DH picked up the above box from the local market. I am unsure if it is BAQ, because I have never bought this brand before. I have never seen this brand either. I can't read the language on the box either. So I am unsure if this is BAQ henna. This is his second time returning the wrong henna. I'd like to know if this is the right henna before sending him back again to get yet another box of henna.

Thank YOU!

BAQ is pretty much a catch-all term meaning that henna has a really fine sift, is only henna, and has good dye content. I'm not familiar with that brand, but you can always open it up and give it a smell. Every compound henna I've seen has had a very non-herbal smell to it. Also you can mix a bit up and see what it looks like. Henna compounds will have a chemical smell and often instantly turn a color other than green, rather than changing color over several hours due to dye release.

This (http://www.hennaforhair.com/science/whatsinit.html)might be worth a read, too.

It has Arabic writing on the box and it is written "Sankahar" brown henna... Hope that helps.. I will google that brand name and let you know if I find more results.

sorry for the glare. It was hard to capture.

Thank You.

I added only water and it released a lot of dye immediately. I have never had that happen before. It smells kind of weird, but I have not used henna in about 2 months. It could all just be in my head, tbh.

The word "Henna" is often used for any kind of hairdye in those countries. There might be actual henna contained in it, but most probably not. The immediate dye release in your case indicates that there are alot of helper chemicals for a fast dye release. Also the size and decoration of the package. I dont read these packages, but I have had alot of trial and errors. In those kind of shops you will much more likely find actual henna powder in a linen or cotton sac, not in a box. Any sac that smells henna is more reliable than those type of boxes. Tell your DH that and also warn him about that indigo may be called henna as well, and may be sold in linen sacs :-) It is easy to detect the difference though, the powder may be alittle greener and smell like peas. The henna smells, well, like henna.

Thank You. I had a feeling it was not real henna. I usually buy the body art quality henna, Jamila but I sent him instead. It released far too fast and I had a gut feeling not to put it on my head.

I cannot read it ..it is very blurry and the writing is upside down. On the first pic you posted it said brown mehendi so it is either no good or it contains indigo. That is why I wanted to read the ingredients for you.

Thank You. I ended up tossing it. It smelled weird and it made me nervous. The lady said she will have my brand in on Monday.
TY for your help

You are very welcome:) and I think you did the right thing by getting rid of it...when in doubt, do without.. Have a good night:cloud9:

Well, this is obviously a bit too late for the OP, if she binned it, but just for general interest, and for anyone else's benefit - that henna seems to have be this one called "Singhar brown henna" http://www.mabruukstore.com/si1109.html
Unfortunately I couldn't find ingredients anywhere. The "brown" makes one think there's some indigo at least, if nothing else, besides henna... Someone on ebay was selling it as "pure henna", but I doubt it :)
