When I first joined here, I had hair at that went about halfway down my neck. I got really excited about growing my hair out and putting cute hair sticks and whatnot in my hair, so I went out and bought a pretty wooden hair stick that has a polished purple rock on the end of it. It's beautiful! It wouldn't stay in my hair though...I tried it at shoulder length but still had stupid layers that made the bun not want to stay. Today I'm about 2 inches from APL. I was going through all my hair stuff and cleaning organizing, and found the stick and tried a french twist. IT'S STAYING In MY HAIR and I have enough ends for them to stick out at the top like a bird LOL How to I get those hidden, or do I just not?? What are some other bun styles I could try??

You could always pin down the stray hairs with a bobby pin going vertically down into the french twist. I would try a cinnamon bun next if I were you as it is so easy :) I only know how to do that and a lazy wrap bun which I think you should also try but idk if it will work with your hair length. I wore a peacock twist for the longest time while growing out from neck length. I hope this helps or that someone else can give better suggestions.

Ohh, I think I could definitely do the peacock twist (hehe, sound like the name of a dance LOL) I think I might be able to pull off a tiny litle cinnamon bun too! Thank you!

I used a hairtstick in October! It felt so GREAT!

You can probably get it in a disk bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y5sSEBy7HQ). (I use a finger, don't stretch the loops, and my thumb.) A lazy wrap bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTt771qkO24) is another possibility, but mine slips unless it's quite dirty! I also used this tute (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHQwLBvwoZE).

Enjoy the Peacock Twist and French Twist. In my experience, those updo styles are easy for certain shorter lengths and not longer. I've tried the versions for long hair and they didn't work for me, bummer, since I really like them.

Getting a hairstick to stay in and hold up a bun is a real accomplishment. Congrats! :)

Congrats! I'd recommend a flipped bun, too. Here's a tutorial. With shoulder-to-APL hair you'll probably wrap your hair around once, and there's no need to rotate the bun to loosen it before flipping. This is one of the few buns that hold for me.
