View Full Version : I found ONE picture of my pixie cut, and now have a whole story (lots of pictures)

So now I have a complete story, or journal, of my hair growth since the pixie cut of May 2008. Previous to the big chop, I had hair at about MBL (the longest it had ever been in my life). I was excited to find these pics, and wanted to share.

Here they are in order (sorry if the sizes are HUGE, or small, or if the quality is terrible):

June 2007 - a year before the big chop, with my first family cow, Hope. It would be our last picture together, as I sold her that day. I think my hair was between BSL and MBL from this point until the pixie.

July 2008 - two months after the pixie cut -

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/APR08-09064-1.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/APR08-09064-1.jpg.html)

September 2008 - four months since the pixie cut, at this point, I was still undecided on growing my hair long again. Everyone told me I looked younger with the shorter hair, and that it framed my face so well. I was keeping it cut in back, and done in a precision-type cut for a while. It looked sort of edgy and fun.

February 2009 - about nine months since the pixie cut, and about 4.5 months pregnant. I think by this time I had decided to allow it to grow again. I missed my long hair.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/APR08-09138.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/APR08-09138.jpg.html)

June 2009 - one year since the pixie, and about 8 months pregnant here. I kept my bangs pinned back most of the time while the front caught up with the back. The growing of the mullet...

November 2009 - Encouraging the flip-out look with some blow-drying and product

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/16443_1272620059131_5634775_n-1-1.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/16443_1272620059131_5634775_n-1-1.jpg.html)

February 2010 - totally unstyled hair. I only knew how to heat style curls into it, or leave it be. So most of the time, I let it hang because I was too lazy to do anything else. Good thing, because it grew healthier that way!

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/045.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/045.jpg.html)

Late summer/early fall 2010 - Heat styled curls. Hair is about collar bone length to APL here.

June 2011 - Just a few days before getting bangs and layers cut into my hair.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/053.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/053.jpg.html)

And here's the rest...

July 2011 - Just minutes after the bangs and layers. I liked the bangs, but the layers only made it look wispy and thin at the ends. I lost a bit of length, too, as you can see.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/002-4.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/002-4.jpg.html)

Early fall 2012 - Not much growth in the last year, because of scissor-happy stylists. Those darn layers kept getting "touched-up" without me asking for it. Yes, I am pregnant (again) in this pic.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/IMG_20120923_190715.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/IMG_20120923_190715.jpg.html)

May 2013 - about 4-5 weeks postpartum in this pic, and hair is to the bottom of my bra strap.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/013.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/013.jpg.html)

October 28, 2013 - I joined LHC and decided to really learn how to take care of long hair, and get serious about my hair journey. Waves are from a bun.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/001.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/001.jpg.html)

November 27, 2013 - hair is blown dry

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/b5394539-9011-4b94-8e4a-bb667831b87c.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/b5394539-9011-4b94-8e4a-bb667831b87c.jpg.html)

December 24, 2013 - hair is damp-dry, and I asked if I could call it waist. I didn't really grow much for December because I got a trim on December 5th.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/001-7.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/001-7.jpg.html)

January 1, 2014 - My first of monthly length photos in 2014. Waves are from a bun.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/046.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/046.jpg.html)

I've been getting trims every 3-4 months up to this point, but 2014 is a no-trim year for me.

Thanks for following my little story. I wish I had documented my growth better, but there's no time like the present to start. Thus, the monthly length photos for 2014.

Very nice. It was an interesting journey and encouraging to see.
You don't look bad with the short hair but I think you look much more lovely with it long. Happy growing!

Cool! I think you rock all of the different lengths, and the longer hair looks very youthful in my opinion :D Great encouragement for us who are at the shorter stages.

Thank you, everyone. I hope it's encouraging for those who are still at the shorter stages. Even though getting the precision cuts and cutting back the mullet took more time to grow to longer lengths, it really helped me to enjoy it at every stage. I think I look nice with short and with long hair, but I think long hair can be so elegant and beautiful. I also love the variety of updos I can do now. Before the pixie, I never did anything with it. I just let it hang all the time, and didn't even bother to comb it every day sometimes. I also wore a lot of frumpy-looking clothes. I think the frumpy clothes and unkempt hair made me look old, not the fact that it was long. I have a fairly recent picture of my hair from the front. I'm considering growing out the bangs again. Actually, yes, I'm going to grow them out. If I want bangs, I'll get some clip-ins. I have loved the bangs, but 2.5 years later, I'm ready to grow them out again.

Here's that front-view.

I cant believe how rich and beautiful your hair is when long - It didnt look like you had much hair with the pixie cut and i see you looking a LOT younger with longer hair - Also i liked the very last frontal picture because its good to see what waist length hair looks from the front to when normally i only see shots from the back :)

Me, too! I think it looks fine short, but way better long. The only thing that will make it better is MORE of it! ;)

What a lovely journey! Thank you for sharing!

You're welcome!

You look really cute with bangs.

I like the bangs as thick blunt cut (enough to overcome my cowlick right in front) or grown out completely. Long side-swept drive me crazy. I've had fun with my bangs, but days like today when they won't cooperate, I want them grown out.

I feel exactly the same. I don't look like I have much hair when it is short, because it is on the fine side and likes to stick to my head. I was always told as a child that if I cut my hair shorter, it would look like I had more hair. Well, here's proof that it's not true in my case. I, too, like to see what lengths looks like from the front, because waist on me is about two inches above my navel in front.

Your progress is so awesome! You look so beautiful with long hair :) Thank you so much!

I love the long hair best on me, too. I agree that I look younger with longer hair, and I, too, enjoy looking at progress pictures. It's inspiring.

Lyv, it may seem like forever, but you got a long pixie cut, so it won't take as long as some of us. Also, now you are taking care of your hair with the intent of growing it long, so you can avoid all the damaging stuff. Enjoy it along the way. Hair can be fun at any length.

Fantastic photo set. Really covers a wide range, and personally, I think every length looks great on you! I don't have any length pics at all (well, maybe one), and I've been growing it out for almost 3 years, haha. So if I ever make a hair story post, it'll be very boring. ;D

Thank you. I was really just too lazy to heat style all the time, and too poor to afford coloring and chemicals. So, by default, I have fairly healthy hair. Besides, cattle, children, and chickens don't really care how I look. That's good and bad, since I tend to depression anyway... not having a reason to do myself up, never leaving the house/farm... it's not good for me, mentally. Since October, I've been blow drying on cool, just because I can't stand wet hair in the winter time. Last winter I guess it didn't bother me as much, but back then I wasn't wearing my hair up as much as I am now, so it dried faster (since it was down).

I love your hair. It's also funny to see how much you changed through years (in a good way!)

Thank you. I made a big change from 2007 to 2008, just before the pixie. I started to get rid of all my denim jumpers and replace them with more fashionable clothes, and I decided to start wearing makeup and earrings sometimes and styling my hair (though, back then the only thing I knew how to do was heat styled curls). In 2009, after my baby was born, I started exercising. I've pretty much stuck with it, with a few breaks for injuries and major surgery. I think taking care of my appearance has really made the biggest difference in how I have changed over the years. I'm happier, mentally, because of how I'm taking care of my physical self. Since joining LHC, I now have a reason to do my hair in more than 1-2 styles, even if no one in real life ever sees it. I look forward to taking pictures of my hairstyles, length, and new hair toys. This has been good for my mental outlook.

Pre-2008, I had the notion in my mind that in order to be a good Christian woman, I should always wear long denim jumpers (and I was pondering on head covering... still learning and thinking and praying about that one), and not look in the mirror too much, thinking about how I look, or spending too much time on hair, or "wasting" time on makeup or earrings, and in general, being what I thought was vain. I have since learned that I am a much better, happier person, and have more energy for my life work, and for serving others, if I take care of my physical and mental health, and if I take the time to look attractive and well-groomed.

I'm glad you shared your hair story. That would be a great Facebook album. I agree with the others you looked good in short hair but rocked longer hair. Please keep growing with us.

Great hair story/journey!

Is Hope a Dexter? </thread derailment>

Yes, she is! I didn't get enough milk from her to supply my family, but she was an awesome cow. I loved her. She came from a beef herd, so her genetics just weren't there for high milk production. I kept her Belfair daughter (mini-jersey x dexter) for a while, and got more milk, but eventually decided to go with a standard Jersey cow. Semen is easier to come by and a lot cheaper, plus it has progeny statistics so that you can actually improve your breeding as you go. I do love the flavor of Dexter milk compared to Jersey. It's just so much lighter and sweeter. But nothing can beat the thick cream for ice cream and butter and the superb cheesemaking qualities of Jersey milk. So, now I have a Jersey cow named Ruby, and I love her. :)

I'm cool with thread derailments... don't know if anyone else is, but...

It's stupid but since I'm growing my bangs out I don't like bangs on others anymore. They somehow disturb me and I wish: I want to see your whole face too! So, I like you much more without bangs... Don't know why it is so, maybe I project my hair-desires on others... Strange. I have to think about this... because many people look wonderful with bangs, even much better, but on my mind now I want to put them back, away from their foreheads... Crazy.

I'm a bit confused about what bangs are. This is an American term - no? Is it another name for a fringe?

Your hair looks beautiful short or long. Good luck! Thank you!

I dont think your hair ever looked in bad shape really, if that, it always looked and looks silky, soft and so pretty. :happydance:

Glad your bangs are blendin better and you long hair fits you so much!!! Strange, I like the way your hair looks curled too, have you ever curled your hair with your current lenght? Thanks. I have curled it a time or two, but not with heat curls. I haven't found a curler size that I like. I tend to prefer bun waves to actual curls. I will do that sometime and take a photo.

Either way, you are a good looking woman, but with long hair you are beautiful. I LIKE your fringe, it softens your face and gives you prettiness. Thank you. If I ever miss the bangs (yes, fringe) I will get clip-ins.

Beautiful Laura! Such a lovely journey. Thanks!

I loved your bangs! What an amazing hair journey. I think you look much younger with long hair. I liked my bangs, too. Honestly, I wore them for 2.5 years before I decided to grow them out again. And the reason I wanted to grow them out was because I liked some updos better with no bangs (like a crown braid). If I ever miss them too much, there are always clip-ins.

It's a phase that I went through for a time, too, but now that mine are past my chin, I'm much more relaxed about seeing other people's bangs.

Yes. Other name for fringe. American, I think. You know what Bettie Bangs are? :)

Laura, your hair is so pretty and I think long hair suits you better than the pixie (although it looked nice too) It was also nice seeing pics of the cows and horses! And I like your green jumper dress
