Beautiful growth, peeps! Keep it up :joy: Only 4 days until my next lenght shot. My hair seems longer visually and i can see some roots. I hope i'll cover at least half of the new stripe. :)

Wow MsPharaohMoan your hair has grown quite a bit! :o So jealous.

:o Well thank you. The first photo is mid-December. Monthly didn't work for me before so the pics were mostly whenever I thought I had gained some length. Hands in the August pic are kind of lop-sided but are at my hips.

FallingDarkness
August 31st, 2014, 04:19 PM
Wow. You have maybe an inch or two til you're at hip? Hip is my dream length for hair. Maybe tailbone if by then it changes, but right now I know if I can get myself to hip I'll have long hair.
To go from not even bra strap to almost hip in less than a year is absolutely amazing.

FallingDarkness, you have beautiful hair that I'm sure will look all the more stunning once it is at your goal. I think I was just graced with a short torso, heh.

FallingDarkness

Aww you just made my day. Thank you so much! Nobody has ever used the word 'stunning' to describe my hair before. :)

Even still, the growth is impressive.

I wish I knew about this thread before! Maybe I can join the 2015 one! I don't have a photo for every month but Can I still post my pics anyways? This is my growth from Dec 2013 to Aug 2014 :) I no longer own heat tools and I wash my hair with poo bars. I'm so grateful for LHC!

I did my September length photo a day early. I'll be busy tomorrow and I washed my hair today anyway, so it was nice and fresh for the photos.

Here's August's bangs.

Sorry about the clothing change, but I have outgrown the red dress. Pregnancy does that to me! I like the nice stripes on my oversized sweater. Should be very useful in future months to track growth.

ETA: Forgot to add my measurements for this month. August I was 82 cm and now I'm at 83 cm. :)

FallingDarkness

CoveredByLove your hair is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. I am DYING to have curls and wurls like yours. It's so pretty and healthy and thick and long and wow... Can we trade hair? LOL. Anyways, your hair has definitely grown a TON.

Lazy Loop it looks like your has grown some too! The two different pic sizes make it kinda hard to tell though, and the fact that your hair is still decently short so it's hard to see it on your shirt.

LauraLongLocks I love how you have pics for your the growth of your bangs as well! Your hair is so long and pretty and it simply keeps growing. :)

Thank you! I have switched to tracking my growth in centimeters rather than inches and now I feel like it is growing so much faster, just because the increments are smaller.

FallingDarkness

Inches are just too big to see any growth! ;)

FallingDarkness
August 31st, 2014, 09:20 PM
LOL! It's not that they're too big - it's just that you feel disappointed when you grow only half an inch for a month, even though that growth is pretty normal. :P

LauraLongLocks
August 31st, 2014, 09:46 PM
I don't usually grow an entire half inch in a month. I can see little bits of growth easier using centimeters, because I can track even a half centimeter of growth.

Lazy Loop
September 1st, 2014, 12:32 AM
FallingDarkness: Yes, at this length, a striped shirt isn't doing much! I'm thinking it's better to skip a month, to see visual growth. And maybe measure in metric!

LauraLongLocks: Wow, your bangs are growing very fast, it seems!

Love your hair colour in the latest picture, LauraLongLocks. Did you dye it or is it your natural colour? :o *little jelly*

My August/September comparison:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=12201&d=1406902447http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=12774&d=1409571237

My hemline looks different every month as my hair is slightly wavy and stubborn, but I grew more than usual this month (0.5 cm more than usual). :D I'm not a big fan of my hemline. I like it to be more blunt and a much more shallow U, but as I grew my hair out from a pixie and I've barely cut it since then, it's still OK to me. I will make it more blunt with time. :)

Edit: Also, this is the first picture of this project where I chose a picture which didn't use flash.

It's my natural with a little henna enhancement. I did a henna/cassia gloss all over three times this year and a henna gloss ombre on the bottom 6 inches or so. I think the henna is a great compliment to my natural color. It just brings out the red in it. I like the coppery auburn, but don't want it to go burgundy so I am being careful that I don't use henna too often.

My hair is too crazy poofy today for a picture. It wouldn't accurately show my growth, anyways. I couldn't get rid of ANY of the waves, and it just looks like a giant poofball of doom. Soo... IDK. Maybe tomorrow? :/

Nice progress eva888! Love the colour!

Here's my September update. I've used a different camera for the last two pics and couldn't quite get the light right. I think I'm starting to have a seasonal shed - last fall I shed loads >_< Not much enough to really see a difference in thickness, but I've got looads of ear-length whispies now.
Otherwise I'm very happy with my progress so far. I bleached the bottom half to get rid of the last of the red colour in June and I loove the more natural look with no visible demaraction line. My ends are a bit crunchy but I'm due for a trim in September.
Gymnastics training season just started too and I just can't find an updo that stays!

I took an picture of my hair in its natural state so I would have something to compare next month to etc etc and it actually is not too far off from the straightened length! I'm happy :)

Everyone has had such amazing hair growth!!! I feel so inferior. I don't think my hair grew AT ALL this last month. It makes sense, due to the concussion I suffered and the complete lack of food that I ate as a result, but STILL. I have no hope to get to waist by the end of January. Rage.
Here goes nothing - ready or not, giant pictures, BEHOLD!

FallingDarkness
September 2nd, 2014, 10:43 AM
Aw thanks Wosie <3 :D
I had just reached BSL and was so happy LOLz. That was actually what inspired me to join the Monthly Length Photo Project... *shrug* I was barely BSL, and with my natural waves I was still a little ways away from the bottom of the bra strap. However, last wash day I found out that my hair is now past bra strap unstretched too! :) I'm about 2.5 inches away from waist stretched but like 3-4ish away unstretched.

Here's my monthly lenght photo. On the left is last month's pic. I couldn't allign them exactly the same, but you can see that it grew when looking at stripes of my shirt. My hair is still slightly damp in the latest pic.

FallingDarkness, I understand that, big congrats to you. :D The journey between APL and BSL can feel tedious at times... I still have a few months left before I can say I've reached BSL (I'm hoping for late December). I used to think your hair was as long as in your avatar, but it's grown so much since then. O_o

Stray_mind, Your hair grows super fast! Have you measured how much one stripe's width is worth? Looks like at least two centimetres?

Your hair is growing great stray minds, you'll be at BSL in no time!

Stellakatherine, your hair look so beautiful in the latest photo, also you look smaller as well, maybe that's why it seems as though it's not grown?

eta: I think I'll skip this month since I was so late with last months one, it's not likely to have grown very much. And I'm trying to not obsess over the length.

I started September 1st... Im trying a lot of things this month, just trying to jump start my hair growth. Hopefully in the next few months before the new year I can find out what works with my hair and the stay with that during the year of 2015. So I will be back in a month to share how much my hair has grown! Wish we luck!

Thank you :D Hmm.. I guess I have lost few kg since the first photo, which could have resulted in my dress kinda getting a longer skirt effect :D But my hair grows only about 1,5 cm or even less per month. So even in 3 month time not much of noticible growth can be expected ;) But at least I know it is grown as it seems to be harder and harder to keep down even in a braid :)

Ok, I will correct myself, by my usual standards it has grown a lot. I clearly need to go on more holidays so I can grow my hair faster. It is quite angry with me though because I forgot to bring my LOC products.

As mentioned discreetly shamelessly crossposted everywhere, I reached APL this month! woohoooo

Last month vs this month. I'd like to point out that even though my hair is straightened in both pictures, It comes down a bit further when stretched. Currently, when stretched, it nearly reaches APL. Both pictures probably look shorter than they are because I'd had my hair in a ponytail before taking it down for the picture. Last month I measured 16.5 inches and this month I measured 17 inches.

Yep.:agree: the bun in my avatar was my first attempt ever. So it's quite easy. Took me a while though because of all the pinning. I thought about trying it out with braids. Haven't done it yet, but it should work.

She's got some nice tutorials on her site.

Yes, I hadn't seen it before, it's very clear as well so that's cool. I do the same bun almost every day so it would be nice to be able to do more things. Torrin Paige videos are awesome, but when you don't have enough hair to do even a nautilus, it can get a bit demoralising, so it's nice to have other options!

That's exactly the problem that I have. This week I found "Nuvi's bun". It works quite nice for me. You can find it on YouTube with that name. My hair isn't long enough to wind it around the bun (and I use two fingers instead of the whole hand), but I tuck the ends in and keep them there with a u-shaped pin. Holds rock solid.

Yes it was done with that length. And it's a cheating bun. I think the hair looks much longer than it is. Here's the link:

This is brilliant! My hair is not long enough for figure 8 bun, but this should work without a problem :) Thank you for sharing!

You're welcome. I'm glad I could help.

You can't do a figure 8? Your hair is way longer than mine. I tried a figure 8 like two weeks before and I was able to get it kinda decent looking when I put a ponytail holder in my hair and then started twisting it. Might help for you, too

So much beautiful growth, everyone! Congratulations. I'm a little behind, but here goes.

This isn't the best comparison photo with so many inconsistencies (ridiculous shirt, different positioning, etc.), but nonetheless the first photo is from August 5th and the second is from yesterday.

Very pretty hair, summercherie. If you do bleach, you must take very good care of your hair, as it looks nice!

Laura_F, if you want to measure distance to waist, you can just drape a tape measure over your shoulder and take a picture. No need to line up the tape measure. Then just subtract the number at your hair hemline from the number at your waist. I suck at measuring my hair the LHC way, so that's how I measure distance-to-go :) Also, major shine-envy, your hair is pretty.

Laura_F, I'm a big fan of your hair. :D Glossy and such a beautiful hemline. I'll try to get my hemline to look like yours as soon as I've gotten rid of all my layers. :)

Anyhoodles, I read that waist is right between the bottom of one's ribcage and one's hips... I personally always thought that it was where the torso is at its narrowest. Does anybody know which of these two is the true definition of waist?

If it is where I think it is, I'd say your longest strands are about four-five cm away. :) (...Awesome growth, by the way!!)

Thanks so much, wosie! That's way too kind of you. Of course, I love your hair, too, though. :) 4-5 cm seems pretty doable. If I can just get to waist, maybe I'll be satisfied until hip.

Well I have no idea what the problem is with my hair but I can't do many buns. Maybe it's to thick or the problem is in layers. My hair just doesn't cooperate

Hmm. Since you need longer hair to do buns if it's thick that might be the problem. As far as the layers go, they definitely suck when trying buns. I have those myself.

Here's September. Back in 2011 when I started growing my hair out my hope--I won't say goal since I can't really control my growth--was to be at waist by September 2014. I am not really solidly there yet, but I'm thrilled to be this close.

I also took some bare back pictures with a measuring tape around my waist (not going to be posted here). The longest strands touch it but don't cover it. Not too bad.

Thankyou, I'm a bit hard on myself! It just seems the same from a glance but you are right I did gain a stripe! The top of the 5th white stripe is the top of my brastrap. I might reach it in the next month or two hopefully. Each stripe is 1mm less than an inch.

I don't think your ends look bad at all stachelbeere! Don't be sad :flower: your hair always looks very healthy. The ends still look very thick, they just don't look completely even. I seem to remember your hemline making this shape in some of your earlier pics before you trimmed? It looks like your hair grows faster in those two areas. If it really bothers you could trim, but it might be the other hairs catch up a bit and even it out. If it was me I would leave it a bit longer and see what happens. You won't have lost anything by waiting and you can always trim later if the difference becomes more pronounced.

thank you cathair! you're right, I'll just leave it alone - I think I'll trim my ends around december or so when my hair will be at MBL - my ends feel and look relatively healthy, especially since I introduced hydrolized proteins to my routine. And yes, I'm pretty sure this must have been a trimming error from a few years ago. I just wonder how on earth I still haven't been able to correct it? Or maybe those two segments do grow a lot faster; or maybe it's both

Well.... I ussually take growth pictures but i never put them up.. But seeing as to how i have reached a milestone... I will post them up for once..

The first picture is in april... At a bit past hip.. I then chopped to bra strap in may to get rid of layers in one shot.. I cut up to 24 inches. ( i measured.. Three times )

Now i am just on hip at 27 inches.. After the trim.. It was 27.5 but micro trim time.. I am very very happy because this is the length i started with when i first joined here. So its kinda like a tru lhc start because i chopped off soo much hair... Now all my hair is good condition hair..

Also. I believe i have gained a bit of thickness. When i first measured last year my circumference was just on 4" ... I feel a little bit thicker now and i have a lot of new growth.. And i can now incorporate my overgrown bangs into my measirement... I have not measured my ponytail yet.

P.s... The last pick with the green shirt is the today pic... The midle pick is may... The white shirt pic is april.

Marbid - Awesome growth, must be nice to have reached a new milestone. I didn't know you had chopped so much! Ps, I LOVE your bangs and think the world deserves more braid and bun shots from you ;)

I had a sneaky little look at my hair with the measuring shirt on, and whilst wet, I'm at 20"

I'm still going to wait to take a proper photo, as I have been straightening for the length photos, and I'm not wanting to use heat on my hair until December. Plus it will be encouraging to have a nice bit of growth between pictures.

I know it's not October yet, but the middle of the week is not wash day and I will be super busy. Today is wash day and my hair is so nice after it is washed so I thought I would go ahead and add this month's photos. Sorry I did not make a collage so you can see them side-by-side, but all pictures are clickable.

Ok i can finally do this properly. I have made a measuring shirt at last and so have something proper to measure against. Here i am tips measuring 25". Looks like waist on me is between 28" and 29" i think. Will join for the rest of this year and continue next year too

Finally decided to wash my hair after a 9 day shampoo protest. No way I could have gotten that far without my bbb! Hand is showing hip, I'm pretty sure I've made it but I might wait a month to claim. Hard to believe I just claimed waist not too long ago, but then I think of hip to tbl (which is the same as bcl for me). A new abyss to conquer :shudder: Microtrimmed at the beginning of September, hair definitely feels thicker near the ends! Such a great feeling…

Okay. I got a trim this month, and now I feel like my hair is SOO SHORT, and so I'm expecting NEGATIVE growth this month but I'm really really hoping that I grew some...Help me out here I know that my perception is skewed. I'm going to see no growth, but maybe it grew some??? I think my hair is less wavy in my October pic because I attacked it with a BBB...

Anywho, here goes nothing. Sorry in advance for the giant photos.

First September's picture and then October's. I will not cut the somewhat blunt/straight section of hair to the right, as I want to have a pretty much blunt hemline in the future (or at least a very shallow U). I'll just stop at BSL+ and slowly trim the bottom until it's all even.

Ok people,

Here is the painstaking process of growing curly hair! :meditate:

Itīs so dissappointing! And I even took the pic on day two, not the curliest day...You guys have all great growth! Itīs incredible! :guns: I just need to be twice as patient..................

Anyway, I also noticed that I grew some kind of weird "canopy" that was made out of wire-like hair that tapered a lot to one or two hairs, and that it was about 2 inches shorter than the rest of the hair which I tried hard to make one length!

I sure didnīt have that when I started the process, and that wispy growth was frizzy, with dry ends, and white dots, so I decided to part it all up (since it grew mostly from the crown), comb it up, and cut half an inch off of it and I ended up with a few layered curls. Overall the appearence of the hair improved a lot, and they donīt look so bad so I can deal with that.

So.... here are the latest pics!!! :agree:

First of all, you made it to that dress!!!!! :cloud9:

And thanks! I did try the coconut oil for a while for the canopy thing, but I thought that being so wispy and damaged, by cutting them maybe theyīll get a boost to grow because they seemed to stay in the same place and microtrimming was long ways to catch up.

I did give it weeks of thougth though......wasnīt easy.

I'm still like 2 inches away from waist. Grr. I was hoping for waist by the New Year, but that's for sures not happening. But thank you for saying that my hair looks 'so long' now, because I've always felt that when a fellow LHC member tells me that, I must be reaching long-hair territory. :)

And about my waves - it really depends. On occasions I plop, but my profile pic is just my natural air dried waves. Sometimes if I want waves that still look like mine without the pain of 6 hours of wet hair dripping down my back I'll let my hair half air dry then put my hair in two low Dutch style braids, and then take them out and I get a really pretty wave pattern. If there was a pic of mine that you saw in the Monthly Length Photo Project that you really liked I wouldn't be able to tell you how I got that, because I normally try to get my hair as non-wavy as possible for length updates. . . :/

So many amazing hair growth pictures here !!...

I never thought about measurments and pictures before I arrived here. My hair was growing and I took it for granted. I also never had any special goal, except maybe to see how long it could reach. But I never came there^^

When I see all these nice pictures I think it's going to be fun to follow up the process and share about it. Unfortunately I arrive a little late and have only 2 months of growth pictured in a comparable way. Well, there are still 3 month before the end of the year and there is enough time to see some encouraging growth if I trust what I see here ! Congrats for your progresses, LHC folks !!!! It is really motivating !...

OK, here are my progresses since I decided to let my hair grow again. I had cut it to a short bob after a huge loss due to health problems and terrible exhaustion (intestinal severe disorder, food intolerances and anemia), beginning of 2013. I found my poor thin braid too depressing. And after one year of food correction and alimentary complementation, I started to feel better... and my hair grew again... grew so much that I was amazed : I never had such shiny dense hair in all my life !! That's how I came across LHC website and decided to join. :)

From 1st Feb 2014 > 2nd July 2014 (5 months later) > 1st Oct. 2014 (3 months later)

And here are the pictures done since I discovered LHC, meaning one month of growth. I have got 3 cm (a little more than an inch) but due to some quite new curliness (I always was wavy but not curly that much !!), it does not appear really striking^^ :ponder:

SnottyDotty, Welcome to the thread. :)

Laura_F, Your hair is so beautiful, it never ceases to amaze me! :cloud9: Are you sure your ponytail circumference is ~2 inches? Your hair looks quite thick. :agree:

Edit: I forgot to write to t_w too. c:

two_wheels, Your hair is only getting wavier; looking great. My waves also diminish by a lot after I've slept on 'em.
Big congrats on reaching the dress!! Your hair seems to be growing quite quickly, maybe we'll be around the same length soon (then we can share milestones together). :D

Comparing july or even august to now makes me so happy... mostly because those flippin front pieces are finally long enough to stay up when i put them up!

Lastly, I have been taking wet photos too and even those seem ridiculous this month:

Ok I'm growing out severe damage and hair loss from anemia so please excuse the yuckiness. The left pic is from September 14th, and the right is from today. Katyusha, I, too, cannot personally address everyone or I would be stuck at the computer for more hours than I already am! Thank you moontree, LauraLongLocks, Wosie and leilani.

I believe that the reason for this growth improvement is the last chop in August. I have removed major dye damage. My hair is still dyed at the ends but at least there is no more bleach that I had to use to get rid of black dye.

And another reason for my better looking hair is of course this great community. I'm really thankful for all this great information that I get here :flower:

LauraLongLocks I'm following your progress and I'm waiting for the moment you finally get rid of your layers :D I know how much time have you been waiting for this and I believe you're really close now! I have layers too but they don't bother me so much because I don't see much tapper yet.

Thank you Laura_F . I didn't expect so much growth :)

eva888 thank you :) First time that I ever trimmed my hair was couple days before I took August picture. My hair was extremely uneven from my last chop at the hair dresser ( never again ). You can see how she cut my hair on April picture. She took way to much length as I wanted because she thought it was damaged. Later on I just realised it wasn't damaged so much but just dry (that was before I joined LHC). From now on I'm trimming my own hair. At least I can cut as much as I want and if it's uneven it's my fault, so I'm really careful :D

I trim my hair using Feye's method. And I help myself with a creaclip (fake one :P) and of course with scissors only for hair. Here is Feye's method:
http://feyeselftrim.livejournal.com/

XcaliburGirl I watch your curly hair growing process too :) It grew a lot last month!

Wow! How often did you trim to get this much length? You ends are no nice :-)

Trin
October 10th, 2014, 09:56 PM
umm.. well, I'd trim when I got tired of split ends (never really seek and destroyed before here), and I've always had really straight hemlines on my hair, thankfully I take after my mum there. Typically I'd have between 1 and three inches taken off since I rarely went to hair dresser more than twice a year. It was kinda funny, I'd have to argue to get that much taken off... until I showed them the split ends showing up about two inches up my length... which happens to be where my rubber bands were >.> I use parandas now... so that should help there.

Remember, the pictures are five years apart XD so growth always looks impressive when there's that kind of time lapse.

@iYaap Nice monthly growth, and your hair looks so thick!

I love reading through this thread (I'm halfway through now) and seeing everyone's growth - it's incredibly encouraging!
I'll post my length shots in my album/journal for the rest of this year, but I look forward to joining the 2015 version in January.

I have several (lots actually, I love stripes) striped shirts but they're all rather dark and / or short - and since my goal length now is around tailbone, I'd like something that covers at least part of my butt.

Is it really weird that I have a striped dress already sitting in my shopping cart, to use as a measuring dress? :D

It's that time of month for me again, marking 6 months of growth on LHC! This month my hair grew another 2cm like last month, bringing my overall total to 71cm (28"), and MBL. At the end of April I was just past APL, and 10cm (4") shorter, and according to my chart I may be around waist by around February 19. It's summery hot here, now until around June, so I imagine my hair growth won't slow down like it did a few months back, although I may have a bit of a shed coming as I've recently had surgery.

One day early here's November (still haven't found the shirt):

Last trim I tried to make a less deep U, which seems to have worked well but it's also very uneven. I don't mind as the waves generally hide that but it looks a little funny here. I compared with a photo from last August when I started this journey and from that length I seem to be halfways to waist! Does that mean I could be at waist for Cristmas 2015?! :O

Anniversary! :toast:

This is what happens after one year of very dedicated hair care and microtrimming:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=14068&d=1414765243

I decided to post this picture today in honor of the day, instead of the frustrating month-to-month pics that in my case show very minimal growth.

I can say that my hair has thinned out some...itīs been hard to keep the thickness it started with! Iīve also developed some strange layers in the canopy (crown hair) that I had to cut by combing it straight up compact style because it was so messy. The pronounced "U"-cut that I started with in order to even out the bangs has stayed that way and became even more pronounced as bang hairs grow much slower. So, keep on growing hair! :applause Hope to make it to APL sometime soon! :crush:

Yayayayay it's that time of the month again!

My hair is almost at APL now! I can't believe it. It's been growing much faster recently (I think) I started late in the game so here is my comparison from May even though the angle is a little wonky when I took the pic in May.

And here are the months that I've taken pictures all lined up

In the pictures my hair sometimes looks greasy on top but it is actually just that I am growing out my natural hair color so you can see that peaking through. This thread has made growing my hair out so much easier. I love being able to see the difference every month. It works much better for me than measuring!

I love watching everyone else's progress! :cheer: :cheer:

So... My 1000th post. :) I waited with making this post, so that I could have my little party in this thread!

Here is my picture all the way back from January (my first LHC pic ever): http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=8935&d=1390760072

Last month and this month's:

I was hoping I'd reach BSL before the year was over, but now I'm doubtful. I'm still pleased and happy I've gotten this far. :D

Also, to fully celebrate my 1000th's post, here's some Coke and cake for everybody in here! :toast::cake:
