Please show us your handiwork. Self-trims, full self-haircuts...show off your skill and daring!

Who will be the first? Disastrous self-trim photos are welcome, too.

Ha ha! I self cut but my hair is only 3" long right now, and that is grown out from a 3/4" buzz cut. I don't imagine that is the kind of pic you were looking for. Ironically, I have done plenty of self cuts at short lengths but was always too scared to self cut when my hair was long. Since joining LHC I have discovered that there are several methods for trimming long hair that look way easier than trimming a pixie or bob!

I would hesitate to cut my own hair. I have learned my lesson!

I have been self-trimming very short bits at a time, but have taken it up from tb to high hip/below waist now to get rid of the ratty ends and try to thicken it a bit. Don't have before/after pics, though, and am hoping not to have to do it again!

ETA: First time I self-trimmed was shortly after I joined LHC and I meant to trim an inch off. EIGHT INCHES PLUS later, and still not even, I had to stop myself before I got to the pixie length! It has only been this year that I've gotten properly over the experience to attempt it in super baby steps again.... :o(

You see that horrible fringe? That was my own doing. I cut my bangs from my chin to eyebrow and then decided I didn't like them being straight across so I kept whacking at them to make them diagonal. And then when I started getting the mullet I thought it'd be a good idea to layer my hair and not cut off the mullet! I wore pigtails all year. I was a scene kid so it fit the style, but oh god that was a very sad time for my hair [8th grade]

I've self-cut for the last year. I'm a control freak with any beauty treatments and cannot stand letting someone else meddle with my hair/skin ect. I've ended up getting quite good (by experimenting and watching youtube videos) and now my friends are coming to me for hair cuts and hair dying... Success! I'm deffo an advocate for self-trimming :)

It does not look that bad for the work of a 13-year old, emilylightening. Can you post a picture, goldenlady?

Just a few weeks ago, my hair was layered (it was waist length). It still is waist, just layered. We (my mom cuts it for me) took 4 inches off, and used one of the two "compact cut" methods from the book, "Haircutting for dummies" (which I totally recommend). There are two compact cut methods. You make a ponytail and cut the hair - that's basically it. For longer layers, you make the ponytail on the top of your head and snip. For shorter layers, you make the ponytail at your hairline, on your forehead. Both are awesome methods, especially for wavy and curly hair. Be sure not to cut too much, though, or you'll end up with short hair.

I would like to see that book, "Haircutting for Dummies", but I am not brave enough to try it!

Thanks, GrowingGlory. :flower:

My last cut/chop was in July 2012, so I'm trying to decide if it's time for me to trim again. :hmm:

I think I did well at cutting my own hair

(keep in mind I've been growing out a pixie hair cut with longer bangs and thats why one side is shorter than the other, but I dont mind it till it gets long enough to make more of an even length)

Of course I've been growing it back out ever since, just wanted to try out these kind of bangs.

Any pics I've posted have included hair I cut, as I've been doing it for at least 6 years. I favor layers: http://imageshack.us/a/img692/3236/6dql.jpg

Becca - those bangs are so cute!
Can I ask you why you decided to grow back out? I've been on the fence for about a year about whether or not to cut in bangs...

Spirals - beautiful hair, and great job with the layers!

And thanks, Lapushka! :smooch:

Because i get bored with my hair easily, and I missed having longer bangs. So I decided to grow them out again :). Till they are long enough to do side swept style, I plan to clip them back since they get in my eyes.

Awesome! I'm relieved to hear at least someone say it isn't because they're horrible, won't lay straight, get greasy too easily, etc., etc., which are all of the concerns that have been holding me back from that final step.

Yozhik, thank you! I sometimes miss those crown layers, but my hair was only BSL then and is waist now. I don't know how they would look. They did make styling easier.

I cut some too. Feye. Only the blunt cut, I haven't touched the sides. I tried to get rid of the V-hem plus it really thinned out and looked "okay" only right after brushing, then two minutes later, it was a stringy mess.

I have to ask a friend to even it out for me but she's traveling now. I don't trust anyone else...

This was from October of last year, when I cut myself some bangs. I rather liked them for a while. Now I wish they'd hurry up and grow out. lol

I trim about twice per year using the ponytail compact cut method. This (poor quality pic) was taken just after a cut in July.

I did my own big chop and have been doing my own maintenance trims for two years. I need help after the pixie to get over the awkward stage, but once I hit shoulder I felt very comfortable cutting it on my own.

But, as a curly, I don't really care if my hemline is even. It just has to be close enough.

That was such a hard time in my life. Middle school + feeling super self-conscious about a really bad haircut = ICK.
Your nice comments are much appreciated. :p

You do an awesome job yourself. It looks perfect and I don't think a pro could top that! Your ends are definitely thickening up. I love trimming myself because I'm in no fear of taking too much off. I feel safer taking too little than too much.

Aww thanks Amybeth i used to be in hairdressing maybe that's it  i'm considering a big trim in the summer to get rid of the final bits of dye damage then i will be back to micro trimming it's strangely addictive . Thanks very much :D small steps is best if you look at Emi video she takes off mm at a time i just get compulsive and take inches off..

I self trimmed for a while after discovering Feye's method, it's pretty much idiot proof! :) (check out Habioku's tutorial on Youtube!) Also chopped myself a side swept fringe last November, loved it for about three days, then it started annoying the heck out of me . . . grown out to my collarbone now! Pesky fringes!

I love the way bangs look, and my face is rather longish, so I would like them for about 5 minutes after blowing them dry with a mousse. Then they get stringy and oily and look awful for the rest of the day. They are just soooo not worth it. And yes, they take forever to grow out. The hair right around my face seems to grow the slowest of any on my head, so NO more bangs for me, ever.

Oh no, I just realized that in the picture right - that just little above the waist... That is the length that I want right now! But since I'm at TBL, I will not rush into it. I'll give myself some time to think it through (and looking at your picture definitely won't help me to get rid of the idea!).
