I would like to thank all of you here at LHC for the support and advice I have received. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! :)

I first joined in December 2011. I cut my hair into a pixie so that I could start with a clean slate. I cut it on a whim. If I had really thought about it, I wouldn't have wanted to go through the awkward growing out process from a pixie.

For my wedding in June of 2012, I had virgin shoulder length hair!

Although I was happy with the length, color, and condition of my hair I was disappointed in how it was styled. The stylist ripped and pulled at it as she heat styled it. I could hear my hair breaking as she brushed through it and blowfried it. As a result, I decided to have a post-wedding chop. I ended up with chin length hair. I'm sure it could have been easily babied back to health, but I was feeling a need to switch things up. I also had some highlights put in which I HATED.

Honestly, I don't know what I was thinking! This picture is from July, 3 weeks or so since I had cut it to chin length. My one year of LHC growth started here

Shortly after I decided to try henna. I began with Light Mountain.
This is August 2012:

I then used one application of Henna Sooq's Lush Brown Kit. After that it was straight Red Raj and regular Raj from Henna Sooq. The technique I use to apply henna, recipes, time between applications varies but I always use BAQ henna.

This is at about 7 months of growth from my starting point, January 2013:

I was very pleased at my growth. So happy to have reached shoulder again! :)

And here is my growth as of now:

Some things I do differently now are sleeping on a satin pillowcase, combing and not brushing, oiling, wearing my hair in braids and hair sticks, using gentle sulfate free shampoo, washing less often, the list goes on! I learn new things all the time thanks to all of you!

I still struggle with some things. For the past month, since I graduated college I've been working in a restaurant and i am required to wear a baseball cap. I asked for the largest size in hopes that it would be loose and I could wear some sort of protective covering. Unfortunately it's so tight! I must have a large head :p. I can wear a wide headband, the stretchy soft kind, but I still see a lot of damage from it. Any advice is welcome! The other issue is that the cap comes down very low on my head. I can't wear hair sticks or a claw clip at all. i can do spin pin buns (sort of). For the most part I'm stuck with low braids and ponytails tied off with an elastic. I hope that I can find a career job soon where I won't have these issues.

My goal is to be at waist length. I'm not sure how long it will take. Maybe by December of 2014?! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. :p

Again, thank you all for your helpful advice! :)

Wow, your hair looks great, I love the colour. Your hair is the same length as mine, but my hair was shoulder length in july 2012, so yours grows so much faster!

Your hair is very pretty. It looks quite a bit thicker now than it did on your wedding. Congratulations on your one year of growth!

Thank you! I think you're right. I don't pay much attention to thickness, so I couldn't say how much thicker it is. It is probably due to only having a couple of layers now rather than the grown out pixie layers. I'm glad to be rid of those!

Your hair is so pretty. I love your hair at your wedding and what I can see of your dress its lovely. I also have to wear a baseball cap at work which I hate.

Thank you! Do you have any tips to avoid damage? I tried cutting out the netting in the hat that gives it shape. It fits looser but still feels damaging.

Wow, march_sun, your hair looks fantastic!!

Regarding the hat, is it possible to line the inside with satin?
