Am I 1c or 2a?

So I have been blow-drying my hair since I was about 13 years old - seriously! I truly never thought I would ever not blow-dry - I thought my hair was naturally just poofy and unruly. Since finding LHC and deciding that I want to - for the first time - grow my hair really long (at least tailbone anyway), I have given up the blow-drier. So far I have been heat-free for about 5 weeks! :toast:

Anyway, air-drying has been interesting to say the least! I am however quite obsessed with having 'neat' straight hair and so usually comb my hair (with Bodyshop wide-toothed wooden comb) a lot while it is air-drying. So today I thought - LEAVE IT ALONE! I just washed, conditioned and then left it alone with no product except a little argan and camellia oil mixed on my ends.

I had classified myself as a 1c before but now I am wondering if I might not be 2a after all? What do you guys think? Here is a pic - (I moved my cheval mirror outside cause the light in my bedroom sucks!).

Hmmmm...Selkie, when my hair was your length it had a bit of 1c wave to to it and as it grew longer, the length pulls it to 1a. I am not a classification expert, but I wouldn't be surprised if your hair was 2a at BSL and above but will straighten to 1 b or c as it grows longer.

That looks like a 2a to me-- 1c doesn't usually have that much of a defined wave to it, if I remember correctly.

I would also say 2a. I classify myself as a 1c, (mostly straight, but with flipped out ends and some loose S waves) and your hair is much wavier than mine.

I think 1c/2a would be a good classifier.

I'd say 2a, it looks fundamentally wavy rather than straight to me so fits better in 2 than 1. It's a lovely wave pattern!

It has a bit too many waves for a 1c. It looks like a weaker 2a.

I think it's at least 2a. The waves aren't very defined yet, but from what I can see, I think the wavelength (which is sorta how I look at these things) might be more like 2b. If you were to use some more moisturizing products and maybe try some curly girl techniques, I suspect you'll see considerably more wave than this.

Thanks for the responses! :) Well it seems that most posters think it is either 1c/2a or 2a.

I must admit ... hee hee, oops :liar: maybe I wasn't quite, um, totally honest in the OP --- I did do, kind of, just a little finger combing when it was damp. :o

So given that, I guess in my mind I think it is probably 2a.

It's amazing to me because after years of blow-drying and never seeing it air-dried I always classified it as straight hair. Also, maybe with the right products and trying the curly-girl method as Anje mentioned, the waves might become stronger and better defined. Thanks Anje for mentioning this by the way. :)

Off to do a search on 'curly-girl' techniques..... :cool:

Update -- today I washed, conditioned and then put a tiny amount of Giovanni's 2chic Brazilian Keratin & Argan Oil Super Potion on my hair. No finger combing and left to air-dry with some scrunching. As you can see below my hair came out with nicer waves - and were softer and shiner thanks to the Giovanni serum. :)

2a, thanks to wash method and other techniques, you can usually move up or down the classification. I range between 1c (S&C) and 2b (WO), depending.

For me, the difference between 1c and 2a is pretty clear: 1c has partial s patterns, while 2a has complete s pattern/waves.
