View Full Version : January 2014: Bedhead

A new year, a new style of the month! What are we going to inaugurate 2014 with? I know!

Bedhead

We're all pretty used to trying to get the absolute best shots of our hair and put our best follicular foot forward. People don't always see the other side of that. There are all those other times where we're frazzled with that glorious "just rolled out of bed" look. Those times your hair is not 100% neat, not 100% tidy, possibly going wild, and that's okay!

Show everyone that every day isn't always a good hair day. Have fun!

This is it. Washed/conditioned before bed, pushed above pillow for the night, shook out in the morning. That's all.
Bedhead is often my best hair days.

My "Bedhead" would definitely be a comedic break for you all!
I'm growing out a choppy short cut and it looks absolutely mad in the mornings before brushing! I can't believe I never used to have to even brush and now this ... Hopefully soon, it will grow out and lay nicely even in the mornings upon first waking :D. I miss that. So easy.

My hair this morning after sleeping with a sleepingcap and an english braid. Could have looked much worse! And yes, it's washday xD

I sleep with my hair in a LW bun on the crown of my head, and it looks like this in the morning:

I could kinda sorta wear it down like this, but for the weird bumps at the top that I always get from buns. Any ideas for how to have a smoother bun-base?

Funny, because I just took a bedhead picture a few days ago to show my friend that my hair is not normally straight, just when we were visiting for some reason. Anyway, no "sleep braid waves", no "sleep cap". This is what bedhead looks like in MY world… :D

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a503/natalia_natalia1/14-01-2014-2_zps838a5e23.jpg

In the morning they look like this:

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a503/natalia_natalia1/14-01-2014-3_zps5f46f03e.jpg

And when I take them off, my hair look like this:

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a503/natalia_natalia1/14-01-2014_zpsbed3554a.jpg

Usually I sleep with just a cinnabun in the top of my head, but, I have more nice waves this way :)

I will have to post a pic so you can see what short hair and layers do to bedhead! It's awful. The reason I want to grow my hair long is so I can wake up and have nice bed head and not have to wash and style every day. This thread is reminding me to stop trimming so much

I think bed head is a lot worse on shorter haired people. Above shoulder length, I mean. Personally it's a good job that the 'bewildered hedgehog' style is fashionable these days ;)

Haha ^^! I wish I could always be a bewildered hedgehog. :p

As it is, my hair has gotten to the length where it doesn't really look all that horrible when I sleep (up in a bun or a braid, or loose but coiled).

Here's a photo from about two years ago (my hair is a bit longer now).

Slept in a damp topknot cinnamon bun secured with ravenslair pins, took it out this am, and there it is, still pretty much drenched. My hair soaks up water like a sponge and refuses to let it go.

Personally it's a good job that the 'bewildered hedgehog' style is fashionable these days ;)When I left California 11 years ago, that style was popular. It's still going strong in Wisconsin. They're a little behind here. And "bewildered hedgehog" describes it perfectly.

Some amazingly beautiful morning hair in this thread!

I sleep with my hair in a plait usually, which looks like this when I wake up:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=8765&d=1390154987 (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=11317&attachmentid=8765)
And then like this when I take it out of the plait, but do nothing else. (It is the same morning, I replaced the dressing gown and pyjamas with actual clothes between photos!)

This was my hair this morning, as I had it in two plaits overnight, which seems to be slightly messier.

Love your growth progress pictures! My hemline is in a deep u shape like yours was in October, 2013 and I am debating about evening off the hemline into a blunt straight cut like you did in November, 2013, but I will loose 8 months worth of growth if I do this. :/ But, yours looks lovely! :) Are you glad you trimmed it to an even length? Thanks!

I had a LHC longhair who has become a very dear friend visiting me this last week. We decided to complete the January hairstyle of the month together! I posted in the self-made hairtoys thread that there will be a little guessing game here, so, can anyone tell who my LHC visitor was?? Hint: she is from the USA, and has been around here only a slightly shorter time than I.

I'm guessing it's me you're referring to? :)

If so - I am very glad I trimmed!

Sure, I lost length but in return my hair got thicker and easier to manage, it looks fuller and more together than earlier and I can finally braid without layers sticking out for half of the braid ;). Things got a lot easier with the trim and I would take that choice again anyday (but it was hard to decide and it felt awful to cut off about 4-5 inches in one go). And my updos are easier and not as messy as before, still messy but now it's all due to slipping and not 3 different layers thank goodness..

For January 2014 I measured roughly 25 inches since I've been "tweaking" the hemline a bit since the trim so I've trimmed off most of the growth since then. But as I said, I'm very happy I did it - it feels better to grow now that I have a hemline that I'm happy with and it's easier to deal with than before :) For me I was too impatient to trim off a little bit every month which is an alternative if one does not wish to lose too much length at once :)

My sleep bun was such a mess this morning that I had to share it for this style of the month. I couldn't find my bigger set of pins last night, so I used the small ones. Guess I really did outgrow them!

I love seeing all the morning braids; when I used to braid at night and wake up with it looking awful, I was sure I was doing it wrong. I switched to buns instead, which I still like better, but it's nice validation even if it is a few years later!!

And here's the bun with "after" photo, still damp--per usual in the morning after a day at work.

It's usually in a braid, but I was lazy that night and couldn't be bothered to braid it, so up in a bun it went. That bit sticking up from the top of the bun is my bangs. Mind of their own, those things.
I look like Nori, or like Bofur's hat (Dwarves from The Hobbit).

Spindle, never in my life did I think I would be compared to Kathy Najimy. You're so right, though!

Lapushka, I don't mind them, especially when they're wet & they curl up, but I do wish they would grow!! I've had those 'sideburns,' for lack of a better term, since I was a little bit of a thing.

Oh wow. Big pic. Off to fix that :) I don't post well in the morning either apparently. I'm surprised at how many people sleep with their hair up. It always drove me batty, I flip mine over my (cotton) pillowcase and go to sleep :)

I can't sleep with my hair up either. It drives me crazy. Once I hit hip, though, I couldn't sleep with it loose anymore because I would lay on it and get trapped. Now I sleep with a loose braid. I can easily flip it around to wherever is most comfortable during the night, which keeps me happy :)

Here's my contribution:

Right out of my sleep cap this morning. I normally put my hair in a nautilus bun, but don't secure it before putting my sleep cap on.

Anyone else have the need to brush their hair first thing when you get out of bed? I mean, not first-first, that's go wee, but the second thing is brush my hair! I cannot stand the feeling of it being unbrushed that long, I guess... It just feels... funny or pulls or it is like I can *feel* the tangles! I've even brushed my hair and gone back to bed!

Yes, I feel like that. I leave my sleepcap on while I go to the bathroom, brush my teeth, and wash/moisturize my face so i don't get water and possible face cleaner in it but then I promptly comb it because I hate the feeling of having bedhair.

BUT, I wont detangle it first thing tomorrow because I'll my bedhed picture first :D

I am the same way. So hard not to just rip a brush through it as soon as I wake up! If I sleep in a bun, I can handle it, but not if I sleep with it loose or in a braid

I so don't have that need. More often than not I just bun my sleep braid before heading to work. I'm not a morning person though and am half asleep for the first hour or more that I'm up. I leave the house within about 30 minutes after I get up so...

Here it goes!

Picture of me before I took off the cap after taking my brother to school at 6am (I literally rolled out of bed and got in the car within 3 mins, I am NOT a morning person.) Cap never comes off til after I wash my face. Thought it was amusing, robe under coat and uggs with gym shorts... sexy!
http://i43.tinypic.com/2janmlv.jpg

After taking off the hat (with barely scrunchied loose cinnamon esque bun) turned out particularly neat this morning.

Aww thank you <3 I hoped somebody would get a kick out of it/relate. I love the sleep cap and the mess it saves you but it is definately an amusing look.

It is so hard to get used to having "wavy" hair, before I joined this site I considered my hair curly and was generally described so but after looking on here I agree that I'm a wavy. I Think its just that where I live there are so many people with very sleek straight hair, and my hair poofy/big as well as wavy. Im sure there's others who've been in the same boat... hair type dysmorphia!

Actually, that's the best time to do it, per Dr. George Michael. Something to do with your circulation being at its optimum at that time. I used to do it religiously for decades. Now I have 6 cats that demand breakfast before anything else. My brushing comes later in the day.

This hairstyle is too funny! I always feel like I have "Hermione hair" in the morning. And since I'm not Emma Watson, I can't quite pull it off. :p

I am amazed at how nice some people's hair is when they first wake up. I alway look like I stood in a windtunnel all night. You can tell my braids have been fighting for their life.

I'm never used Photobucket before, so hopefully this will be a picture of my braids this morning.
