how long to see progress after a big shed?

I always measure my ponytail a bit above my ears, not at the nape. For three years or so I was shedding high. Now the last eight months, thank God, I've been shedding more normal 80 or less per day, as opposed to 150+, but still after eight months, my ponytail measures the same. Does it take longer to see results and I need more patience, or what?? I was hoping to see a change.
