View Full Version : Two Months of Growth After Big Chop

Today is two months since my big chop in October where I cut off just over a foot of hair. I kind of hated my hair after the chop. It was 3-4 inches shorter than I thought it was going to be (got talked into cutting off more than I wanted by a friend who went with me to the salon) and the stylist ignored my request for just a couple of long, blended layers and blunt cut some short choppy layers into my thick/wavy hair. I went to another stylist (who is now the only one allowed to touch my hair) a few weeks after the chop to get the layers blended a little and the top de-bulked so it laid a little better. I thought these pictures might be helpful for anyone else growing out layers, or a bad cut in general. I was pretty upset and depressed for weeks after my cut and am just now starting to be OK with my hair as it is. These first three pictures are from the day of the cut. Sorry if they're a little big, I'm not sure how to resize them.

I'm sitting back on the counter and slouching in this one so my hemline looks longer than it actually was at the time.

These pictures are from a month of growth. I'm lucky that my hair seems to grow pretty fast and at the shorter length a little bit of growth makes a big difference. These pictures are a little better as I had already been lurking on the forum at this point and had a better idea of what I was doing.

And then here are the pictures from today after two months of growth. A big development is that in the last week or so I've finally been able to get it back in a pony-tail without any additional clips to hold the layers back. As someone who lives in pony-tails this has been a HUGE boost to my mood and self esteem. There are a couple of little bits around my ears that still fall out, but I'm OK with those for now as I know they'll be long enough to pull back soon. All in all I think the growth is coming along pretty well. Of course there are still days that I miss my super long hair, but I just have to keep reminding myself that it will grow back eventually and I don't need hair down to my waist to have long hair.

This shot shows how far down the fringe has grown in two months.

I took this one with the ends flipped out.

Thanks all. I have to run to a meeting, but when I get back I'll try to round up a couple of pics of my hair before the chop so you can see what it looks like quite a bit longer (and what I'm trying to get back to).

It's actually not a bad cut to grow out, IMMHO. You'll be APL before you know it! :)

Here are a few pre-chop pics. I don't know if I have any proper length pictures as I didn't realize how much I was going to miss my length until it was gone. When my hair was brushed down my back it was about an inch past my waist when I got it cut. So that gives you an idea of the length and these pics should give you an idea of how thick it is (it was all one thickness pretty much all the way down). These were mostly taken for the purpose of sassing it up with my BFF who lives across the country now, so they are a little goofy. There are a few more over in my albums if anyone cares to look. Of course I'm missing my hair so I'm obsessed with looking at old pictures of it.

This one was after a wedding, I had wrapped my hair up in a bun for the last bit of the reception so its a little swirly from that. I miss the blonette coloring I got from wearing it down all summer in the sun. It seems to stay a little more red at shorter lengths and then start to mouse out when it gets about BSL.

Here is my ponytail. My favorite way to wear my hair.

This is my texture after fingercombing and air drying overnight.

And here is the texture when I pass out face first into the pillow with sopping wet hair so the wave pattern doesn't get touched before it is dry.

Thanks! BF helps me measure (bless him) and helped me make a shirt with different lines on it for APL, BSL, etc.. If his measurements and the marks on the shirt are correct I've got just a little over an inch to APL when my hair is straight. It likes to wave up, especially at the ends, so it will need to grow a little more than that to look APL. I'm just so happy to be able to see it growing and changing on almost a weekly basis.

Wow, you have gorgeous hair! I love the texture of it. And you look really good with long hair... maybe I'm biased, but please don't let yourself get talked into such a short cut ever again!! (Unless, of course, you want to.) At least it's growing so fast! I wish my hair grew that fast.

I am only at a half inch barely for for this 30 day period. i cant believe how much yours grew in 2 months. The first pic bangs are at your eyes, and the 3rd down at cheeks!

Thank you so much! I thought I was ready for the change with my hair, but now I miss having long hair something terrible. But I did got to donate the hair I cut off, which I realize is kind of a touchy subject for some people here, but I really wanted to do it once. If I can get to BSL or pretty close to it by summer I'll be really happy. That's been my favorite length with my hair. It is long enough to do stuff with and weigh itself down some, but not so big and long that I can't keep it under control.

I'm not sure how long I'll grow it, past my waist was fun, but just a lot of hair (my hair is super thick). I can say for certain I never care to have it anywhere near this short again, I think BSL is going to be the shortest from now on. But thank you again, everyone, for the encouragement. Everyone around me thought I was crazy when I got so upset after getting my hair cut. Its nice to have people who understand.

Awh I did a big chop like that to, my hair grew from shoulder length to BSL in 1 year and a half, looks like yours could get there faster... Takecare.
