I took my length shot, but I hate my hemline and I'm too depressed about it to post a pic. Also, I measured and it looks like my hair shrunk. I'm doing more curly girl method so I kind of expected it, but still. sigh

Just measured yesterday: 48.5 inches long. My hair is almost finger tip length now. I need to take an updated picture soon. :D

Kina} What is it that you don't like about your hemline? :/

---

I trimmed away about an inch of my hemline a few days ago, so the length itself should've diminished a lil', but the bulk of my hair ought to have increased. ^_^

XcaliburGirl Your hair has grown so so much!! You must be at BSL now? Congrats on your growth!

Welcome to the club MadeiraD - Such a cute dress, love it! Your hair looks great, is it TBL?

It sure is a virus Jennah haha Its so addicting, before i go to cut i get so nervous and hate to lose the length but once i start cutting, its hard to stop because the ends feel and look really good. I noticed that my last big chop was only about 2 months ago ahh i need to hide my scissors. I will try not to cut until i reach hip... actually, no i will just dust the ends... dusting is OK isnt it :p
^_^
It is TBL

It's ragged from mechanical damage. The right side is around waist length, the left is closer to hip. It's frustrating.

Kina, I can totally relate to your feelings. My hemline is getting worse, longer the hair gets, the ends are getting a lot thinner. The layers are a pain to get rid of. I am not thinking of trimming it until summer equinox. I never leave my hair down, as soon as it dries up in a bun it goes. Seeing the ends are really depressing. Hope by the end of this year we both could take off a few inches and then our hair will look so much better with a good hemline :) Keeping fingers crossed for both of us.

Here's my monthly comparison for May. I don't see much growth, probably because of the angle.

http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/9a/3a/6e/9a3a6ed79aaeb561d7429714d1fd9370.jpg

Sorry the second photo is so much bigger than the first. I tried resizing the length comparison photo, but Pinterest was indifferent to my attempts.

Here is this month's length shot, just a few days late. I've included January's picture and last month's picture just for reference. Still getting some pretty good growth (each set of dark and light stripes is one inch). It's getting harder to straighten my hair to get a good shot because it is so thick that it wants to splay and floof out all over the place. I'm now seven months post chop and still haven't gotten it trimmed at all. I'm wanting to to get the layers tidied up and maybe a long fringe re-cut, but I'm not in any big hurry. I've not done a six or seven month progress thread, but I've taken the pictures. So I'll eventually get around to that. I'm so happy to see the great growth everyone is getting. I hope summer will be kind to all of us and give us a good boost in growth.

I'd love to join this! I finally got a horizontal striped shirt that has decently noticeable stripes that are CLOSE together. Unfortunately it is super unflattering, but seeing how it was free and I'm just using it for hair growth pics, that'll be okay.
IDK how to post photos on here though! Gasp! I took my length photo today because it was wash day and my hair was greasy enough to brush out a lot of waves so I can have decently accurate growth pics. That makes sense, right? Oh well. Someone guide me in the ways of posting pics on here so I can get started please!

JessicaAnn} Nice progress! It still looks freshly cut on the longest parts, even though you haven't done so for over half a year. :cheer:

FallingDarkness, do you want to put the pictures in a folder on your LHC profile? If you do, here's what you do:

Go to your profile and click on the link which says "More" next to "Albums", to the left on the page (I hope it looks the same to you, but as I already have pics there it might look different for you). Click on "Create new album". Customize your album to your preferences and then it's time to upload a picture. ^_^
Click on the album you just created and then "upload pictures". A pop-up window should appear. Afterwards you click on "Add files", "Select files", find the pic you're looking for, then "Open" (on the pop-up window). Lastly you click on "Upload files" again and then "Done". :)

FallingDarkness, once you've followed Wosie's instructions to put pictures into your LHC album, if you want to post them onto a thread you just copy the BB Code on the right under the image and paste it into your post. If you want to upload them to some other photo sharing site instead of using your LHC album that works too, you just need to copy the BB code or the URL for the image (depending on the site) and paste that. I suggest you head over the test board and try it out once you've got some pictures uploaded, there are a lot of other similar posts there that might help too!

Okay. Here goes nothing. The picture might be REALLY large or something, but we'll figure out how to fix that later.
I'm officially BSL (stretched) and those aren't my most natural waves because I braided, bunned, and brushed my hair until it was almost not wavy anymore.
Sorry about the ugly color variation. :/ My hair was REALLY greasy.

Alright, folks. Only 10 days left in this month and then it's photo and measure day for me again. I'm really, really hoping for 32 inches (or more, if the hair gods smiled on me this month, hey I'll take all I can get) this time around.

There sure have been a lot of trims and cuts on the forum lately. I've been doing several S&D sessions on mine, and so far, I'm finding fewer and fewer splits. My hair feels nice and the ends are soft and supple thanks to the nightly coconut oil and shea butter. It really has done wonders on my ends. No plans to cut right now. I'm super interested to see how long I can grow this year without any trims. :)

My quote function doesn't work either. Neither does clicking on "go to last unread" and whenever I post, it redirects me to a different page saying I'm trying to edit a header (still posts though)? I think there's some site-wide glitches.

Congrats ashke50! That a big milestone, you must be really pleased :flower:

I think the site is having problems with one of it's main scripts. There is a support thread about it here:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=123188

That's why view first post, quoting, editing and causing problems. I am going to hazard a guess and say that's why the rich text features have been removed from the reply boxes too, while this problem is being fixed.

I finally got round to taking this months pictures today, but I will save posting them until the website is feeling a bit better! Measuring tape says I haven't grown anything or have made lost a tiny bit. I kind of expected that since I have had three major S&D sessions this month.

I saw the support thread about the problems we all seem to be having. I'm just glad it's not me alone having trouble with it.

Cathair, I thought S&D helped us preserve our length while trimming splits. I guess anytime you have to cut for splits, there is going to be a loss of some sort. Most of mine are in my face-framing layers and one last hemline layer, which is 1-2" above my actual hemline. Can't wait to grow that out and cut it off. I'm just too much in love with every little bit of new growth so I don't want to do a hemline trim just yet. I'm in the no-trim challenge for 2014, and I am very curious to see how much growth I get in a year without any trims. I think 2015 is going to be a year where I microtrim half my growth. In fact, I'm thinking that's going to be my plan until my bangs reach my hemline, which is a long time from now.

I think a combination of things could lead me to lose length from S&D. My hair is very tapered, it basically grows in a rough V shape, and I measure the very tip of this V. Most of the splits are near the ends, so if I take a good number of them off, there are probably a long coming off the longest point. It probably wouldn't make much difference to measurements if my hair was more straight across. I'm not really sure if I have lost of not, I guess I should get round to lining up my pictures and re-measuring! The website is looking healthier today.

I find face framing bits of hair are quite prone to splits too, you're not alone there. I think it has been making a difference to mine keeping my hair up though, I am finding less than I was when I started. How much growth have you had so far without trimming this year? Did you start that in January? I am wondering if you are nearly at the middle point of the year now?

Microtrimming half your growth next year sounds like a good plan. I am still wondering if I can be that brave. I think once you know how much your hair grows in a year with no trimming, you can feel more confident about doing that too, as you should know roughly how much you can trim to do that before you start.

I suppose I should go and line this months pictures up, that's feeling like a lot of effort right now :/

Looks shorter stretched this month, but longer un-stretched I think? *shrugs*

Measuring tape photos here, but I couldn't line them up properly. Didn't notice how wrinkled the tape measure was:

Un-stretched:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11206&d=1401225970

Stretched:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11204&d=1401225776

It's starting to reach a point where I feel like it looks and feels relatively long, despite the S&D, especially when I look at myself sideways. I've had it in a ponytail a couple of times and in half ups. That was quite satisfying because it looked about as long as I thought it always should when I used to wear those kinds of styles. Albeit not thick. I was at the bus station and realised I had the longest hair there, which was nice. I am sure the other people there were not probably aiming for long hair and probably wouldn't want my hair! But it was still nice. I have been enjoying my hair this month :)

Cathair, your hair looks like it has grown quite a bit to me, stretched or unstretched.

My last trim was December 5th, so I have passed my mid-year already. I am going to wait until January to do my next trim. Yes, I'm thinking once I know my growth for a year without trims, I'll have a better idea of how I want to proceed. I'll not only know my growth rate, but I'll also know the condition of my hair without trimming and will know how well I can tolerate the no-trim plan.

cathair, I love the way your hair looks, esp this month's pic. Stretched or un-stretched you are at TBL length. Congrats!

Thanks duchess67, you've made me smile :flower: My goal for May next year is for my hair to look truly tailbone length. If it's starting to look that way now, that's ace.

I think really it's just scraping tailbone stretched and as a couple of inches to go un-stretched. I've tried the sitting down test when my hair was wet and scrunched. I think your had is supposed to touch the chair if it is really tailbone. It's about a half inch off stretched and something like 2.5 - 3 inches off un-stretched. I'd post the pictures but they are not safe for work cause I'd just got out of the shower lol.

Btw, in your avatar pic, what are you wearing in your hair? Looks kind of interesting.

Someone very kindly made me a set of four hair moons for my birthday :) I was experimenting with using more than one at a time, my avatar pic is using three at once. I like the way shape can be changed by stacking them up. There are pics of using the moons in different ways in my album here:

Perhaps after all my worrying about S&D it wasn't as bad as I thought?

Nice going on getting past the middle point already :cheer: I guess it will be interesting to see if you get the same growth rate all through the year too, or whether you get more one end of the year than the other. That's another thing that probably couldn't be measured if you were trimming.

I hadn't been paying too much attention to the sides, I see what you mean though! The left side does look more visible in the last picture. Aww, thanks for the nice words :flower: I didn't bothered finger combing it for this picture, maybe I should stop it? I feel like it looks thinner if I don't separate that, but looking at the pics maybe that is not entirely true :/

The dress can stay for a bit longer :) Although I am sooo glad I don't have to take any pictures from the front or wear it out. I have bought a couple of other dresses and that's made me decide that dress is not the most flattering on me LOL :D A cheeky summer growth spurt would be fantastic! I will keep my fingers crossed that we both get one of those. Looking forward to seeing your next pics :)

Congrats on all the good, healthy-looking growth pics everyone!

I joined the forum a month ago and measured at 61cm/24". Today I'm at 63.5cm/25", so that's an inch longer. I had a growth spurt early in the month, then my hair mellowed out a bit. It probably expected the coolness of winter (well, as much winter as the subtropics gets) to start biting, but we've had unseasonably warm weather lately.

And I've also gained some curls that like to kick on up the ends... (The second pic was taken 2 days ago, which was the 4 week mark.)

Had to do this a day early because tomorrow promises to be insane.

The first collage is some action shots I got this month trying to get my length photo.
The second collage is a comparison from January to June on top, and on bottom it's a comparison from May to June.
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/Bestbirth/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/Juneactionshotcollage.jpg (http://s21.photobucket.com/user/Bestbirth/media/Hair%20Gallery/Hair%20length%20shots/Juneactionshotcollage.jpg.html)

In my length shot this month, and every time I peeked at my length the last week or so I keep seeing that my left side is growing at a faster rate than my right and that the middle seems to be on the thin side. It's like it's growing in an inverted V shape. It almost looks like someone took thinning shears to the middle of my hem. I am thinking of microtrimming. It will bother me if the difference is any more pronounced than it is now. My growth, or lack thereof, this month was a measly 1/4th inch again. I am at 31.5" So this is my growth journal since I started keeping track:

September 28th - 28.5"
October 27th - 29.25"
November 27th - 30"
December 5th - trimmed .5" (or so I thought)
January 1st - inconsistent measurement of 29.5" to 30"
February 1st - consistent measurement of 30"
March 1st - a dismal 30.25"
April 1st - 31"
May 1st - 31.25" (only a quarter inch? Really?)
Jun 1st - 31.5" (Again, only a quarter inch?) ... measurement actually taken a day early, but that's close enough

Crazy! Not sure about the microtrimming. What do you think? I hate to lose any length at all when my growth has been so dismal lately.

I don't know why the measuring tape is being so mean :( don't let the horrible thing grind you down! Your hair looks considerably longer between May and Junes picture :) Looks like more than 0.25 inches of growth. In May your hair i just edging over the line on your dress, in June it is well past :)

So in 9 months (discounting September, because that's when the measurements start) you got around 3 inches growth? If you average that out, it's a third of an inch a month, which is only very slightly under average and not so dismal. If you are measuring on the conservative side, even just a little bit that could account for the missing 0.17 inches a month. It's very hard to measure something as changeable as hair to such a small increment of an inch.

No idea about microtrimming, that's very personal. But for what it's worth I think your hair looks fine without, definitely longer than last month and fantastically shiny :)

I measured the length difference on my dress and from my January picture to my June picture, it looks more like 3.0" to 3.5" so WHY the heck does the measurement from hairline to hemline look like crap?

LauraLongLocks I think growth is seasonal. Mine certainly is! Maybe wait til you've seen a whole year? Hope it speeds up for you :blossom:

Here is my month's progress. I'm happy with it. I haven't dyed my hair or changed my bathroom lightbulb, this is just the joys of tawny hair and a capricious camera. This month I've been experimenting with ways to get more moisture into my hair (and therefore more defined waves) and it seems to be working :D

I'm sorry the tape measure is being so mean! Looking strictly at the May-June photos, I can definitely see growth - it seems like more than a quarter inch. Maybe skip the tape for a month or two and just do visual checks? That's interesting about your hair racing ahead on the left side; my racers are on the left side, too.

This month's length shot looks amazing and shiny, so if you can stand it, go for it and keep the length! There's about a two inch difference between my left and right side - visual evidence (http://i.imgur.com/ahJNKwg.png) - and fresh curls hide it pretty well, so if you're planning to wear it down some heatless curls would probably hide the unevenness quite nicely. :)

Thanks Trappercreek and Remi. I really appreciate the feedback. Mine is shorter when pulled around front, too, Trappercreek. So its not just my imagination. Not sure what I want to do yet.

My options, as I see it are:

1. Do nothing.
2. Microtrim half my growth every month so I am making length gains (but the stinking thing is, when you only grow .25" it's really hard to take off only 1/8th an inch). My concern with only microtrimming is that I will never catch up to my splits in my layer faster than they will split.
3. Continue S&D and microtrim as well, in hopes that I will eventually cut out my last layer which is the location of all my splits. Continuing with the S&D would be an attempt to prevent the splits in my layer above from traveling up faster than I can microtrim them out.
4. Continue S&D only and watch my hemline go to crap. Keep my hair up an out of the way so I don't have to look at it (not a problem for me, but disheartening when I take my progress photos with my hair down).
5. Chop off 2" and say bye-bye to my last layer forever. Fresh ends instantly would be really nice, and I would have zero splits. The only thing is I know I would miss the length, and with my slow growth rate, it may take me a long time to regain those inches.

Can anyone think of any other pros or cons? Want to talk me into or out of any of those options?

LauraLongLocks: As for your options, I´d go either for choping it off all at the same time, or keep on doing S&D and microtrimming as well. This means you don´t lose much lenght, and can keep it as healthy as possible at the same time. You could also do microtrimming once every two months maybe, then it would be easier to chop off maybe? It all depends on how much it bothers you ofcourse... your hair looks very healthy to me! At the same time I would say that it´s important to try and get rid of the splits at your last layer. I´m also thinking about my options for cutting splits/layers at the moment. Alhough I think that it would be the easiest to cut it all off till the first layer, I don´t want to lose that much lenght, yet:P So in the meantime I will continue microtrimming and doing S&D and also let a hairdresser cut a little bit off my layers so I can continue with a bit healthier layers.

Good luck with deciding! I´d say that if you´re not sure yet, just put it up and forget about it;)

I'd say just chop the two inches and that way you can just switch to S&D and by Christmastime you'll have all the length back and it'll all be thick at the hemline and healthy!

I think what you have done is link to the page in your album, rather than the image itself. So if you were linking to your page for that photo in your album, your link would have been correct, leaving album.php in there rather than changing it to picture.php. Images always use attachment.php and the URLs are longer. They always end in d= and a very long number.

If you want to put the image into a post, then you either need to copy the BB Code from underneath your photo and paste it in here. Or you can right click on the image, click on 'copy image location' and then paste that in between IMG tags, like you did with the link to your album.

I think this was the picture you were trying to add?

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=9783&d=1394898183

Hope that makes some sense!

I'd go with what makes you happy. What makes you enjoy your hair--today. Now. It's a journey, not a destination. Is it length that means the most to you, or neatness, or health, or...? If you re-read your responses, you'll probably find the answer in there. Your hair looks beautiful, and, to me, has had steady, healthy growth.

It's practically the only striped shirt i have and i'm glad i haven't thrown it away, wich is why i can take such pictures :)

Bahahaha! *grin* Really old? I'm wearing stuff from the late 90s (it's now back in fashion--and jeans do last for years!).

Here is my month's progress. I'm happy with it. I haven't dyed my hair or changed my bathroom lightbulb, this is just the joys of tawny hair and a capricious camera. This month I've been experimenting with ways to get more moisture into my hair (and therefore more defined waves) and it seems to be working :D
http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb359/wheels_two/20140601a_zpsc0efa2de.jpg

Mine does the same chameleon thing! Yay for tawny hair..! I'm loving your waves--the moisture brings out a similar pattern to what mine usually does (mine is curling more now as I'm also adding moisture... Haha!). Actually, I found my curls ringed out more when I shampoo'd only, as in my monthly pic. I can see good growth with yours, too, even with your new wavies. :D

Okay, I decided. I trimmed half a centimeter tonight. When I was finished I measured my hair again and it was the same, so I guess I didn't cut off too much. I'm going to take a half centimeter every month and do S&D as needed, until I get that layer cut out of my hair and catch up with my splits. I hate that blasted layer and my splits, but I love my length! This seems like a good compromise. I've never had less than a half centimeter in a month, so I won't be gradually getting shorter by only taking half a cm each time. That was a worry of mine with the microtrimming. I did Feye's blunt, but with my chin to my chest. I am hoping that will eventually give me a bit of an undercut and if it results in a very soft U that would be okay, too. Note to self: use the ribbon hair ties next time. I lost about 7 or 8 hairs to that nasty elastic band.

Crystawni, I know! (i have not cut it) But I think my head is tipped slightly in the May1st shot and more "level" in the May31st shot

I could try to take another one. But I think the latest one is more accurate? I have had a hard time taking my pic this way. I always think I'm going to use my tripod next time but I haven't done it yet.

Can I put weights on my hair to make it grow faster??? lol

A day late to upload. There is hardly any noticeable difference in my hair. I hate the tapered look. Plan to take off an inch on June 21, summer solstice.

Washed my hair today, so the waves have eaten up the length a bit. My hair looks pathetic  I'm pretty sure once all the layers are gone, it won't look this bad. But for that it is going to take a long long time :(

If it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't have bothered to take monthly progress pictures. In my case I wonder whether it's a good thing or bad thing, since seeing my hair pics makes me feel kind of depressed. Not complaining at all. I embrace what I have, and I thank God for giving me this hair.

Your curls look much more defined in the June pic- as you say, that's probably affecting it a lot. I think if you have curl it's better to compare 3 or even 6 months apart, otherwise the monthly growth is confounded by the daily variation due to shrinkage. Do you have any pics from that long ago? It looks soft and pretty and not pathetic to me :blossom:

Ok so this is my first post on monthly length photo project. In april I had quite a big trim because my hair was still damaged from previous year when I went from black to brown. My last photo was taken today, my hair is not as damaged as it seems but it is quite dry because I did clarifying treatment yesterday. I'm happy to see some progress :) And I can see some waves forming in last picture, I went cone and SLS free yay :cheer:

Wosie and duchess67 thank you for compliments :) I lined up my photos in photoshop. I'm web designer so that isn't really a problem for me. Duchess67 if you want I can do it for you I don't mind ;)

I'm quite surprised that my hair is growing that fast. I started making this photos before I even joined LHC because I had feeling that the length is the same all the time. Well it was because I had to trim 15cm (6 inches) over one year period. And I hope I got almost all damage out of that frying over one year ago.

I did a heavy S&D about 2 months ago, it really has thinned out my ends, though it does look so much healthier, less frizzy, but after taking the pic today I am serious thinking about doing a little trim, just an inch or something.
But it has grown a lot, must be the summer months growth spurt kicking off. :)

Last month I didn't do a picture or measure. I had been getting a little more hair obsessed than I liked so I took a break from all of that and ignored my hair, and it honestly made me feel a lot better about my hair. I did do my picture for this month but I don't think I'm going to measure anymore. Also a side note I totally lost my regular hair photo shirt so I had to find a different one haha.

My pic for the month one day early. It has been a little wavier lately, so it doesn't look like I've gained much this month, but I know it's grown. I also did a Jan/June comparison since this would be the halfway mark for the year. Hair is growing, lol even if it doesn't look much like it is, and I am content.

My hair literally did not grow at all this month. Since last month I have been measuring my hair when wet, and I haven't even grown a 1/4 inch since last month. What the hell? :headache: How is this even possible? The only thing I have changed this month is that I have been exercising more and eating better. But I thought that was supposed to help hair grow more ...

Here is a picture of May length shot and then June (on the right). The textures are obviously different but this is the best I could get.

June 6th, 2014, 02:21 AM
Arwenlily, Don't despair--your hair looks much wavier/curlier in the new picture. :) ...But it still looks longer to me!
Do you measure your hair without stretching it?

duchess67, ^ I'm also very curious about how it went with the CG method. :3

duchess67
June 6th, 2014, 03:43 AM
My first experiment with CG method - I shampooed and used conditioner on the lengths. While it was soaking wet applied a lot of leave-in. Tried to plop using a towel (didn't quite get the hang of it) After a few minutes removed the towel and air dried my hair. It did look more curlier, and hair was too slippery due to all the conditioner I used. Tried not to finger comb which is what I usually do out of the shower.

Later in the afternoon I had my hair up in a bun, when I took it down at night my hair looked kind of nice. That's when I really thought it looked nice, not after my hair dried. It was too short though, hardly BSL length, curls ate away all the length:D I am going to try this method for a few more washes and see how it goes.

Thank you both.

This is my June photo - I missed May obviously. I think I did take a photo but I can't find it, and I trimmed a bit on May 1st so maybe I thought there would be no difference.
My hair has gotten a bit lighter from the first real summer days, mostly in the front. I trimmed my own hair, so it's quite uneven and I still have some splits :/ But there's some difference in length! I wish it was longer in the front though.

duchess67 don't be shy post some pictures :D We are all curious here. Well unfortunetly there is no way around about hair getting shorter. As a curly girl you only have two options: a) beautiful curls that makes hair appear little shorter b) fluffy hair that look longer. You deicide I would go with a) :D But hey I'm not a curly girl so I should probably keep my mouth shut:run:

It did look more curlier, and hair was too slippery due to all the conditioner I used. Tried not to finger comb which is what I usually do out of the shower.

Later in the afternoon I had my hair up in a bun, when I took it down at night my hair looked kind of nice. That's when I really thought it looked nice, not after my hair dried. It was too short though, hardly BSL length, curls ate away all the length:D I am going to try this method for a few more washes and see how it goes.

Thank you both.

Yup, my hair shrinks to bra strap length from ~hip(ish, ragged hemline) I prefer my hair curly since it's thin and fine, curly gives me WAY more volume so I stick with it. Only problem is that the curlier it gets, the less length I have to work with so my "go-to" styles don't work. Can barely get it into a nautilus or a lwb and its too long to do a proper peacock twist.

You'll figure out how you like to wear it and what texture you're comfortable with. That's the beauty of being wurly/curly, options! :)

Katyusha, sorry I didn't take a picture yesterday, should have taken last night when it looked nice. This morning it is back to square one again :( When it starts looking good, I'll be proud to show it off. Now my hair is back to its normal glory (pathetic look) :(

duchess67 don't be shy post some pictures :D We are all curious here.

Your hair is not pathetic Duchess--stop saying that! I also wish you had taken pictures. It does eat up length but then so does bunning.:) you get more styling options. I have been at it for 10 years and I am still learning--different produts, water softness/hardness, type of haircut, weather, so many things can affect it--you can experiment endlessly. :)

Wosie and Fericera Yes, it does look longer in the second picture and it is curlier but the measuring tape tells me otherwise :( I measure my hair when wet now because that seemed to make more sense because it will be more consistent.
duchess67 Thank you so much. I have been working on leaving my hair curly for the first couple no wash days.

I've been forgetting the pictures for the last two months!! But here is the picture from yesterday: my hair is greasy and has braid waves though so sorry about that. There is a bit of shrinkage in the photo due to the waves, it's now 73 cms long (28,7 inches) and a little bit past waist :)

I want to share what Katyusha did for me, the effort she put in to line up all the photos perfectly, even though all were of different sizes. She did an amazing job :magic: am so grateful for her kindness in offering me her help :flower: Though I wish my hair was half as nice as her job :(

Going to try curly girl method from next wash and see how it goes. I was under the wrong impression that curly girl method are for very curly hair and not for my kind of curls :hmm: interesting observation by my friends. Thank you :blossom:

I haven't had the time to post the last couple of months due to busy schedule, but now I have some spare time so why not post an update too.

So glad to see everyone's progress :)

I decided to take my monthly pics with damp hair (so please excuse the messiness) from now on because I measured my growth to be 1 cm per month and my tapering waves don't show it at all. I was beginning to feel so frustrated.
On the last pic (end of May) I did my regular 2-month micro trim. So happy to finally see that my hair is longer in May than it was in March, slowly getting really close to BSL.

Hey guys, I will try catch up with all of you but first here are my monthly shots. Not much growth really, my hair is hibernating now that its winter so it has slowed right down in growth :( So much for making it to hip anytime soon and also my hemline wont behave, even tho i left my hair down after i washed it so that it sits straight, I had to nap with my toddler for a couple of hours during the day and I left my hair down but it still formed a weird wave to one side somehow making it a bit uneven - my hair seem to have shrunk a bit as well which is WEIRD!!! and frustrating to!!!! Anyhow, my hair is now 31 inches which is exciting and im slowly creeping on to the next milestone of 32 inches :) You wont see much growth in these pics but I will post them anyway... EDIT: seriously how could I forget that I had a huge last trim last month omg!!!! Ive actually been trimming a lot since I got to waist because I needed to cut off dry brittle ends and correct my hemline. No more trimming for a while now tho :)

Tini seeing the first set of pics I believe that your hair in June seems to be at least the same length with May if not a little longer! I also see that comparing June to May in the second set, the distance of the camera is definitely larger, thus creating the illusion of shrinking between the two! Even if your hair is taking a break from all this growth, I believe your are doing great :)

Tini I actually do see some growth in the picture with the stripes; maybe the other two without the shirt are slightly misaligned?

Here are mine, a bit belated. My hair was a bit damp because I was taking a shower not long before. And I started to use flash because the pictures turn out nicer when the interior is not well lit.

about that drawn skirt in January... I found it would be cool and creative to draw different skirts each month UNTIL my boyfriend said that it looked like I wasn't wearing anything underneath and I was trying to mask that... well, let's just say that I discontinued drawing on skirts after that.

Goose. Yep, trimming does make a difference! :p Your hair is looking lush, btw! As for winter hair, mine is having a bit of a nap now that the cold is finally biting. We only get about a month of coolness here, though, so I'm hoping it's a fleeting hibernation. I was getting such a burst of growth last month, but it was so unseasonably HOT (mid-summer-hot)!

Yay for SBL, stachelbeere! Looks like a great lot of growth this month! BeccaAngel, beautiful hair! (It sits so much like mine at that length.)

The first half, even the first 2/3rds of the month seem to flow right by. Then I'm just waiting to measure and take my length shot again. Eleven days to go. I really hope to see 32" at last. I have been stuck for so long at 31" or 31.25".

Nothing spectacular to see here. It hasn't been a full month since my last picture, because I took last months late after my computer hard disk disaster. So not expecting any growth, but I wanted to get back to measuring on the 16th though, to keep in with the earlier pictures.

Was very tired, didn't wash or comb hair. I knew if I tried to detangle it first I wouldn't have the energy to take the pictures. Just about managed detangle after then passed out for the night. Regret that a little. Hair looks even shorter than usual, because it's tangley and just come out of a bun, so pictures were almost pointless xD lesson learnt for next time.

I am hoping to hit dry-hair collarbone lenght by next month. :)

(Which I haven't reached yet because my hair is shorter in the front, I guess, because now that I look at the picture I think my collarbones should be around that height, but if I pull the longer bits to the front it's still a cm or so)

I took this pic a few days ago but I didn't have time to crop the two pix so it's easier to see a difference. When I have three or four more pix I'll do a collage in Photoshop. I had a family crisis so I didn't get my one month mark exactly. The second pic turned out better because my shirt was positioned straight! My tape measuring is always off but I think I gained about an inch in those 40 days.

Measuring day for me yesterday! This month I grew 1 inch (on the longest strands) to 43 inches. I took my normal photo and measurement and then trimmed about half an inch off.

I've included the photo from before the trim in the comparison shot. My hair still looks the same length in the pictures, since it decided to curl at the ends, but I know it has grown anyway. I'm planning to trim a small amount every month so that I thicken up my ends a little while still growing out - now that I have got to classic I am in less of a rush to grow.

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11471&d=1403559497 (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=11558&attachmentid=11471)

So I completely spaced on taking pictures this month and it's so close to time to take the next set I think I might wait. Or who knows, I might get a wild hair and go ahead and do them tonight, never telling with me. But until next time this pic will just have to do. I can assure my hair is growing like a weed and I couldn't be happier. I'm still toying with the idea of getting about 1/2 taken off the bottom and getting the layers tidied up. I also need to make a decision about bangs soon. I like to keep some sort of fringe because I wear my hair in a pony a lot, but I never know how I want to get them cut. Anyway, see you all next month!

JessicaAnn if I can add my opinions on your bangs, I'd say go for a side bangs with a face framing layers. I have a round face shape like you and blunt fringe doesn't suit me at all. And I think side bangs would really draw attention to your eyes, because currently you are showing to much forehead. Don't get me wrong your forehead is perfectly fine, I just think you could draw more attention to your eyes :)

LauraLongLocks
June 24th, 2014, 07:38 PM
I say no to the bangs. Just wear clip-ins when you want bangs. Then you don't have to have them when you don't want them, and there's no grow-out.

Johannah
June 25th, 2014, 01:16 PM
JessicaAnn, I would not cut blunt bangs since you have a round face shape, and these bangs make you look more rounder (this is why I have blunt bangs, because I have an oval face shape). I think side swept bangs would look good on you, though. You could try clip-in bangs before you actually cut, because growing them out is painful ;)

And here's the actual length shot.

Measurement was 82 cm or 32 inches. And then I trimmed 5mm. Measured again and it is at 81 cm, so apparently, my trying to even up my trim caused it to get shorter than I intended, but the ends feel really nice. I think I'll go 2-3 months before my next microtrim.

I would have taken another pic of it after the trim, but it was hardly noticeable, so I didn't. That's right. I still sometimes use the TT, but I am going back to my wide-tooth bone comb most of the time. I think the TT might be "scraping" over tangles and possibly causing damage or broken hairs. The wide-tooth comb comes to a tangle and you stop, work it out gently from the bottom and then go on.

It seems to take a lot of effort to get it to lay nice and be smoothed out when doing my photos. Haha, yup! I've only been doing this since I joined in April. :) Great to see everyone's growth (and trims)!

Falling Darkness, I resize my pics in Paint (or you could use Photoshop) before I upload them. You can also resize them via online storage before posting them to the thread.

This month I went from 63.5cm (25") to 65cm (25 5/8"), which was a tad slower compared to growth of a full inch last month. I think my hair has decided it's too cold to come out this winter, so is hibernating in my skull.

Pic is April 61cm, May 63.5cm, June 65cm, with the current pic taken after bun waves were misted out (and curlies were eaten by bun).

I was going to measure my hair once per month just to see the rate on which it possibly growing... I measured last time on 30th of may, or better to say my husband helped me to measure it and it was 88,5 cm ( just under 35 inches) , well I measured my hair today all alone at it was 97,5 cm (38,4 inches). Eather my hair had some dramatic growth in one month ( I really doubt that ) or men are not reliable in measuring ( which I believe to be closer to the truth ). Anyway, this makes me sad... I was so expecting and curious to see if anything happend and if did then how much :)

Also does that mean I have to resize my first photo as well? And then the one I take tomorrow?

Um what is online storage?
Also does that mean I have to resize my first photo as well? And then the one I take tomorrow?

Here is what I do:
- get the photo onto my computer (sd card reader)
- open in in GIMP (free, powerful image editing software)
- crop & resize to height of 350 pixels or so
- export as jpg
- upload to photobucket (this is the online storage)
- copy the 'Direct' link and enclose it in then when posting here

It sounds complex but takes less than a minute once you have the keyboard shortcuts down! :)

For monthly length shots, I'm a newbie but I open them together and try to get myself the same size in both shots. You could do this by aligning the top of your head in both shots, and also getting your shoulder width about the same. I have a stripey dress so I just resize until the stripes align.

Hope that is helpful rather than massively patronising...

Lovely growth Crystawni and Katyusha!

Heavy Raindrops, I see more waves in your last pic, maybe that's why? Hope you get a lovely surprise next month.

Doing July shot today because husband is out tonight but in tomorrow night, and I don't want him to laugh at me crashing around with elaborate camera scaffolding in the bathroom.

This month's photo hair colour has reverted to ginger. It's a lovely colour, but that is not what my hair colour looks like in real life  I wonder what colour it will be next month? Anyway, I think the sides have caught up a bit, but still 2 stripes to go until APL.

In happier news, it turns out that LOC was the solution to all of my wavyproblems :luke:

I just stopped heat styling it. Honestly I've been doing random things! I've definitely been wearing it up more. I tried the inversion thing but I hated it and stopped after 3 days. I just started taking a hair vitamin last week. I must be having beginners luck! I will measure on July 7 to see my actual growth in inches.

Hey Katyusha sorry to hear that you suffer of hypothyriod yourself, but i guess you have a good doctor that helped you find out the perfect medication. It seems that i always have a bit trouble around the summer month with my thyriod and that my body is very sensitive of hormone fluctuation. I started to train a lot more since last year so my body need mor synthetic hormones to balance. the shedding startet a month ago to get worse. In good month i only shed about 50 hairs on washing days but I'm sensitiv about the subject so i keep an eye on it.

Around August i hope to be back on my perfekt level again so that the shedding will stop :-)

As you can see, my hands are on my hip-bones in both pics, my thumbs are resting on the waistband of my pants, which sit at hip (all my pants sit at hip).

I have not had a cut/trim since August 2013, which was a big chop back to BSL to get rid of the very last of my damaged, non-virgin, hair. I am planning on a 1/2" trim in mid-August (after a vacation to Mexico). If my growth rate continues, I should be at solidly at hip by my mid-September birthday! Yeah!

Do you think I should find a different shirt then?

two_wheels
July 2nd, 2014, 05:39 PM
FallingDarkness, I think that the clothing is ok, but that you could get a better picture by standing with your back facing the mirror, and holding the phone in the same position (dead against your shoulder) but with the hand on the same side, rather than the opposite side, so you're not twisted. I use a hand mirror to check the picture in the phone, but you don't have to, it should just work.

That said, you can see that in the second picture your hair is a longer rectangle than in the first, so it must have grown, and a good amount at that- congratulations :)

It is always tricky with waves though. One month seems amazing, the next... where did the hair go?

FallingDarkness
July 2nd, 2014, 06:19 PM
OOH now that is a good idea. :D I'll definitely give it a go next month. Thanks for your advice!
I was doing everything right last month - eating a lot of protein, exercising, scalp massages, deep conditioning treatment with coconut oil once a week, and always having my hair up - so I'm glad that it paid off! :D
Waves are definitely hard to deal with for length shots. I try to keep my waves consistent by braiding my hair so that instead of my natural, length-eating waves I get something easier to keep track of, and more accurate. My hair feels sooooo much shorter when I just let it air dry. :/

There's no visible difference, or in truth it looks shorter in the July photo compared to June. Guess I'll have to wait another month to see results.

The image is more covered in July than it was in June, by about a half inch or so. I'm surprised you don't see it. You are getting some awesome growth, Askan!

Yes, we are half way to 2015, so predictions on how long we will be at the end of the year should be easier to make now. Let's see, I started the year at 30" and I'm now 31.5" because I trimmed a centimeter. So, I guess I can expect to be at 34 inches by the end of the year if I don't have anymore trims. Four inches a year is slow, but my shed rate is low, and it is looking nice, so I guess I will learn to be happy with my growth rate.

Oh my! everyone has such amazing growth and awesome looking hair. After seeing all these gorgeous head of hair it is depressing to see mine.

However, since I am committed to this, I might as well. Katyusha was kind enough and helped me with the pictures, as always she did a wonderful job. Can't thank her enough.

The longer it gets, my hair is kind of getting scraggly at the ends. I don't feel like trimming it yet. Had planned on taking an inch off on summer solstice, but changed my mind. One of my friends here advised not to. I'm glad I listened to her. Since I put it up always, I don't care how the ends look. Thinking of trimming it on December solstice next.

My hair is not freshly washed when I took this month's progress picture. It was oiled too.

wow Duchess67, what nice growth you've had!

Does hair typically stall in the summer? Interesting.

i've been shedding like mad now that it's actually warm and sunny out, but oh well.

I haven't been posting on this thread because of being disappointed in my hemline and not wanting to show my hair down. I've been flipping my head over and rinsing it upside down in the shower, to get more root volume. As I did so the other day, I, for reasons I don't fully know (don't judge me! :D) wound up with my hair plastered against the shower wall and pointing the hand held shower head at it. At my last trim, er, sometime in 2013, don't remember exactly. Anywho, I had a u shaped hemline. I noticed that my ends were still as cut, and wound up checking the whole thing against the wall including the side of my hair that appears, well, chewed is the only word I have to describe it when dry. It's also as it was when cut.

I dunno, but maybe the differences in length have to do with either the way I stand (I have a couple of herniated disks in my lower lumbar and I haven't been working out the way that I should to keep that area supple) or there is damage to the top layer of hair?

Either way, it made me feel MUCH better about my hemline. It's no where near as bad as the last pictures have led me to believe. I haven't posted last month's shot, or taken this month's, but I'm feeling more inspired to do so :)

I've been keeping up with other people's posts:

redtuss and straymind, I think you both are standing differently in your photos? If you were to use some external markers to help you to ensure that are standing the same, e.g. I grasp my elbows to make sure that my shoulders are rolled down and back, and I have marked where I stand to ensure that the distance is the same month to month. Either way, even with a stall, it's summer! :happydance:

Arwenlilly, you're hair is beautiful and soooo shiny!

Johannah! You've almost covered the little figure in your t-shirt! Yay!

FallingDarkness, your hair is lovely, but I agree that the twisting is going to impact how your hair falls in the photo.

lulanna, I hope you find a resolution. My sister has hyperthyroidism as well. She also has some hair loss. Her hair remains lovely and I'm sure your does as well.

Kina, you've addressed each one of us separately, how sweet of you! My hair seems to be growing more during summer. I love your hair, so please post pictures. I too am shedding a lot of hair.

It's redtuss who is having a stall. She has gorgeous thick luscious locks!

Arwenlilly, your hair is beautiful as always, and has also gaining length in spite of being curly.

lauramuurr, I totally feel your disappointment. My hair too when it gets curly it tends to eat the length. Your hair is gorgeous!

Stray_mind, see the difference from Jan till this month, there's quite a lot of growth there. Congrats!

Johannah, I couldn't find this month's progress picture. After reading Kina's post realized you must have, scrolled back a few pages, didn't find. Maybe I should log back in after a while ;)

I can't wait to take pictures for the next couple of months. I'm maintaining at 31" to thicken up the hemline and with pictures I can see what a difference it makes. :)

Duchess, I love how your hair looks when oiled -it's beautiful! :) And also thank you
And Kina, yeah, I was a bit angled in the last photo, holding on to elbows was a good idea, I will try that :)
strachelbeere; yeah, growing out some henna :) The clash between cold and warm has been bothering me for a while, I might try and get a veggie dye done to even out the red when I have the time to try a new hairdresser (ecofriendly one)
Laura and Arwenlily, I love your curls.. Just love em! Growing along beautifully!

Kina thank you so much for the compliments :) I'm sure your ends aren't as bad as you think they are. I always think my ends are horrible as well and think about trimming them off often. But then I think about how sad that would be and I change my mind ... I'd love to see a length shot of your gorgeous hair :)
duchess67 Thank you! You hair is growing so nicely and is very beautiful.
redtuss aww thanks :) I love your hair, it always looks so silky and lovely.

Crystawini, great progress!

Crystawni that is amazing growth!

Crystawni, Your hair looks as wonderful as ever. :3 Even though you have waves, one can still clearly see hair growth between all your monthly pictures!

:flower: Thank you, you lot! :D

I'm loving your "behaving" waves, two_wheels, and the colour variations make me giggle. It really looks gingery, though, hey. I vote white for your next one... Or purple! Yeah, purple! :p Whaaaa? :wigtongue

I'm inspired by everyone's pics on here (I take them all in, even if I don't comment on them). Even with the same old same old, or little to no growth, or trims, or shedding, or a burst of growth, everyone keeps plodding along! Onwards to MOAR HAIRZ. :cheese: (And dancing cheese. We all need a bit of dancing cheese every now and then, yeah?)

Doesn't look like it's grown at all in the last month. I blame the photo, though, since it's taken from a slightly different perspective than the last one.

I tried that... to be honest, it only turns the henna into a dark brown which for me wasn't ideal either (pics are in my LHC album). I think the only way is to embrace the contrast or just cut the hair :(

I'm a bit meh about this month... This the second month with inconsistent measurements; the tape seems to think to it only grew 0.25", maybe a full 0.5". It feels longer than that but there's so many variables that it's hard to tell if my hair is going :wigtongue or really only grew a 1/4 inch.

two_wheels, your hair has grown so much from May till July. Congrats!

noteve, you must be pretty pleased with your hair, amazing growth! Now it is past shoulder length :)

TrapperCreekD, I know that feeling. We know our hair has grown, but tape measure doesn't show much. I do see a lot of growth, looks like your hair is past hip. It must be very long when stretched :) Your hair is beautiful!

My very late length shot. April to July.

I didn't straighten this month, only wrapped it straight whilst drying. Oh, and I had a little trim this month to get a u hemline.

Thank you two_wheels. You are very kind :D The increase in length is because my hair wasn't washed, making it less curly.
