Hi!

I'm a newbie here... and I'm a guy :)

Unlike a lot of you, my goal isn't to rock a mane down to my buttocks, but I am heading for "resting on shoulder with a slight swoop" length hair. So an inch or two before it turns metal, effectively "grunge" length, if that makes any sense to anyone. Think Kurt Cobain

Anyway, I'm dealing with some lingering dye, and it's very brassy/strong in color compared to my natural hair color which is a medium blonde that looks gray, that looks great with my complexion. I dyed my hair dark brown twice this year, in March and then again in May... Even if they were permanent dyes, they have since faded greatly.

The first picture is from a few weeks after the last dye job, around May, with my roots coming out. At this point the dye is washed out and faded, and I have used two boxes of Color Oops to remove as much dye as I could. The second picture is my current hair. As you can see, apart from the 3 inch roots, it's very brassy. The lightness matches up almost perfectly with my natural hair color, so it's just the tint that is off. I really want to ash it away. I have a purple shampoo with dye in it that's supposed to remove brassy and yellow tinge, but it hasn't done all too much, albeit a little bit. I've recently ordered a can of Goldwell Soft Color (violet blonde), which is a purple foam dye that's supposed to remove unwanted yellow and brassy tones. It's doubt it's permanent however.

Do any of you have any tips? Maybe you know of a better blue/purple shampoo/dye. I'm sure some of you have dealt with the same thing. I'm not looking to bleach and re-dye right now. I've thought about using a blue dye for a very short amount of time, but that seems a little risky. I could go to a hair dresser, but I'd rather try to fix it myself than pay 200 dollars!

Try Wella Color Charm Toner T-18 with 10 Vol. developer. Works great to tone my bottle blonde hair. It isn't permanent but it works very well. I also use Shiny Silver purple shampoo & condish. All from Sally.

Rather than blue dye for a short period of time (still likely to end up blue!), how about blue dye, diluted a lot with conditioner, then for a fairly short period? Someone else on the forum has had good luck with this. (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=115585) You'll want to keep it very dilute, though, given how pale your color is.

Thank you both for great suggestions :) Now I have two backup solutions if my current line up fails!
