (4-5 hours or more) before I wash my hair, maybe you could try it too!
What's the thing you don't like about your hair?

I just mentioned this in your other thread-- sorry, I didn't see this one 'til after! After seeing photos of your hair, I would definitely type you at 1c at least. Both of the ladies above have already given you good advice regarding your questions, so I'll just add my agreement. :agree: Good luck, and welcome to LHC!

Confused about what exactly? There is information on analysing your hair on the Sciencey Hairblog, or have a microscope analysis from Goosefootprints on Etsy.

When most people say 'moisture' they don't actually mean water at all they mean conditioning. If you are unsure whether you need protein or more conditioning try both together, an intensive conditioner/ mask containing a modest amount of hydrolysed protein. Used in moderation protein IS moisturising, it is a weak humectant (water attracting). You don't have to kick off with a hardcore drying type protein treatment. There are good articles on deep conditioning and protein treatments on the Natural Haven blog and Sciencey Hairblog.

Frizzy hair is almost always hidden wave, sometimes severe damage. It's fairly easy to brush hair right up to 2c out into 'straight' pouf: so many wavies have no idea of their true wave pattern until they are in their thirties or forties.

Out of experience (but this doesn't need to be true for you, though): is your hair damaged because of heat/bleach/dye? When I straightened my hair and had highlights, I used a protein treatment every week for 6 months. My hair LOVED it. When I quit heat and bleach, my hair started hating it. Now I use moisture every week and my hair feels awesome.

Hi Kate! I know what you mean about the strand test to see if hair breaks and needs moisture or if the hair is very very stretchy meaning your hair needs protein. I can't remember if the test is done on dry or wet hair though.

Your hair looks very healthy and shiny to me. Those few strands that sort of stick out could just be dry indoor air!

Sorry I couldn't have been more help.

It seems to fall out pretty easy and I do dislike the frizz.

For what it's worth, I don't think your hair looks very frizzy, it just looks nice :)

I thought that was the opposite? Stretchy = too much moisture

If your hair is falling out at the roots excessively see your family doctor or a dermatologist.

I was thinking about that same thing. Not sure who would be better though

See a dermatologist it you have insurance or can afford it. I try to specify either because in some countries (UK) you will usually be referred to a specialist by the family doctor only if necessary/ complex cases, and in others (US) when I've said "medical diagnosis" it's been assumed I mean a specialist.

That could be tangling due to build up or failure to condition effectively or brittleness, combing overly roughly, its not necessarily simple lack of water. Read the Sciencey Hairblog for hair properties information or have a microscope hair analysis from Goosefootprints on Etsy.
