Does anyone have long haired kids?

My daughter is just past classic and rapidly approaching mid-thigh length.

My little girl is 2 and her hair isn't particularly long but I am really hoping not to have to cut it - the baby hair/curls on the end are just so cute! But everyone looks at me weird when I say I don't want it to be cut and tell me 'well, it will have to be sooner or later'....what does that even mean? Is there an actual reason why I 'have' to get it cut, for the sake of the hair health/growth etc??
Sorry to hijack your thread but this bugs me :)

Your daughter has beautiful hair, how old is she? Does she have an opinion on her hair being long?

Your daughter's hair is so pretty!

My 10 year old dd is at about BCL. It was pushing TB a couple months ago, but I had to trim a good bit after a run in with lice. The treatments and combing caused major damage to her ends. :(

Her love of long hair is actually part of what inspired me to let mine grow. Ever since she was old enough to voice an opinion about it, she never wanted her hair cut.

My 4 year old DS has about MBL and does not want it cut. DD is about APL and does not want it cut either. I have no idea why you would "have" to get a kids hair cut unless they want it.

I posted a thread about my recent hair break through! My daughter is 3, her and her twin brother keep their hair long (but my son likes bangs and shoulder shaggy cuts best). I cut a lot of her hair off, we started her hair growth this year she's an inch from BSL!

Your daughter does not have to have her hair cut if you don't want it cut. My daughter just turned 5. She loves her long hair and I'm working on getting her to love her curly hair in a straight-hair world.

You don't have to cut it if you don't want to and she wants it long!

I cut it for several reasons like I posted in the other thread, but the first cut was done because both my kids were born with black fine hair. Then, suddenly, my daughter's hair got lighter and coarse like mine. It created horrible tangles, you could see a strand being baby fine and a mark where it just became super thick! So her hair was impossible to detangle. Then the other reasons happened.

But every time my hair is down, she sees it and says pretty. Recently she reached for a tangled fake hair thing at the store, signed that she liked it. So I know she likes long hair, so I'm keeping it long. I'm a trimmer myself so I'll probably trim hers when I trim mine to make sure it stays thick.

Does your girl like long hair? If she does, I don't see why she would ever need it chopped .

My DD wanted long hair, but she kept getting annoyed at having to take care of it. It escaped from everything I tried to contain it, and combing it was a PITA. She was so bothered by the upkeep that she demanded we get it cut shorter. It was MBL when we cut. It is now just past shoulder. She LOVES it. She can comb/brush it herself (she has her own tangle-teezer) and it's short enough that it can simply be left alone. Perhaps when she is older, long hair may work better. For right now (age 6) this works and she is happy.

My eldest daughter has beautiful waist length hair; she's 4 next week. I cut it into a bob when she was around 18 months to neaten it up (she had a baby fine mullet thing going on) and we've left it since then. The colour is just amazing! It looks highlighted as she has white gold streaks, ash brown sections and honey parts.. I've never seen such natural variation on one head. She clearly has decent hair genes, as she already has nearly my ponytail circumference and has lovely waves :D
My younger daughter has a crazy puff of white candyfloss for hair. She's only 2 and a half, so we are hoping that it becomes...ahem...hair soon. She sleeps on a silk pillowcase and still manages to look like Einstein in the morning.

My boys are 8 1/2 yrs with ringlets to the bottom of his rib cage, would be waist if straight and 11 yrs with straight hair to waist. Both have golden light brown hair. Nice thick with straight hemline. Women swoon over them. I adore them. My hubby man has just past shoulder length brown hair and growning. His was to waist in college. I love my long hair guys.

I don't have kids but if I ever have a daughter I'd like to have her hair long :) I think long hair on kids is so pretty.

My daughter is 8 and has elbow length curly, classic pulled straight. It was past mid calf straight, but her hair was so damaged and she went to several concerts knowing she would need a major cut if she wanted to headbang. Second night, she brought me the scissors and said to cut to elbows, as her hair was soft there, then all tangly lower. It's adorable now, and still crazy impressive when she spins her hair.

Wow, every girl in this thread has stunning hair. So lovely.
I used to have TBL hair when I has around 6 or 7, and I remember having crazy huge tangles and my mom ripping them out with a plastic brush :( When I have kids, if they want long hair, I hope I can care for it properly!

My dd is 10 and is at tbl. Ds is 3 and his ringlets stretch to his shoulder blades, and I just cut it for him (he asked because he doesn't like when it gets into his eyes). Dd has had 15" total taken off a few years ago....9" the first time, 5-6 the second time, then decided to let it grow again.

All the children in this thread have such beautiful hair!

My DD has decided she wants waist length hair. Her bio mum has never let her have it long before, so we're both pretty excited!

My son had close to APL last year and then we cut it in the fall. He wasn't taking care of it and DH didn't have the patience (DS was 8 at the time). We told him he could grow it again when a little older if he wants to. He seems to want to. Right now his hair is in a faux hawk cut and he seems to like it and can certainly manage it better (style it himself, etc.).

Awwh this makes me so nostalgic... When I was a little girl, I had hair almost long enough to sit on. My mom's sisters and my grandmother all love short hair, so one day they pressured me to go have 'fun' with them at the hair salon to get a 'cute' new hair cut. I liked the idea... until I came home and realized I went from butt-length to shoulder-length; the shock put me in tears. :(
Since then, I've had hair as short as my chin, but it's never satisfied... I want to be like these adorable girls again!

My dd is 8 and has thigh-length when straight (not sure, might be close to mid-thigh now when wet) and nearing classic when curly. She commented today that it was just getting long enough to sit on it when it is down...which it is hardly ever completely down, so no issues from it. She has really thick hair and never leaves the house without getting comments/compliments on her hair. She washes it herself (mostly CO, but adding in some shampoo on the scalp now as she has more scalp issues now) and is now able to comb it out herself (I was able to french braid it today from her comb-out, so great job!) and can do ponytails and is beginning to experiment at fixing it herself, but I usually braid and fix it for her.

She has long hair because she wants it. She loves it and I grew mine as long as I did over the past 4 years because I was growing with her (I made it past classic before going back to waist due to how thin my ends were compared to hers...she gets *all* the compliments LOL). I'll try to get some pics up sometime.

No long haired babies of my own, but found this this morning: http://thechive.com/2013/08/12/kids-notes-are-absolutely-priceless-30-photos/kids-notes-funny-bizarre-27/
Not a huge fan of thehive myself, it's pretty full of junk, but there are some gems from time to time.

My wife and kids all have long hair. DD16 once had it cut back to her shoulders and regretted it even before she left the salon. DS20 went short and spiky when he was 8 and grew it back starting when he was 12.

ETA: None of us really has hair any longer than waist, though.

My four year old son. He's so often mistaken for a girl that we've stopped correcting people. The first pic shows his waves and dry length. When it's wet it's well between his shoulder blades. The second pic is of some of the ringlets that hide up under that wavy crown.
