I want both!

I love my long hair but I also really miss the bob I had in my 20s which looked great and really suited my face shape. Ever since growing my hair out I've been trying to find a way to create a sort of bob without losing the length. I've tried jaw-length layers but I just end up tucking them behind my ears so they don't show. I've tried faux bobs but my hair is too long and they fall out after about an hour.

Does anyone have or know of a hairstyle or haircut that frames the face nicely and looks more interesting that just long, straight hair? I've found a few examples on Google but they're always on young, pretty models so it's very difficult to know what they'd look like on me!

Yes. I'd always thought that I had a round face but when I used the face shape thingy it very clearly showed me as having an oblong face. I guess it's because I've lost weight which was nice for my tummy but a shame for my cheeks!

Hehe! I actually do have a few wigs including a black bob exactly like I had when I was younger (I used to die my hair black). But the wig doesn't work very well as I've too much hair to put up inside it so it won't sit properly on my head; it keeps popping up!

This may or may not appeal to you, but what came to mind for me immediately was the hime haircut. (Hime meaning princess in Japanese)

I have wondered about the same thing. When I was younger I use to have my hair in a bob and it was one of the best cuts for my face shape. This youtube came to mind when I saw your post because of the way she has it cut in sort of a bob around her face.

Have you considered a fake bob, where you pretty much pin up your hair to make it LOOK short? There's a lot of tutorials floating around Google, but the basic idea is "Braid and pin or bun the bottom half of your hair to your head, then fold/roll the top half up and pin it as well." It took my sister about fifteen minutes, and it looked great. The only problem is that it's tricky if you have thick hair or slippery hair, due to the need for pins.

You can get lots of layers like from the front, it looks like you have a short bob hair cut but from the back, you actually have long hair.

Yes, I've tried that in the past and the results were really great - for an hour or so before the whole thing came completely undone! It's great for taking a few photos but I can't wear it like all day or to go out in the evening. I think it works best with slightly shorter hair; my hair is down to my hips.

That's a great video! The layers work really well and I think if she wore her hair up, the shorter layers would look like a long bob. I may be able to try something similar but I really like a much shorter, jaw-length bob. Still, it may work :)

Oh wow that's great! Thanks so much! I had never heard of the Hime haircut and after a quick Google I now have lots of ideas. I have to decide if I want to try it myself or trust a hairdresser to do it.

Great video, thank you! I'll definitely try it. I haven't worn my wigs for ages but I may be able to get them out again. Yay!
