By winter proof I mean they stay put after being under hats and hoods all I can think of are updos secured by bobby pins like a crown braid, braided beehive (signature updo) or a oval bun can you inspire me with some more??

Disc bun with a hair fork works great for me. Usually I do updo's which are easy to redo like lazy wrap and pha bun.

I have just got some earmuffs which really aren't as warm as a hat, but I have yet to wear a hat that didn't pull hairs out of my updos as my hair is very fine.

I find most buns can be done low on the nape to accommodate a hat above. Doesn't work with knit hats which pull much lower. I have a knit hat with a bun hole which works frat for that. Calormetries are great too to cover most of the head and accommodate a higher bun.

I imagine a knit hat would fit over a low profile cinnamon bun (mine will squish down enough) or a vortex bun.
