What color is my hair?

I know that hair color looks different depending on lighting. I took this photo today, outside in bright sunlight. I don't color my hair in any way, so this is natural. I said I'm a redhead. A friend argued it was brown. My husband said "leave me out of this!"

What do you all think?

I say it's red, people often missundersntand "red hair" because they are so used to see dyed red hair that has a really deep color. Natural red is more subtle, and may look brown under certain lights, you are a redhead, brown hair does not look like that when under sunlight.

This is what i see too, and if I wouldn't call that red, I'd call it medium auburn. It definitely leans more towards red though! :agree:

I think sometimes people forget that hair comes in more colors than just flat blond, flat black, flat red, flat brown. :p

Hey just wanted to add, I'm not sure if I express myself right... in english there are so many words for "red hair" I'm not sure if I know the difference between them... what's the difference between red hair and auburn? There aren't many red haired people where I live and we only have one word for red hair, whether natural tones or not... so... yeah....


Anyways, I think your hair is a reddish medium brown, about level 7 (I hope I'm being more specific now, teehee) although I htink it'd be easier to tell after seeing it under other lights.

I'm ok with my hair color, though I always wished it was a little darker colored...so whether it's called brown or red it's staying this color anyway! I just wondered what the majority would call it :)

My daughter has a similar colour, we like to call it rainbow hair, because there are so many different colours in it :) she can see gold and silver and orange and brown in hers.... I call her a red hea, but I think if it is not a bright orangey red head red most people refer to it as auburn. She sometimes see auburn in her hair too - I should add she is 5 so it comes across as kind of cute when she finds some auburn in her hair.

I think it’s red. It might have been the indoor lighting that made your friend say it’s brown. It might have brown tones in it, but it defiantly has more red.

In my opinion, red!
Though mine had a red shine for a while due to colouring/henna but it was actually brown.
However I can see it is overall a nice shade of red :) if its natural lucky youuu!
