Is there anyone else who loves how hair looked back in the 60s? They had some impressive updos. I know they teased a lot but their hair still looks pretty healthy.

My auntie (born in 1950) had very long, thick and black hair in the 60s that she wore in HUGE beehive. When I say huge I mean huge. Must have made her about 10 cm taller than she was.

My mother's friend told me that her mum would go to a hairdresser once a week to wash her hair and the hairdresser put her hair into bouffant and she kept her hair up for a week. Just how easy was that!

I loved Twiggy's short hair, it's quite an iconic look IMO.

I think many 1960's hairstyles looks really nice, also I like how many women, and not rich ones but regular everyday women went to the hairdresser often once a week and it was a place to meet friends and chat, that is something different than how it is today.

I always liked Marlo Thomas hair in the show "That Girl"

My grandmother did this too! Hairdresser every Saturday, and no washing between. She would smooth out her hair, maybe fluff the parts that got flattened while sleeping, but that was it. She kept this tradition her whole life, even when she got the "old lady cut and perm" look.

I learned the french twist in the 60s, still love that style.

Love this era for hairstyles. It all looks so "done" which is how it should be. Not pounds of hairspray and hours with the curling iron just to look like you rolled out of bed.

So happy to hear other people like that era too =)
My mum told that she and her family would wash their hair once a week. Water came from the well and they warmed ut and put into this big bucket. 8 people could use that one bug bucket! According to pictures everyone of them had nice hair.

Rookie has an amazing tutorial for a no-tease beehive. (http://rookiemag.com/2012/04/how-to-do-a-beehive/)

I loved the hippie vibe from the 60's and even well into the 70's. Almost everyone wore their hair long and straight.

I do like those styles, but just to look at. They must have been a chore to keep from getting messed up. I redo my buns a few times a day, but I'm not used to having my hair up all the time yet.

I'm partial to the long-haired hippie look, but I do appreciate other 60's and especially 70's styles.

I love the way that some people are defining the sixties look as the teased beehives from the early part, some the Bardot and Shrimpton look and others the late 60s counter-culture look :-)

You're quite welcome. It's become one of my go-to styles, just because it's so hair friendly.

I can't edit my posts, but I should add: something that makes it a lot easier to do with long hair is if you do the ponytail, braid it loosely, and then make *that* into the beehive, rather than using completely loose hair.

It always looked so healthy. Long, straight, and free flowing.

Yes, it was a decade which was really different in the beginning and the end.
I lived through it as a child and it was amazing how things changed seemingly overnight.
Many people preserved those beauty party hairstyles all week with either sponge curler or pin curls at night.
the huge afro also belongs to the 1960's. 1968-1975, I would estimate.

My family loves to watch Brady Bunch reruns. I know that Brady Bunch was more in the 70's and not the 60's, but the hair in that show was great! At one point, Jan's hair was classic length and so pretty. Marcia's hair was beautiful too. It seems that every picture I see of the 60's and early 70's, you can easily find someone in the picture with super long hair. Times really have changed.
