Ask the past has some hilarious advice on many topics. Among them: hair.

http://askthepast.blogspot.com/2013/06/how-to-wash-your-hair-12th-century_10.html

I learned about the page when somebody shared the "How to impress ladies at a dance" post :>

Very, um, interesting! :) I would love to learn more...provided there are other ways to wash one's hair, of course.

Wow, Mary Magdalene is looking a little rough in that picture. Her head-hair is awesome, but what's up with the 5 o'clock shadow?

Hmmm. I wonder if lizard smells better than indigo. I want to do an experiment! :rollin:

@RavennaNight:
Would you please let me know if it is as permanent as indigo and smells better, if you try. ;)
I would also love to escape the indigo smell.

Not convinced (dead) lizard could possibly smell better than herbs, even if it is indigo we're talking about. :D
Medieval images are hilarious. Talk about adding long hair over a dude's face to turn him into a lady! ... Unless this is a side-effect of lizard potion...

Well, that would make for a bit of preparation! I also enjoyed reading about how to change a diaper on that site.

Thanks for the link - since I am WO or NW/SO I won't be trying the lizard treatment any time soon.

Sure do appreciate the entry on dancing - wish some of the guys at university had read it before the parties... (rolling eyes at horrendous memories) :)

Poor lizards. :( I'd also love to know who actually tried this back in the day.

Not to mention How to Garden With Lobsters.

Very nice, and awesome blog in general!

However, I think I would rather keep bleeding. (http://askthepast.blogspot.com/2013/05/how-to-stop-bleeding-1664.html)

If that's the Last Supper, some say that "she" might actually be John the Baptist!

No, actually it's Mary Magdalen in the desert, penitent and dressed only in her hair.

I'd also like to know what sowbread was!

The Trotula is a real medieval book, but I am seriously suspecting mistranslation from Latin here. Also, I've never seen a medieval picture of a woman look that rough before...

I'd also like to know what sowbread was!

Google tells me it's a wild cyclamen; pigs like to eat the roots, hence the name.
