View Full Version : A comforting thought about seasonal shedding

I've been shedding more than usual for about a month now. I know it's normal for me (as for a lot of people out there), but one can't help but have this nagging "OMG, I'm going bald!!!" thought.

So this is what keeps me sane! According to research, seasonable shedding occurs in Fall months, because a lot of hairs get into resting stage around the month of July. So basically hair we're shedding now is doomed ;) It can't grow any longer, it's just sitting there pointlessly, waiting for its chance to jump off our heads. It simply has to come out to give room to new regrowth. There's no point in mourning it and hope shedding could be reverted or slowed down. It will slow down when all the summer months induced telogen-phase hair leaves to allow new anagen-phase hair to take over.

I don't know if it's how it actually happens.... But I visualize fresh brand new hair follicles physically pushing old hair out, because there's no room for two. It's a nice reassuring visual.

I hope this will help put someone else's mind at ease too :)

Thank you for this, what a comforting thought! Really cheered me up! I think I am brave enough to face my tangle teezer now! I just find it so upsetting when I see how much I shed lately. I know it happens every year but in the back of my mind I always worry that this time round something is terribly wrong....
