Cute! A friend of mine used to do these huge messy bouffants in a similar way. She'd just douse her hair in hairspray, scrunch it up and start sticking in bobby pins until it held. It looked pretty cool, actually.

I think having layers helps, my hair is kinda layered. I'm sure there are ways to get it without layers though :)
