View Full Version : Let's see your hair at its WORST

So I saw the thread 'Let's see your hair at its best' and thought why not start one with our hair at its WORST. I am sure like me a lot of us do it, that is, only post the really good shots of our hair and discard the not so nice ones. (I post the best shot of my hair diligently to my album every month), but I am the first to admit that I take around 10 bad ones for every good shot, and I'd love to see your bad ones too, warts and all.

To start us off here is a shot of my hair when I first started my hair journey over 2.5yrs ago. It was in really bad condition although it looks smooth in the pic because I had just brushed it, which unfortunately brought the back of my head cow lick to light :(.

The month before this photo was taken I'd had around 6" cut off (an asymmetrical bob). The hemline is uneven and chunks are missing because of the dye and straightening damage.

That right there is natural, air-dried hair. My goth niece did the makeup for me and said "look mad!" Did I succeed?
Oh, and no "hair at its worst" thread could be complete without the

hahahahahahha; but I liked my cut at that time. It was modern; everybody loved that cut.

Nice photos Spidermom, I think it is inspiring to lurkers and the newer members to see bad hair shots. A lot of us have come a long way.

Also, I keep meaning to ask in reference to your sigi pic. Who won, you or the snake?

spidermom

I always win. Buster is actually pretty easy to handle. He only bit me once, and it was my fault. I reached into his enclosure too fast, and I'm sure he thought my hand was food coming down.

Are you a snake handler?

spidermom
September 2nd, 2013, 05:45 PM
Buster is a pet; that's the only reason I handle him. I have a pet ball python, too; that snake is much smaller.

mmmh... lovely mullet spidermom. Here is my version of the mullet. Yes. in 2009 my super fancy hair dresser thought that this would look great on me. As always I came in saying that I wanted to keep my hair long (SL) but he always finds that I should reveal my face with a short do (well he's right! My face does look good with short hair!) - so there we go, a compromise. short in the front, long in the back. WHAT. THE. FONT.

I have another perfect picture for this thread, from when I was an awkward teenager.
think: late nineties, early naughties. middle part, moon face, above shoulder length triangular shape of hair. I shall find it and come back. Or maybe I won't dare?

I've got a shocker from my teens too. Picture it: shiny high forehead, too short bangs/fringe with a double cow lick. Thankfully it is on film, so no sharing of that one today (or any day)

a double cowlick - what places are we talking about here? the fringe area? :P haha

In the fringe at the front, one on either side of a middle part. And don't forget the one at the base of my neck at the back. I am truly (triple) blessed by the cow licking gods

This is way back about 3+ years ago or so after I'd been growing my hair out and had just cut about 7 inches of bleach damage off. Still was pretty bad, but better than it was.
http://i44.tinypic.com/2prij3t.jpg

And this is a year ago at the most...this is just a crummy hair day for me. I had maybe 2 drops of oil on my hair....and this is what happens. There's not much of it, so when it clumps together it's not pretty!!

Sadly the one perm I ever got was gone the next day so I have no pictures to see if it was hideous, neither do I have pictures of big 80s crimped hair, nor a head full of microbraids done by my sister (someday I should get them professionally done just to see if they truly look that bad on my thin hair or if my sister just has a knack for ill looking braids). I'm rather fond of my "are you a boy" hair cuts though the first time I looked through the digitized family album I did a double take and had to ask my step dad who the boy was, but given that I rarely looked in a mirror at that age it isn't so surprising that I don't recognize myself. Unfortunately the growing out a "are you a boy" cut mullets are completely obscured by the big yellow star and thus not worth the bother of sharing.

I was able to find a representative picture of the back of my head as an unbrushed child:
http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg632/neko_kawaii_hair/21Manis9thBDcopy_zps4fa5bac7.jpg
I hated that color and was very glad that it darkened when I was a teen.

Here is a hideous attempt at some sort of fancy braid:
http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg632/neko_kawaii_hair/_DSC4448_zpsb818fd75.jpg

And some sort of bun that fell utterly to pieces:
http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg632/neko_kawaii_hair/P1010005JPG_zpsa0c8b147.jpg

I think I was trying to get a natural texture photo here. It certainly doesn't look polished, but I can't call it "bad" hair, just uncombed.
http://i1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg632/neko_kawaii_hair/_DSC7873_zpsc89986cd.jpg

I must try to remember to get a picture of it all matted after wearing it down for a day before spending half an hour to carefully comb the tangles out, that won't be easy to photograph though. That would be my current hair at its argh-why-did-I-wear-it-down worst.

Shortly after I joined LHC, I was told a proper hair typing photo was washing your hair with a clarifying shampoo, no conditioner, let dry naturally. The pictures I took don't quite accurately show how terrible my hair looked after that.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/young_artist/DSCN9425.jpg

Also, before I joined LHC, I was taught the only acceptable way to deal with hair was to brush it all the time. Which of course turned my natural curls into frizzy, confused waves all the time.

The mullets seem to be winning hands down when it comes to WORST hair photos. And yes I have had one, as well as a really bad spiral perm and a (secret) boyfriend I had when I was 13 gave me a crimper, so there are some nasty ones of long forgotten crimped hair too. Fortunately this was all back in the 80's so they are on film (negatives) so no sharing them either. And lets not forget after the bad perm I had the 'are you a boy' hair and questions too.

Okay, I think I can play this game. Hang on while I dig out some photos. :silly:

This was taken when I reached Classic, but had not yet grown out the cursed layers. It's very obvious where they begin!

And this was a bun I had fallen asleep on. It was such a shambles when I woke up I thought it was funny, hence the photo.

Okay - so with my hair being kept short all the time there were some days I just didn't do anything with it and left it to it's own choice of style - this usually meant sticking up without gel :S

I can't find the first one in larger which is pity because it's awesome too. :demon:

Yes it's yellow.:brainbleach: The process of going from black dye to ash light brown went out of control. It took me a lot of visits to the salon, but the hairdresser apparently couldn't give me the ashier look, so I just told her I want it lighter every time I went there. It was dry, fried and frizzy as hell.

And this: http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p496/Lilith513/164c3062-798a-4770-889a-3ff75c5338d8-1.jpg
I already started taking care of my fried, tapered hair here, and I already trimmed some of the damage off (I was close to waist). So, if I had a before picture it would probably look worse.

Sadly, I don't think I have any pictures of the perm that melted my hair, I didn't allow pictures to be taken of me for YEARS!

I'll need to dig out and scan the one picture of me with my growing out pixie mullet that I ponytailed into a rat tail (WHY did my parents allow me to do that for months?!?! I can't forgive them for that!).

BUT, here's my hair at it's current worst:
http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af164/veryhairyfairy/whichhair9-2-13_zpsefc312cf.jpg (http://s1004.photobucket.com/user/veryhairyfairy/media/whichhair9-2-13_zpsefc312cf.jpg.html)

Yeah, I know, not so bad, right? But here's the close up:
http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af164/veryhairyfairy/whichhair29-2-13_zpsa9d163c1.jpg (http://s1004.photobucket.com/user/veryhairyfairy/media/whichhair29-2-13_zpsa9d163c1.jpg.html)

A full two inches of frizz standing off of it! I call it my "Which hair" because it goes every which way. And that's pretty much how it looks most days. It's one of the reasons I braid or bun all the time, that frizz is ridiculous. (Oil helps, but I have kitties and I don't like the added coating of lint and hair that cause tangles)

Love this thread! :D

I'll join! I'm sure my hair has been worse than this and I still get some really bad hair days even now, but for now the worst photos I could find were of my hair when I just joined. I had tried the "no poo" aka. baking soda + vinegar washing method which had left my hair dry and on top of that way too much oil, so here you go, dry oily unevenly layered hair dyed nearly black. This is from about a year and a half ago.

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3383&d=1364023688

Oh and then there's of course my lovely natural texture, tentacles!

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3474&d=1364539829

Also in this photo (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5144&d=1373138971) my hair is doing something really awful after sitting an hour in some very heavy and gusty wind, even though otherwise the photo is somewhat decent from the neck down. It's a linky because the picture is rather large.

Okay, I don't have any photos of when I COMPLETELY abused my hair. It was bleached 5x in a day, straightened to the point of smoke, blowdried to death, etc.

But, here is something else. I can't remember when from but you can see all the damage at the ends! Ack.

Itty bitty heads, Tarzan mullets, Which Hair (which ever way), hair tentacles and lots and lots of frizz. I know I am not supposed to but I am wetting myself laughing. So nice to know that for every photo of luscious locks there are more than enough horror stories.

My hair is in way better condition than when I started but it still has days it misbehaves too. I will hunt around for some more bad ones of mine, I have plenty

Okay, I have to say that some of you are posting your "worst" pictures, and they are looking amazing to me! I was way too embarrassed to show a picture of me with a mullet (remember the 80's where we would say we wanted it "short and feathered"??). Instead, I will show a picture of one of my lovely tangles that I get underneath my hair when I wear it down for the day. I brought it forward for the picture (the rest of my hair is behind me). My hair does it worse when it hits tailbone or longer. Beautiful, huh? I have a question related to this thread:
Did anybody else notice that when your hair is clean and bouncy it looks strangely dull on photos, but when you oil it heavily before shampooing and you get it deliberately greasy, gross and unpresentable, it looks surprisingly awesome and mega-shiny on photos? I wonder if others experience this strange effect.

Here's some of my hair after years of heat damage. If it doesn't look as bad as it was, it because it was smoothed out with my fire tongs... I mean flat iron. Here goes.

In this one, you can see the ends look broken off, dry and crunchy. I think this may have been a razor cut followed up with more daily washing and heat damage:
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj183/andrea_brooke_2007/e8700488-99e3-48fc-8117-437686168695.jpg (http://s272.photobucket.com/user/andrea_brooke_2007/media/e8700488-99e3-48fc-8117-437686168695.jpg.html)

And this on is more of the same. You can see the breakage along the hair line. Grant it, the lighting in this photo isn't great, but my natural "blondette" looks very dull. It's lacking life. Oh the it would appear as though I was rocking the sawed off ends with that razor cut:

Yep, have to agree here. Freshly washed I have lots of volume, waves and curls but in photos it looks like a dried out, crunchy rat's nest. When I oil it comes up really shiny and looks dead straight and healthy?

Even after 5 years of LHC care something terrible happened to it. Not sure exactly what......health problems combined with working outdoors and a change in the brand of hair color I used. It was horrible; notice my sad face :(

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y538/girlcat47/007_zps8de69ea5.jpg (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/girlcat47/media/007_zps8de69ea5.jpg.html)

The texture was truly awful....

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y538/girlcat47/023_zpsfb6fb15a.jpg (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/girlcat47/media/023_zpsfb6fb15a.jpg.html)

No amount of Curly Girl method care could help it. It was dry, lifeless frizz. I had to cut it into an ugly chin length bob. :(

My hair is in recovery now; I have stopped coloring and I'm letting my silver grow in. I try to keep it out of the sun more and I'm trying to optimize my health problems.

Sorry for the huge pics! I resized, so I don't know why they're so big.

girlcat36 - I noticed something else. It says that you are 47 but you look like 20something... whoaaaa! I kid you not, I am stunned by your youthful look!

It's good that things are looking up for you and your hair again. It's a bummer that you had to cut it that short when you were just achieving your hair goal :/

Lol. I will admit, though, that I styled it like this on purpose. I was frustrated because I'd cut it and couldn't figure out how to style it, so I just brushed it. Then I realized it was short enough to actually attain the vertical and I had to photograph the disaster. I call this my "Don King" picture. :D

And I've never bleached :demon: :rollin: Some of your worst I'd take as my best, or rather, what I'm shooting for -- hoping to get there one day and if I do, I'll go dance around a big fire and celebrate with red wine (spidermom comes to my mind). erhum...Polar Cathy you seem to have forgotten the first picture posted? I am still yet to see anyone top that. It wins hands down. What makes it worse is that it happened as a natural progression of bad hair decision making. There's no hairdresser, oils, brushing, styling, lighting etc to blame there, just bad bad hair choices. And like Spidermom my head looks itty bitty (that I blame on the angle of the camera).

Here's the pic to remind you....oh the horror

You've forced me to show my hand. This photo was taken around two months before that other one.

http://mylushlonghaircarejourney.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/hair-december-2010.jpg?w=474

With the exception there is no henna or coconut oil in it. I was dying it every month dark brown yet it was yellow brown with a hint of red. (I had no idea I had wavy hair either). No sunbleach there, just hair so porous no dye would stay in it longer than 4wks. It looked like straw in every way and felt like it too. It is barely past my shoulders and you can see through it, it was that thin from breakage. This photo was my catalyst, I was ready to shave it off. Come to think of it, I actually hate this photo more than the first one.

Alright (kicks can and grumbles under her breath) we'll call it a draw OR we could just focus our attention on YumiYume's BROOM HAIR! If there is a prize for most visible white dots, Yumiyume has coveted that one. Did you bleach it first before doing it purple? Or are they from a flat iron?

This thread made me go back to some old pics on my pc, I used to have very badly treated hair, but did'nt really take pics of it (I hated it), I found one though, but it doesn't show how bad it was, but it was very stiff, frizzy and dry due to heat styling and bleach, in this pic I was growing out the bleach and had already dyed over with brown, but my hair was very porous and did not hold the color, and to top it off I was holding my poytail up with an effing rubber band! Oh, the horror! This was arround 2008 or so....

yes, definitely, the fact that it's overexposed doesn't help here at all. hair and photography - you often can't really show what your hair really looks/ feels like. Henne's hair for example looks really nice in the pictures but I believe her when she says that her hair felt awful.

Girlcat, your hair is looking so lovely now, and I love the silvers! Glad to hear you're getting compliments on it. :) You look so young, whether your hair is brown or silvery.

I can identify with your "before" hair issues. I also cut back to a bob/chin length in 2011 and again in 2012 because of health and stress issues, despite having treated it well with info from the hair forums for about 5 or 6 years. Here is a picture of it in April 2011 before I got it cut off:

http://i462.photobucket.com/albums/qq341/houseofhoff/before_4-19-11.jpg

It is so much healthier now, and I'm growing it out from a bob I got in March of this year. You can see how my hair looks currently in my signature photo.

My hair decided it wants to be curly when I was 12 or something (hormones). Demi or semi-permanent red dye. That thing on my head was huge and I had no idea how to control it.
http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p496/Lilith513/56174fef-57a9-48ed-bb33-72127e04d0c9.jpg?t=1378405818

Thin ends part 1: Dyeing (lightening), a lot of heat, curls turning into waves. My hair was yellow then, and it looked so much better in black and white.;)
http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p496/Lilith513/888a4c0b-ed0e-42c7-94c4-a1c5887d2d76.jpg?t=1378401203

Thin ends part 2: Before LHC. No straightening, dyeing or heat for a year or so. First big shed due to BC pills probably. That's pretty much all of my hair in front on both sides (probably some shorter locks behind that wouldn't make much difference anyway).
http://i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p496/Lilith513/0e74bb32-d6c8-4a7d-b20d-49ce3bd22601.jpg?t=1378401710

Thin ends part 3: Around the time I joined. (It wasn't that long my posture is weird in this pics). Micro trimming, no damaging practices.

I'm not even sure, if my hair will look better than that when it gets longer, now that I don't abuse it. I can't help but think, that I might have kind of a short terminal length.

Now I think it was an extreme greaseball.

You! You are relentless! :D

PolarCathy, I believe people are trying to be nice by not pointing out the glaringly obvious ugliness of our photos. You on the other hand, tut tut, have been at work recruiting whilst I slept :stirpot:

On a more serious side, it is tragic to say we are our own worst critics OR is it we just savvy enough not to be deluded into thinking we don't look 'all that' all the time? And bad hair days/stages are just a part of life?

Ahh, the "wet look" or "Otter in an Oilslick"!

Situational worst only...which makes these pics second class worst hair only...appropriate care and we could move over to best (or at least pretty darned decent) hair threads.

SORRY FOR BIG PICTURES - I MAY EDIT AND PUT IN SMALLER ONES

What a wonderful thread. I have a bunch of pictures for you! (actually only 4) Let's start with worst haircut:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6221&d=1378426353
(The worst haircut in the history of Shari Campbell. Back when I was a baby-faced 8th grader.)

Now, the bleach job that caused the pixie:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6222&d=1378426356
(Looks smooth, and soft, right? No. Absolutely felt like hay. It was disgusting. Every single strand of hair ended in a split. I have never had any noticeable split ends before then. This picture may look really good, but trust me, it was not good at all.)

Something crazy I did after I decided on the big chop, just for kicks:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6224&d=1378426598
(Asymmetrical bob with a tail. Only picture I have to prove my hair had been full APL before the pixie.)

The yellow pixie of doom:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6223&d=1378426358
(Never ever ever cutting my hair into a pixie again. Never ever ever bleaching it again, either!!! This was a very hard time in my life. Hence me wearing makeup.)

LOL thank you? I don't even know what to think. But yeah it was something I'd thought about doing because of one of my characters... and since I had to chop it all off anyway I just did it! Even wore it to school! The tail got annoying after like 1-2 days and then I chopped it off and just had the bob for the last like... 3? days before the pixie. I actually kept the tail for a while [to remind me of how damaged my hair was- so i'd never do that again] but then my dog chewed it up and i had to throw it out :P

Surely there are some pictures of me as a kid somewhere. I'll have to find them once my mom is finished moving. I hated brushing it, so at one point the knots had to be cut out! And it wasn't like cutting off length; these were on the back of my head. It was a terrible rats nest until around high school!

I'll play!
My best picture of my hair at it's worst is in my siggie, below!!
At that point, I had found LLHC and was frantically CO and oiling to try to save my hair!
Sooo much damage. But my natural hair finally got long enough this summer, to cut the damage off, so I'm a shorty and growing again. (see undamaged hair in my profile pic on the left.) You all have some great shots!! And many of your worst is still enviable!

If I ever go visit my mother, I'll make sure to swipe some pics for this thread. There's one of me walking out of my bedroom and got caught unawares. I have this horrified doe look. You can see I am missing a tooth, I got scabbed knees and to top it all off, my hair... my lovely hair was so FRIED and horrifying it looked like a really bad, cheap, synthetic cleopatra wig that somehow found its way into a dryer.

Such fun to see everyone's hair at its "worst" and know that I'm not alone in having bad hair days (or years, in my case :)).

I'm glad you posted! I haven't been here at LHC in a while, but I remember you from a while back and we seemed to have a lot of the same hair issues. Your before pic hair looks very much like my before pic, except mine was longer. The hair in your siggy looks much healthier; It hope it continues to grow that way!

I loved my shaggy cut, but my hair was really fried from chemical dye and heat styling.

YumiYume
September 12th, 2013, 06:25 AM
Alright (kicks can and grumbles under her breath) we'll call it a draw OR we could just focus our attention on YumiYume's BROOM HAIR! If there is a prize for most visible white dots, Yumiyume has coveted that one. Did you bleach it first before doing it purple? Or are they from a flat iron?

thank you for the prize ;)
My hair was alredy damaged before since I coloured it copper-red with chemical dyes, let it fade and redo, fade, redo and so on (only coloured a few time a year and was in the start of cleaning with only conditioner so it was bad and dry). I never blow-dried or flat-ironed but I think I had used curling iron a few times. never wore it up eather so a lot damage in everyday life I think. I did have roots for what I can remember and probobly a few splits and then I was going to attend an event and dye my hair purple so I first tried a semi-dye but it did not take colour well so I took a permanent dye. all my fluffiness went away and my waves became weard and everything so it probobly did not want to be dyed anymore =/

[...]
I have to admit YumiYume's white dots of death are pretty impressive, but I still think my hair was worse. I win, I win, I win!!!!!!!

haha ^^

AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHH it hurts to look at these white dots!

At first I thought this was some kind of flour/ cornstarch accident!

yeah, I was sad everytime I looked close and wondered why on earth I had to destroy it like that :(

[...] I don't think it's so bad :flowers: I mean it. A bit of leave-in... and better! No? Hmmmm... (I'm probably biased because I adore curly hair, nah)

heh, sweet of you, but it was a horror :P. to "fix" the mess I did not think of leave-in, I went to the hairdresser and made her bleach it of, it turned orange (half year later faded to a nice strawberry blonde) but she did cut way to much of than I agreed on, the bleach went well and te worst got of but from waist back to apl made me really sad and I cryed a lot after that.. If I just hadnt dyed it purple, the waves on that picture is from broken hairs, the dye destroyed my wave pattern to =/

[...] For me, YumiYume and PolarCathy are neck and neck...
I did not understand what that ment, english is sometimes hard wen it comes to uh.. well.. sentences :P

[...] My vote goes to YumiYume. Those White Dots of Doom are truly frightening. :disbelief

haha well thank you for your vote ;), yes my hair decided to try being an actress in a horror movie, sadly its carerer ended by a sissor :o

I don't have any pictures of my bleach disaster hair (think the colour and texture of hay with little short broken bits sticking out everywhere), but I've got a couple of horrors:

Brush, meet waves.

And these were my ends after growing from barely shoulder to a little past waist with only 1" trimmed (and as you can see, I was growing out a very short bob with a fringe  )

I took off a good 2" after seeing that pic, my usual waves were hiding how bad those ends really were.

Aww, thank you! Don't brush your beautiful waves though, I seriously looked like a poofball in real life! You can get a nice version by drying your hair on big rollers and then (carefully) combing the wave a little with a wide tooth comb - it looks like we have a very similar hair type so this will probably work really well on yours too :toast:

Thanks for the advice!:) Mine aren't really well defined if I shampoo, and if I Co-wash or water only wash (signature picture) I shed like crazy. It's too short to style right now though, so I just comb, but then it gets almost straight, and yes puffy.;) I did damp bunning when my hair was longer, but than it all looked really flat near the scalp.

I'd seen this thread, and thought about my hair at it's worse, but forgot that I actually uploaded the photos. So here they are. Taken after I had let down my hair from a 5-strand crown braid, worn for 6 days. It may not look terribly bad, but trust me, it was. The Ren fest braider had used gel and hairspray, so add that into the mix of scalp grunge, grease and sweat, and I literally could smell my hair when I took it down. It was this funky, musty, gross smell. :disgust: It was disgusting. I think it literally grossed me out! But I did have some pretty spectacular braid waves and volume! :D (And no, I don't have an uneven hemline. It's just the way the hair was braided, it left it all curled up weird.)

I found a picture the other day of me at 16... It's definitely not my hair at its very worst (think one huge matted clump that I tore into sections to form dreadlocks :uhh:) but it isn't good! I had normal hair at the back and an area of dreadlocks either side of my face  and loads of coloured wool and random things like fishing spinner connectors and jewellery hanging from them... I even had loads of bells hanging from them at one point. :p Cripes!

I think the bleached mess that is my current hair should win some sort of prize. This was taken for hairtyping, I've since (very recently) moved to CO which is battling the frizz monsters.

It doesn't have a green tinge in natural light thankfully, plus the lengths look less hay-ish being moisturised. Though, still not amazing...

Love this thread!

Here's the worst condition my hair has been in, back in 2009. I LOVED the colour but you can see where it's frizzy and frazzled. That's major bleach damage right there. Bits of it were literally breaking off. I've always considered my hair to be pretty resilient, but I really overdid the bleach and that's the most damaged it's ever been. I was lucky that it was only the top layers.
I got it cut into a pixie shortly after this, and all those damaged parts were cut off.

Back in the ole, layered, lemon-juice highlighted, blow dried, and flat ironed days.

Let the image speak.

I backcombed it for extra volume. The photo is 5 years ago, before I permed my hair for the first time (believe it or not, my hair was quite healthy and straight, just a bit wavy). I have very fine hair, hence I have A LOT...
And this second picture is one of the worst moments my hair has ever had. Unfortunately, it's only a couple weeks old.

It was just before I began my "detoxification" process. You can see the natural roots growing above the permed part. I had a 10cm trim right after I took this picture. Now I'm co-washing and making cassia, shea butter and argan oil treatments. It looks much better, but I still have a long way to go until waist lenght, healthy natural hair with no trace of perm and layers

Your hair looks better than my hair has ever looked in that photo, Leslie! :taz:

This is a great thread! I love all of the pictures. You guys have some lovely hair, I wish mine was like some of yours at it's "worst".

Here's one of me from when I was 16, in the late 80s. It was the only time in my life I ever colored my hair with box hair color (since then I have only used henna). It was growing out & all faded and 80s-teased within an inch of it's life:

Pretty color. My first thought is in this photo you look like Marie Osmond in her teen years

I hope it didn't turn out too big...
This is me a few years back with massive heat damage. I loved that fringe to death (and so did my straightener, quite literally), but I couldn't handle the curly layers flapping on my face. Middle part is so much easier!

It looks very shiny, i don't see much damage.

It does, but the strands felt like yarn and the frizz was unbelievable back then. I guess the picture is a bit deceiving. Might be the flashlight. :)
Oh and Stray, I love your outfit of choice in your picture.

Thank you. I liked sort of romantic/gothic style by that time :D
