Hi everyone -- I could use help picking out a sturdy but pretty bun for a friend's wedding. She's one of my favorite people ever so I want to look well-groomed for her big day. As an LHC person, hair is central to that for me.

I bought these lovely yellow rose hairsticks:

They have spirals of glass on them, which makes them hold my fine hair better than some other glass hair sticks I've tried. I'd like to wear them with a yellow dress. I plan to have my dark blonde hair up in some sort of bun that will last all evening, and (hopefully!) through a bit of dancing. Gibralter buns and flipped buns are my stand-bys but I'd like to do something special for her wedding. Do any of you have any ideas?

I find a disc bun holds like a rock and looks more complicated than it is.

I like a sock bun with the sticks as decoration, not as structural items.

I wore a Jamie Leigh bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6vq6paUaF0) for my friend's wedding this summer - it held from 11 AM until I took it down around midnight, surviving dancing and several rounds of table tennis. Pretty and sturdy!

This is such a lovely bun... I adore that woman.

Torrin also made a loverly rope braid, 2 strand vortex that was simply stunning. Yes, you need hair pins but you can still use the hair sticks for a bit of bling and extra support.

I would recommend the Swoop-Bun after a Torrin Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rx1wl8fNvto i think it looks stunning and it is easy to make :o Hope you will have a lovely day!

An infinity bun is really pretty and holds like a rock. Also a rope braided bun would be pretty and look a lot more complicated then it actually is. :).

Great suggestions from you all. Thank you! I'm going to test these out over the next week to see what holds best for me (and which ones I can actually do well!). I am so excited for my friend's wedding...she's the best and I'm friends with her soon-to-be husband. How lucky am I to have two friends getting married?

Today -- testing the disc bun. Its pretty, understated and sturdy. I like it so far!

I really like the cameo bun. It holds really well for me with Amish pins.

And I am going to say, the JamieLeigh bun does stay forever and is comfortable, as it is so well distributed!

GREAT suggestions! I'm glad I asked because now I have some fun new buns to play with. I loved the disc bun today -- its still going strong and its super-comfy. I can't wait to try the others.

Well, you've just inspired me to try this. It's a little messy, but holding well so far. :)

I suggest a braided beehive, with your pretty sticks as decoration.
Its simple, pretty and sturdy and surprinsingly big. :o

Ooh, I like big! As a finey, big is relative, but I suspect that it could look quite cool. I'm enjoying experimenting with these buns anyway and finding new favorites. Today is Jamie Leigh bun day!

I like a plain bun myself.

I usually do Gibraltar buns -- I'm kind of enjoying this spree of bun-testing. I really didn't think I'd like the Jamie Leigh on me, but it looks great and I look like I have TONS of hair. Oh, and its also comfy...but I like the tons of hair thing more.

The having-tons-of-hair thing is definitely one of the perks to it for me, too. *g* Protip - braiding with a paranda (http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k626/growingmyhair/IMG_7095_zpsfc20c3c3.jpg) makes for an even bigger and sturdier bun! Seriously, a paranda-braided Jamie Leigh is probably the most secure bun there is for me. :D
