So I've decided to change my shampoo/conditioner set (yet again) and switch to completely organic ones with no silicones. I've been using Jason organics Jojoba and it's a pretty decent shampoo, leaves my hair clean, with a typical routine of having the need to wash every second day. I have very fine thin hair, it becomes oily so quick, in summer I usually need to wash every day.

I made a visit to a Natural grocers and remembered to get new shampoo, so I pretty much got whichever came first, but read the ingredients to make sure it was cone free/sulfate free (junk free). And I picked Acure Lemongrass shampoo and conditioner.

I never expected the results I got. When I first washed, I didn't feel much difference, it leathered well, and my hair is always silk and shiny right after the wash, nothing special. But then next day I wake up, and it's still silk and shiny. No grease at all! The day after, a slight amount of grease, hardly noticeable, but still very manageable and "usable" hair, meaning I could go like this to work. Finally only on the forth day I got the oily I head I usually get on the second day. I thought maybe this was just the way it reacted first time. But I tried few more washes and same results. My hair does not get so greasy anymore!:D

While I am crazy about this new routine where I can stretch my washes, I am worrying whether this shampoo is way to harsh and striping off my hair too much, drying my scalp too much? Could it be because it was cone free? This is my first time trying cone free shampoo. What else could it be? Anyone else tried this shampoo? Is having less oily scalp would have adverse effects on my hair?

Thanks!!

It is as likely the first shampoo was irritating or stripping your scalp and causing it to pump out more subum to protect itself. Can you post the ingredients of each product? Do you know the pH?

That's a ton of ingredients so one could only make an educated guess ... But what jumps out is there is a sulphate surfactant in the Jason and not in the Acure. To be fair the betaine is supposed to make sulphates gentler, but some of us are more sensitive than others. Do you happen to have any other skin issues - dermatitis/ eczema, mild allergies, etc? Or in close relatives? If so you may be more likely to react negatively.

It could be the silicone (dimethicone) in the Jason conditioner that makes your hair greasy. I found silicones did the same for me. My hair is naturally dry, and, normally, I can go weeks before it looks greasy, but with silicone-based conditioner, I had to wash every other day to maintain non-greasy hair.

Isn't it wonderful to find a product that makes a difference? I found one, too (but a different brand).

I just started the Acure Moroccan Argan Oil and Stem Cell conditioner and LOVE it. Even the smell is good to me. This post makes me want to go buy the shampoo now. I was trying to use up my Juice Organics POMSmooth first but nope. Off to amazon. :)

Same for me. When I use cones my hair feels greasy in a day.. Without them I could easily go much longer. I produce very little oil naturally even when using sulfates. Cones just give me the greasies, not sure why.

Also ingredient wise, The JASON shampoo has actual cleansing agents in first 5 ingredients where the Acure is Fruit based. When I peruse the WO thread i always notice them sating their scalps start producing much less oil when not using cleansing agents to wash.
