I am a complete minimalist. I have no knick knacks in my house. I very rarely wear makeup. My hair is product free - no hairspray, gel, mousse, pomades ( I do oil before shampoo tho). I don't wear heels, don't dress up, don't wear jewelry, don't buy fancy things, I don't even wear contacts ...yet I color my hair and have layers which is super high maintenance for me. You would think by my lifestyle I wouldn't color and would be fuss free. I really just don't like my natural color on me so I am willing to upkeep in a salon every 2 months as well as cut/style hair.
I was just wondering out of curiosity if there are any more low fuss appearance people who do actually color? I find color is the one thing I can do to dress myself up and look nice.

I'm low fuss in everything but my hair and nails. I color every 4-6 weeks and I love hair toys and my nails are always polished, but otherwise I'm very low maintenance

I color occasionally, always with a temporary formula. Last time was Aug 3, and that copper is still hanging in there. It's o.k., though. It's faded enough that I don't have a clear line of color demarcation.

I color with Henna and Indigo to cover my greys and to give my hair a warmer tone.

Hahaha I didn't realize how high maintenance I was until I read this! Aside from the contacts and using a bunch of hair products, I do everything you listed! :P I actually just stopped coloring my hair about 2 months ago. It'd been dark brown/black for years, and I'm only growing it out so that I can go blonde! Hair makes the biggest difference to your appearance (in my opinion). It's the best accessory! :)

I am pretty super-minimalist too, except I do wear contacts, since I see far better with RGP's than with glasses.
I consider my coloring as more of a side effect of the henna I use to strengthen my hair. I do really love what the red has done to my medium brown, as well as the improved condition of my hair too.

Maybe you pick what you want to be minimalist with? I do wear heels when I'm dressed up, do dress up, definitely wear jewelry,do wear contacts. On the other hand, I rarely makeup if ever, don't do my nails and do not color my hair. ON the other hand, I do like my natural color, maybe that's the difference.

I'm pretty minimal when it comes to makeup and wearing formal clothes, but I LOVE henna and the way it makes my greys fiery red against my dark brown hair. It's fun and has also improved the condition of my hair. I do it for me, have never much cared what others think of my appearance.

I'm medium maintenance. But, I dye because my natural color is God awful on me. I do not look healthy in the least as a dark blonde. Add in medication causing banding, never mind looking like a skunk, I look like a zebra.

I color my hair because I was meant to be a redhead. I can not picture myself without it. I have an odd skin tone/complexion. Its really pale but with warm almost olive undertones so my natural medium to dark ashy brown just doesn't mix. I don't know how to explain it but it almost drains my face of color and makes me look even paler.
The maintenance part is complicated. Everyone thinks I'm high maintenance but I think I'm more of a low medium person. I mean here I am sitting at work in sweats and a thermal, my really dirty hair in a messy bun, and a bit a concealer on my dark circles and fresh pimples. They get the idea that I'm high maintenance because I put oils and crap in my hair and have a lot of makeup and nice clothes that I wear maybe once or twice a week. In a pinch I get ready in 10 minutes flat but because I like to dress up when I have time I'm so 'high maintenance'. My boyfriend is the worst because he wants me to dress nice but thinks I take too long and care too much. "Pick a side!"

I don't see a correlation between living a minimalist and low maintenace life and not coloring you hair at all! Like chen bao said, maybe you (we) just pick what we're going to be minimalist about.
I hate knicknaks, hate pictures in frames being displayed, hate any clutter *whatsover* (if I lived on my own my house would look like a meditation centre / yoga studio probably! But I have a somewhat messy husband, alas)
I think of myself as low maintenance in my dress and appearance as I only wear lipstick occasionally and mascara for special occasions. I like to dress up when the occasion requires it (a music performance, for example) but it only takes me like 5 minutes so fancy clothes does not mean high maintenance to me.
I color my hair for one reason and one reason only--I hate going grey!

I'm high-maintenance, when the mood strikes me. I do dress-up, nails, makeup, but purely for fun, not because it's something I MUST do everyday, otherwise I'd be ashamed to walk out of the house. It never became a routine for me. I can go weeks and months bare-faced and in jeans/t-shirt uniform. I'm kinda proud of it. I think it's very limiting having to stick to self-inflicted (or worse yet, dictated by society) standards of proper grooming. I know some people who don't even like makeup, for example, but feel like they have to use it, otherwise they'd be judged on their looks. I find it sad. I know how it feels though, because for the longest time I felt self-conscious going out with even slightly greasy-looking hair (got over that).
Oops, I really got carried away here! Back to the subject!
I color hair with henna, because I use henna as a treatment, and coloring grays is a bonus. If there were no natural way for me to color gray hair, I wouldn't bother with chemical dyes.

I wear makeup daily, contacts in the winter, gel or curling product most days, and heeled boots when not working. I'm low maintenance.
My hair is completely virgin right now since I was growing out heat damage but next spring I plan on dying my hair some sort of blackish purple. Mostly because I want to and I can.

I don't know if I'm high maintenance or not... I mean I wear makeup everyday (acne scars :sad ) and dress pretty nice when I'm out of the house which doesn't take anymore time than wearing regular clothes really lol but I don't do my nails or style my hair but I've been coloring it for 10 years. I started because I hated my natural which was darker on top and blonde on the length but now I do it because I don't like having roots, I actually haven't done any henna or anything since the end of September so I might be growing it out if I can stand it.

In some ways I guess I'm high maintenance - I usually wear makeup, I like to do hair masks and treatments, my nails though short usually have a pearl or clear polish, i like pretty and soft pjs, I like aromatherapy and pretty things in general, I usually wear at least a pair of stud earrings and I love clothing and scarves.
But with three little kids I can get myself ready super quick and I dress pretty casually. Comfort is important to me and I never wear heels (uncomfty and bad for health anyways). This time of year you'd usually find me in jeans, a loose soft sweater, boots and a soft scarf. I don't color my hair, both because I'm ok with my natural color and because I don't want to damage my hair.

I'm the same way - my house, clothing style and lifestyle are pretty simple, and I don't wear makeup, but I've always taken the time to color my hair. I only have to touch it up every couple months, and I think it just makes me look nicer, so it's worth it for me.
I've had all sorts of colors, but at this point in time, I'm mostly just trying to grow out my natural hair color a bit (which is an light ash brown) and I just want to get some subtle highlights or lowlights to spruce it up a bit.
