:p
I'm growing out my very short Bettie Bangs and I'm now at the state where I can wear them pinned back.
I usually twist in 3 sections and pin them back. The length of my bangs are just at the middle of my nose. I have done this growout once before, a few years ago but now I just need a change. And this time it seems to be taking forever!

How do you keep motivated?

How do you wear your bangs as they grow out?

(sorry if the thread already exists, I don't have permission to use the search yet)

I will be watching this thread! I am growing out my bangs and they are at the stage of getting in my eyes. I am curious to know what I can do with them as they get longer.

I've been growing my bangs out since May. They're now at my chin, so I can tuck them behind my ears. I basically lived in bobby pins until very recently. Also, those mini plastic claw clips. Sometimes I will still use a bobby pin just to make sure they will stay out of my way, but I can pretty much catch them up in my buns now.
It has been painful, for sure.
You can braid a longer bang section off to the side also for an alternative...I have seen people do that and it looks cute. Other than that, I'm not very creative. ;)
I keep motivated because I tell myself that every day, they are a tiny bit longer than they were yesterday. I have never caved and felt the pressure to go back to bangs.
I will never, ever go back. (ha)

I admire those who do creative things while bangs are growing out. I'm ridiculously pragmatic when it comes to this and I just clip them back or use a hairband or headband as soon as they get too long to leave out. Or I cut them again and the whole grow-out process begins again, ugh! I'm trying to refrain from that.

I see people doing the sideswept thing and it looks nice. A friend of mine wore a curler only on her bangs to sleep while she grew them out to make them look nice during the day.

My hair gets wavy as it gets longer and my bangs are starting to curl up on the ends. The good thing about that is it keeps it from getting in my eyes too much but it looks very silly sometimes! My hair is getting to the "flippy" stage all over!

I do headbands or triangle scarves. Pinning them doesn't seem to work well.

I'm growing out my bangs, too. They're at my chin now. I wear bandanas (head scarves) on the days when the bangs are the most frustrating.

When they were shorter I used to braid them and pin them to the side with a flower pin. Definitely a cute Spring look.

I love growing out bangs! As they grow, they quickly change my overall look. Have fun with it. A tip I often fall back on is to slightly angle them and thin out the ends a bit as they get past the eyes. It makes it easier to wear them down without pinning them as they just sort of naturally fall across the forehead but away from the eyes. A little texture makes it easier for me to pin them back in twists when I feel like it. The ends of the twists get thin and easy to hold with a bobby pin if there's a little texture as opposed to thick, blunt ends.

As other posters have mentioned, scarves, pins, and headbands are friends in the process. I like to do a side part with a bobby near the ear on the small side and one nearly straight back and slightly twisted on the heavy side of the part. It gives an old-school, girly look while being super practical for keeping bangs from falling in my face.

I hope you have fun on your journey. Take advantage of the fact that with each passing week or two your bangs will behave slightly differently and yield new possibilities for styling.

Been there! It took me about a year(?) but I wore a lot of clips and headbands along the way. It'll be worth it the day you can tuck your bangs behind your ears or when they stop falling out of your ponytail :) Good luck!

I've been growing my out since October 31st I had them just at eyebrow and they are now almost at my top lip... I try not to style them, keep them pinned back, work them into my updos in one way or another .. i'm just going to grow them out to face framing layers and go from there.. 1 mini milestone at a time :)

I wore those 3 twists while growing bangs too! I also made "headband" French braids--from ear to ear, or from a deep side part-- with whatever length I had. Lace braids were easier when it was about your length, and I needed some hairspray and pins to make them stay. I also teased them and poufed back in little jaw clips.

Eye-poking bangs are the worst! You'll get past it!

I'm curious to follow this thread because I have lost count of the number of times I've tried growing out my bangs before getting frustrated and chopping them again! :justy: I struggle with styling them as well because they curl weird at the ends the longer they get and there's a bit of thin spot right in the middle just above my widow's peak, which makes things awkward. I also cannot seem to get used to how my face looks without bangs.

I normally use headbands while I am growing out my bangs, but I will also french braid them to the side or do something similar to this (http://manouvellemode.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/triple-twists.png) or this (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OWP1hIrQU9o/T7wADjCyEXI/AAAAAAAAAno/v-r8L5deu9A/s1600/IMG_1673.JPG).
The bridge of the nose might still be a little short to do the second one unless you use hair spray or gel, so when they were that length I would just part them down the middle and twist out to each side instead.

I am also on the seemingly endless journey of growing out my bangs..This (http://pinterest.com/pin/392305817511241589/) post on Pinterest is pretty helpful. :flower:

Thanks, I did the braid the last time I grew my bangs out. But I don't know if I can do it right now.
I have this U shaped bang still, its shorter at the sides and longer in the middle ;)
Hopefully it won't be long. Cute styles.

I spent the last twelve months painfully growing out my bangs, only to cut my grown out bangs into actual eyebrow length bangs again a week before Christmas. I love them. For inspiration, i went on Pinterest. People keep telling me that I look younger, and I can wear my hair up in a twist or bun again...a look I couldn't pull off before with a bare forehead. When I gave up on growing out my bangs, they were chin length, but they were driving me crazy. Plus, my hair lacked any real style and just sorta hung there. Very ordinary looking. I feel like my bangs set me apart, they draw attention to my eyes and bone structure and they allow me to experiment with alot more styles.

Joining the club. Mine are mouth-length and won't quite stay behind my ears. For lack of anything better, most days I've got them pulled back and secured (carefully) with those snap clips. No signs of damage from the clips yet, but I'm watching closely because I know that they have a reputation.

How do I stay motivated? Last year was the only time I've had bangs since I last grew them out when I was 10. I didn't like them on me then and I don't like them on me now, no matter how cute my DH thought it looked.

When mine were in that irritating "too short to go into an updo" phase I used to do dutch lace braids with them a lot, I stole the idea from Elie Saab's 2010 Fall couture show:http://makeupforlife.net/2010/01/paris-fashion-week-ellie-saab-spring-2010-haute-couture.html :)

Every time I just about get up enough nerve to cut bangs, I read a thread of posts like this and chicken out! The thing with me is I have a high forehead that shines like a beacon, and I keep thinking bangs would be an improvement.

So glad to see this comment. I'm 56 years old and I've had bangs almost all my life, except for a brief period of all long hair parted in the middle in the mid-70s. With a widow's peak AND a cowlick in the front, it's just easier to have bangs. And, like you, I can wear my hair up in the back in a twist or bun and not look too "severe" (actual feedback from family and friends).

My bangs are laying just above to just below my eyebrows, depending on how my hair is acting that day. I'm so glad to see there is a thread for the grow-out process. So far, with day 2 or 3 hair, my bangs seem greased up enough that they will mostly go back with the rest of my hair, usually with a teeny bit of hairspray. Maybe a little gross to have sebum holding them back, but whatever works, right? On wash days, I have to pin them back with a decorative bobby pin or with a mini claw clip. Both of those options hurt my head after a while. So, I tried a stretchy headband, and that was doable. I clicked on all the style links in this thread for inspiration. Now I'm off to take a look at all of them.

I remember the other day another reason why I've been hesitant to cut bangs again. See how mine swoop to the left and right here:
http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p43/Darbla/Pic-resized-50percent_zps9a6d9dc3.jpg (http://s125.photobucket.com/user/Darbla/media/Pic-resized-50percent_zps9a6d9dc3.jpg.html)

That's totally unstyled. I remember I did nothing to my hair the morning before that pic was taken; I don't think I even combed it. My point is that I've been saving tons of pics of these nice thick bangs flowing down in a lovely fringe over foreheads, grazing eyebrows gracefully, and then I remembered mine are h-e-el-el to get to do that. Mine want to swoop up around instead of lay in that nice eyes-flattering fringe, and I still have the massive forehead gleaming like a disco ball. Even if I can work and get them to behave, by midday they've started creeping around to end up all swoopy by the end of the day.

When I had bangs, they always parted down the center too. I had to get a really thick blunt bang cut far back near the crown to get them the cover my forehead but I still had to straighten them.

On a related side note - a high forehead was desirable during the renaissance (women even plucked their hairline) so if you want a renaissance look that's a plus :)

I am about 1" away from reaching chin length with my bangs (when wet or stretched ... when curly still at eyebrow). HOWEVER I can fit most of them back into a high bun (my bangs were 2" thick) I only have .5" left out and I would say I can have it all fit in about 1.5". Not even 3 months and they will be out of sight out of mind

Mine are touching my eyelashes now. Definitely in the annoying zone.
