So my hair is finally long enough for something other than a ponytail!:joy: I absolutely love doing updos and here lately I've been doing what's known as the "Cheater's bun" and I really love it, but only having one updo to do is starting to get boring and I would really like some others to try... Any suggestions?

You could do a Peacock Twist :)

French Twist (this might be similar to a peacock twist)

And that doughnut bun .....someone please help me - is that the name of it? (pulling a ponytail through a form and then spread the tail evenly around the form and pin the ends underneath? It makes a big bun even if your hair is not long.

Doughnut bun or sockbun, if you do it with a sock! =) I find sock better (cut off the toe part of a sock in a colour that matches your hair, roll it up to a doughnut shape and use it the same way) for shorter hair as they're generally smaller, and the shape is a bit more natural =)

The gibson tuck works well on CBL hair: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4EdtIbV-Ag
You could probably also do different kinds of braided updos, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sH1xyT-wrpc It's doable with lace braids/french rope braids as well.

A very quick style is just to make a twist/blob and secure it with a claw clip or a flexi8, that's my standard :P

By the way, I'd love to know how to do the cheater's bun if you'd like to explain? :)

I think this is the same as the cheaters' bun. If you have longer "tail" coming from to loop you just twist it around the base before you put the sticks on. (I hope that made sense.) http://web.archive.org/web/20111221185015/http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=205

You could try tucked french braid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSBAqxQCNKk

There is also headband tuck. http://www.bobbyglam.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/headband-updo.jpg

Editing. I also recommend spin pins. You can do all kinds of things with them and they work fine with CBL(-ish) hair.
