At the Fourth of July barbeque I attended last night a friend of mine told me about a friends of hers who happened to make hair accessories as well as other wooden crafts. These look so nice. I do wish she made them in longer lengths. But don't take my word for it, check out her shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/DizzyRabbitWorks?ref=top_trail)!

Yet another incarnation of Etta Mae aka Delshire Woods. Not good experiences from many members here.

At least with etsy, you get a supposedly real name.

Who is this vendor, and why the notoriety? I've tried googling for previous LHC threads, but the only results I find lead to the swap board, rather than to stories of direct dealings.

I'd like to know too!

I found this: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/archive/index.php/t-11004.html and this http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/archive/index.php/t-44968.html

There are even more threads in the archives. You just have to Google "Long Hair Community Etta Mae." Using Google with the name of the forum along with your search topic works much better than the search function for the site.

OhioLisa, thank you for that link. I had been back and forth on the subject for a while as the only issue I could find was the group order (which was apparently later admitted to as poor judgement by the vendor, though it was handled very poorly), but the account-skipping is shady to me, and the potential theft due to lack of communication and deactivation of accounts after orders being made is a HUGE red flag =/

So, I met the owner of DizzyRabbit Workshop tonight. She knows her work looks like Etta Mae. They used to be roommates and did woodworking together and she makes her own work. I got to play with some of her forks and they are short for me, but she's done longer (one fork with 7" FPL she said was her longest, so she's pretty sure she can accommodate my hair needs. Each of the three I examined (two tulip wood one hickory wood) were very smooth all around inside and outside the tines. The tips were very pointy but also well rounded and seemed pretty well snag-less. The gorgeous bumps on the outside of the tines on some of these are as smooth a transition as I think possible.

It will be a while before I get one, but we are going to have a fork made custom for me around new year, but I need to choose the wood before I get my price quote. She was suggesting tulip wood, lignum vitae or cherry for the tight grain (ergo smoother finish), but I want to know what types of wood you guys would pair with my hair color? I usually cannot afford custom things, so I want to make this something I prize and use often.

I thought so.
I can't shake the feeling Bob was misled about the business partnership.

Yes, it seems that way... I read the Etsy page, and it seems that Delshire is in charge of inlays, so anything with an inlay should be her domain... it also seemed that she does not do the turning of the wood.

PrincessBob, would you care to look at the photos on the owners page and let us know which woman you conversed with? I'm just curious...

Christina, the red head. Now in favor of owning whatever fault may be mine, I was talking to her at a party, and my faculties were a bit wine softened, so I may have misunderstood what she was saying regarding Etta Mae.

However, anybody who is wary based on their past experiences, or the experiences they have heard others have had, is nervous or uncomfortable with the idea of trying to do business with DRW/Artemis Woods, should probably trust their intuition.

I am still planning to work with Christina and have one made, because the quality of the work I have held in my hand and her overall positive attitude. I figure since they are passionate enough about their work to keep on with it, I can give what is now a local business a try.

I have been burned by vendors, myself, in the past and I know the feeling of it. There is a corset vendor that I would not recommend unless you found an off the rack corset of theirs that fit you, because after a year and a half of waiting on a custom order, getting told time after time that something went wrong (misplaced their book of custom order information, then my receipt, then my size notes, then no fabric, then 6 months radio silence) I received one that didn't fit me at all.

So do believe that I understand what Caveat Emptor means, very, very well.

Cool, so you were talking to the one that is not "Etta Mae." I cannot wait to see what she comes up with for your special order. :flower:
