From the website Retronaut (I checked the posting rules and think it's OK to post links to photos on other websites? Please remove if I'm wrong!)

There are lots more on the site but no link to the main "capsule". If you go to http://www.retronaut.com/ search for "c1900. Hair of the Seven Sutherland Sisters" (plus it's a fab website with lots of other goodies!):D

Just noticed at the bottom of Retronat's capsules that these photos are from the following website:

http://www.angelfire.com/art/rapunzellonghair/rapunzellonghairarchive/portrait4.htm

This also gives more info on each sister and her hair length etc.

Oh, how cool is THAT. :D I wonder what their hair routines were, not having the modern resources we do...

Wow, and what interesting stories they all have as performers, as well! Glad to know that there's more to these ladies than their locks. :p

Very interesting. I wonder what was in their "hair tonic" that the site claims they were promoting.

Maybe that is one reason for their long hair - probably no frequent washes, no modern shampoos and conditioners, no gels/mousses, no blow dryers, no perms, and probably almost always wearing it up (with no elastics)... :p

Benign neglect in a nutshell! (I am guessing of course...)

Anyway, yes, it is really amazing, thanks for posting! :)

Wow, what lovely hair. I would love to see the updos they wore.

Wow, I'm envious! If only I could care that much hair, I would. And I love the fact that most ladies in the past have such gorgeous long wavy/curly hair such as mine. Makes me appreciate my hair more. :)

This site has ingredients for 2 of their products, the hair wash and the hair grower - http://www.hairraisingstories.com/Proprietors/SUTHERLAND.html

Yeah, but the hair's impressive even for the time, clearly (since they got so famous for it) and nobody else had blowdryers, perms, etc. then either.
I suspect some VERY good genetics had something to do with it.
Look how thick their hair is, as well as being so long.
Lovely.
