Alternates to LoL ??

I know someone has decided to cut her hair off (gasp, I know ...) - but instead of just binning it, she wants to donate it somewhere ... is their a good alternative to LOL ??

If i was in the position where i thought my hair was good and long enough to be used, and wanted to cut short anyway.....i would sell the hair myself on ebay or something, then donate the money to a charity i knew for sure was reputable.

There are others. At least 3 are mentioned in this article (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/06/fashion/06locks.html?pagewanted=1&ei=5090&en=188afa9ebe572df0&ex=1346731200&adxnnl=1&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&adxnnlx=1219622604-VnTJjb30Yl42ihjieXSE0Q) that also talks about how Locks of Love receives many more donations than they can possibly handle, and what happens to the "extra" hair. Member heidi w. was interviewed for the article, and had linked it in another thread. Pantene's program looks promising, if only because it is likely to have the resources to staff the program well, but I haven't really looked into it.

Perhaps also talk to any hair dresser in the area that might know more about each organization? Perhaps contact Pantene to see where to donate hair, and as Chole said, selling it would get someone a lot of money. That might be another idea and use the money to donate to the charity of choice?

Wigs for Kids

Sorry, I don't have links offhand but those are three I can think of - do note, though, that any place that will take hair for wigs will NOT accept dyed/damaged/processed hair.

Hi, Ara. I notice you're in Manitoba -- is your friend, too? The Canadian Cancer Society takes donations at some local areas across Canada. Here is the list of places that accept donations on their behalf. (http://www.cancer.ca/Canada-wide/Support%20Services/Community%20services%20directory/Hair%20donations.aspx?sc_lang=en) Might be an option for her. :)
