I always try to find new updos and braids for shortish hair. I've tried French fishtail braid a few times but never liked the results. I decided to try it tonight and it looks a bit different but I really like it. It's a bit messy but sometimes messy is nice I will try it tomorrow with hair that has been better combed and also tighter. I will give you instructions, hope at least someone will understand:D

1. Separate your top hair into two sections. (My sections were quite small)
2. Cross the right strand over the left or vice versa. It doesn't really matter
3. Hold pieces with one hand and with other hand grab a tiny piece of your hair from your left side of the face . Fold that tiny piece OVER the left section and UNDER the right section
4. Grab tiny piece of hair on the right side. Fold it over the right and under the left
5. Keep going.
6. After finishing top of your hair, start using bigger sections
7. Finish your braid. Secure with a ponytail holder, a barrette.. what ever you want.
8. Enjoy your braid ;)http://i39.tinypic.com/2yuadkk.jpg

I love the French fishtail! Here's mine (http://www.flickr.com/photos/inamourada_flux/8613811756/) that I did around half a year ago. I like your shorter version of it :D

Faellen : I really like yours. Yours is so neat. My fishtail braid always looks a bit messy.. because of all my layers!

I like the effect your layers give though :D and I like how it starts from the very top. Mine came out with a bit too many loose "loops". And it twisted round at the bottom where I had to bring it round to braid over my shoulder. :( My arms hurt otherwise!

I like to start from the bottom because it gives me more hair to work with :D Those loose loops are annoying, I get them too. And it's horrible when your arms start hurting while braiding :(

wow, it looks really really nice! did it stay in long?
at your length I could never get my fishtail braid to stay, it would always fall apart immediately :(

faellen - it looks amazing... I wish mine looks like this when I get to your length!

I felt like sharing mine as well! Here is the link (http://i1299.photobucket.com/albums/ag76/stachelbeere/Photoon2013-09-02at11013_zpsa75e106f.jpg)

Wow, yours is so pretty! And your hair has amazing shine :)
I actually did it again, I did it a bit tighter now and it has stayed well for a few hours :)
Thank you!

Thank you <3

I found that a fishtail braid (or any braid really) looks great with pre-curled hair. The curls can be far from perfect (headband curls that didn't come out right for example, like in the braid I posted) but any curly-wavy texture makes the braid bigger and the hair becomes more 'cooperative' somehow :)

I have to try it with curls somewhere in the future :) My hair is stick straight but it curls easily :)
