Headbands, headpieces and the wearing of

Hi all,
I did a quick search before I posted this so hopefully I'm not rehashing anything too badly! Alright onwards :) I'm trying to find some simple (read hair style challenged person compatible) ways to jazz up my hair, so far I've learned to do a plain fishtail, a very wonky dutch braid and a french fishtail braid (on someone else only. One day hopefully on myself!), I've noticed that adding a cute headband can jazz up even a simple hair style (like a plain pony or even just out hair), I don't own even one headband, so I've hunted down a few I like (feel free to tell me what you think):

I have bangs at the moment so I'm a bit unsure how to work a headband, any tips? Anyone care to post pics of their headbands, on or off? Anybody wear (or have worn) a headpiece in an everyday life?

So many different styles of headbands to choose from. It really comes down to what YOU like. Have fun browsing.

I'd never heard of headpieces before. They are cute! but I have a hard time believing they stay in place for any length of time.

No bangs here, sorry, no advice on that front.

Thanks for the link :) I'm amazed how many different kinds there are! Headpieces are cute, but outside of a formal occasion I can't see where you'd wear them. I think you could probably wear the flower ones to a spring flower show or maybe even the smaller understated ones just casually in spring. I also found this hairstyle (http://www.freckled-fox.com/2012/08/hair-tutorial-easy-headband-tuck.html) which looks really classy and cute-anyone do it with long hair( like hip length and longer?)?

That headband tuck is essentially the same as making headband curls. I tried it once and thought it was super cute while wearing it.

Ah! I have a couple of headbands (headscarves really) and bandanas that I wear often, and I have full u-shaped bangs. I'll take photos when I'll have 5 minutes for me, which is definetly not tomorrow, probably friday. :)

Thistledown, all those are really pretty! I think some of them wouldn't be too hard make oneself... maybe it's time to dig out my old bead weaving-thingy, I really liked the beaded ones =) I've been doing the headband tuck sometimes with broader headband and my boyfriend always comments on me wearing a "bandana".. I've seen it in Swedish forums referred to as a "hair sausage" ;)

With bangs, I think leaving the bangs down and placing the headband in the parting between bangs and the rest of the hair can be very nice-looking. I just googled "bangs headband" and a few pretty pics came up! If I'm wearing a headband I like some of the hair in front to be loose, and since I havn't got bangs I pin them up to the side like fake sideswept bangs. Or, if you want your bangs out of the way sometimes I guess you could just sweep them back in the headband and maybe pin them up a little extra :)

i like the head pieces! I have been wanting to order a simple chain headpiece.

I am sure somehow I can make it wearable irl..if not I'd still wear it it :lol:.

I wear calorimetry headbands, wide headbands, parandi and hair friendly hats (some are snood like). I have some images which I used for my shop. I will try to insert them here using the links so I don't have to upload them elsewhere.

I've never done headband curls, I'll google it and see what I can find :) Mostly when I try tucking my hair into anything it escapes or tangles.

@ Emichiee I love the calorimetry! They are so cute and perfect for me as I hate beanies! I love that you can put your hair in a bun or pony and still be warm without squishing your hair :) I'll be buying a couple when we come up to for winter here in Aus for sure. Also my bangs are much like yours, nice to see that they look cute with a headband.
I really need to learn how to put my hair in a bun with a hair stick. I need to get a hair stick first though....;)

Yes, beanies are really not convenient with buns! That is why I started making these! :D I even made some matching scarfs for a few I own.
A hat style I do like is the slouchy hat though. Perfect for bad hair days.
Bangs - I also like how I can tuck my bangs into the headband on greasy hair days ;) (my bangs are grown out to chin length now though)

Btw. I find hair forks hold up buns much better! I have problems getting sticks to stay put.

@ askan Cute! How long is your hair at the moment? I wonder what length is the limit for the tuck......mines waist/hip length and it looks like it would be hard with long fine hair.

I think this headband would work for the tuck as long as it is not too stretchy? Meaning it can hold hair up well.

Was your hair longer before? Because the avatar shows fullblown tailbone length it seems.

I think with longer hair it could be wrapped. I demonstrated it here with the Gibson Tuck and wrapped the length instead of just tucking http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSARin9SJrY.
Maybe that could also be done with a sturdy hairband. I will have to give this a try.

Thistledown, my hair is just past collar bone, so it's a very modest tuck. This link is where I first saw it done:

She does point out that it seems to hold better is her hair isn't freshly washed or combed and not so slippery.

@ Emichiee Thanks for that link :) I cut my hair back to waist, it's now pretty much hip again and I suspect it'll be back to tailbone early to mid next year-hopefully I'll have mastered some more updos before it grows back! If you do try a headband tuck please post pics-I'd love to see :)

Well I wore a headband today, just to see if it would stay in place before I bought any new ones, I used an old think one that I keep for face washing-it stayed in place (I wore it with my plait though, so maybe it held it a bit LOL) and I think it look quiet good, so I'm going to buy a couple with some cute details (beads, felt flowers) now just to wear around and see if it looks okay :)

I love it! I sometimes wear headbands like that, so it looks more decorative like a crown, rather than functional to hold the hair back.
