View Full Version : Hair typing help?

I thought I was a 1b/c M/C, but now I've started CO washing I wonder if I've typed my hair wrong. My hair seems a lot curlier and less coarse somehow - perhaps more of a 2a M? I'm really not sure how to classify it correctly.

Here are a couple of pictures. My hair is still short, but I think it's long enough to see the wave pattern etc. This is CO washed, air dried, no brushing, styling or products. I would really appreciate any input! When my hair was waist-length it NEVER looked like this. It was straight and frizzy. I know partly that will have been because of the weight of it, but I also wonder if I just treated it completely wrong!

Here it is, in all its bottom-of-a-placemat-coloured glory:

(You can see the 'hole' from growing out my pixie! It was ear-length when straight in March, so I'm pretty chuffed with the growth.)

Thanks for your time! :flowers:

Definitely at least 2a. Maybe 2b. Hard to tell m or coarse in a pic.

Thank you! Yes, of course it's hard to tell the texture from a pic, you're right. It looks coarser than it feels, anyway. But I'm thrilled to discover wurls!

You have beautiful hair btw :) And I love the fork in your siggy pic!

Your ends looks like mine when I let my hair air dry without brushing it. The ends look like 2b while the lenght is more 2a. You have beutiful hair and nice hair color.

You are definitely at least 2a, I don't think 1s get frizzy hair that is down to products/ techniques discouraging curl formation and clumping. Long hairs will tend to want to brush or comb to discourage tangling, but basically brushes are designed to separate strands, exactly what frizz is. Thank you all! I really appreciate your input :) Everyone here is so knowledgeable!

Firefox, I will check that group out, thank you! You have hit the nail on the head I think - I thought my hair was straight so I couldn't understand why doing things to make it straighter resulted in frizz and dullness and an all-around bad time. Now I know less is more when it comes to my hair :D
