Can anyone explain how to do this or point to video or instructions that work explaining the process? It was invented by Eadwine but all the links I can find by googling are dead. Thanks.

Sounds intriguing I want to know too!

Coincidentally, my first attempt at a figure 8 was yesterday although my hair is too short :/ Therefore, this interests me as well

Is it this one: http://s136.photobucket.com/user/Arylkin/media/infinitybun.mp4.html

Or the one where you make a bee butt and then flip the loop?

Don't think its that one because you are supposed to be able to do this figure 8 with shorter hair (like BSL)--which I think you outgrew, Kaelee.

The bee butt bun flippy one is what I learned when I first joined the boards and my hair was BSL by then.

That said, it very rarely resembled an eight! The bun in my avatar is a spectacularly not-eight bun. I rather wish I could replicate it on demand!

Is the "cheater's figure-8" the one where you ponytail your hair, then divide the pony into two halves, make a loop with each half (one upwards, one downwards), and pin into place to resemble a figure-8? I've seen this somewhere with kinky curly hair and it looked spectacular. Can't remember where I found it, but it shouldn't be hard to reproduce and will probably work even for APL hair.

The video is the way I've always done an infinity; the bee butt variation always ends up with one massive and one tiny loop.

All I can get is pics of an adorable sweetie pie, but can't get the figure 8 to run! :o(

The suggestion of the pony separated into a higher and lower loop sounds good - but does it work if you have tlb length hair?

Oddly enough, I can get the figure 8 to work with no problem, but forget the infinity! Why does it always seem to be one or the other for so many people?

Same here. That's how I do infinities. I can do a figure-8 the same way, but I tend to find that 8s pull and ∞s don't, so you can guess which one I stick to.

I found the dead links you were talking about. Usually the Wayback Machine (https://archive.org/) saves the day, but in this case it only had one archive of one of the pages, and it was an error message.

Here's a cheaters bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myyuEIkHJ9o) that I've been doing with my not-quite-APL hair. You put your hair in a pony tail but don't bring it all the way through, leaving a loop. Then split the loop into a left half and a right half. Insert a hair stick through one loop and out the other. The end result looks like a figure 8.

Yay! I was finally able to do an infinity bun! :D
I haven't been able to find a video on the bee butt bun, can anyone help me out? The only one I saw on youtube is done by someone with black hair so I can't see what she's doing, it just seems like she should end up with a cinnabun lol

Thank you for posting that video. I have been successful with the bee butt for a figure 8, but the infinity is hit and miss with it. I think the way it's done on the video will work for me. Thanks!

Torrin Paige has a tutorial for it, and she has blonde hair so it's easy to see.

ETA: I mean, she has a tutorial for the bee butt version of the figure 8 and infinity bun.

Well thank you for this video! I tried an infinity bun a couple of inches ago (at midback) using the bee-butt-with-a-flipped coil techniques and I always ended up with one fat loop and one tiny loop with all my damaged hair poking out and it was uuuuuuuugly. Doing it like she's doing in this video worked beautifully and it's both very pretty and comfortable, I'm definetly going to do this bun often. :)

The big difference to keep in mind with bee butt versus cinnabun is that when you are making a cinnabun, each twist of hair lies next to the last, building outwards. In a bee butt, you twist a bit tighter and each twist goes *under* the last, so the whole thing grows outwards. The longer your hair is the more dramatic this looks and sometimes it droops down more like a wasp butt

I've been doing the bee butt version. I like this video's version better because the loops seem more balanced. Thank you!

Well, it's a couple photos and the site is in German, but this is still pretty self-explanatory. (www.langhaarwiki.de/wiki/Beebutt_Bun)
