oh this looks like fun, though my hair hasn't really changed all that much, besides the colour lol

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1002&d=1356041488 May 2012 ish I think / Right around hip

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=307&d=1353798725 November 2012 / Still around hip but in much better condition

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4494&d=1369598817 May 2013 / BCL-ish

I have gained a bit of length (from right above hip to a few inches away from TBL) but the biggest change has been to its condition, as my hair is now shiny, smoother and not dry at the ends c:

Great thread! :D

My journey

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4928&d=1371891917

The first pic was taken before I joined LHC. I hated that my hair was thin and very demaged.
The second is my hair typing pic.
On the last pic my hair is shorter because I cut back to classic last month.
It isn't much longer now than at the beginning of the journey but the quality and the thicknesse has improved.

How fun!

Here is after my hair grew out of a chin length bob and I was too lazy to go to the salon so it started growing out...
http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc370/kidari4/IMG_4399.jpg

my horrible self-cut layers and this was a bit after joining LHC:
http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc370/kidari4/IMG_8492-1.jpg

reached waist for the first time:
http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc370/kidari4/IMG_0007-1.jpg

reached waist two more times after a couple chops:
http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc370/kidari4/IMG_8829-1.jpg

http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc370/kidari4/IMG_1160_zps2ae2901a.jpg

in this picture it was after heavily thinning out my ends, because my hair felt too thick and heavy
http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc370/kidari4/IMG_1472_zps6d1ddd29.jpg

I chopped back to almost BSL again, I don't know how many times I've done that but this time I am planning on maintaining here until I grow out all my layers and then try for hip for the first time ever. I am so sorry for the tiny pictures and the huge pictures! It's crazy because the main differences basically is the gain in thickness and my improvement in self-haircutting/layering skills. I had stopped a ton of bad/damaging hair practices long before joining here so the gain in quality was already there for a while. I had chopped off all my hair into ear length and maintained at chin length for 2 years prior to joining LHC all while practicing no heat/bleach/etc. type of hair care. I feel like I've gone from straight to more wavy in the past several years also.

Nice thread idea! I originally started growing my hair in October 2009 when it was about chin length, but I don't have any pictures from then..so these will have to do. :p

Well, I think I've learned my lesson, at least. No more hair cutting! Geez. My hair grows so slowly, anyway. My goal is to get to hip unstretched. The longest I've gotten as a wavy is waist, and I'm a few inches from there now. So... I should hit hip in about 6 inches. I have no idea how long that will take. Definitely over a year. :( Probably more like 4 with my growth rate...

Yup, not true!

I was told the same thing and had my hair short from 50-61 when MY silver came in....thinking I HAD to

It was because I was struggling with 2 textures (fine/curly silver and med/wavy tawny under the silver in back) that I came to LHC for help, and support as I wondered about going longer again.

Have her join....so many have done it :cheer:

Wooow! Fabulous journeys, what amazing progress!

Groovy Granny you know I'm always a fan of your hair; I didn't realise before though that *you* are equally pretty!

Tinyponies that seems very quick growth! Beautiful! May I ask, have you done a hairtyping pic (airdried, untouched)? 1c/2a seems to describe your second picture but presumably that's brushed/combed? Your first pic, unless you'd curled your hair, makes me think you probably still have more texture than 1c/2a. Either way, it's very pretty :D

SwanFeathers Great growth, and I love your hemline.

Sparkles122 that's quite the journey! I'm glad you're with us for growing out this time round :)

I'll start with 2014- I had just recently graduated my Catholic high school where we had to maintain a "God given" hair color. Up until this point I had waist length hair that I took decent care of (back then I actually browsed the LHC quite a bit but never made an account). Once I had the freedom to experiment, I went WILD. I dyed my hair nearly every shade of the rainbow....purple, neon green, dark green, various blues...I also shaved in a severe undercut. This phase lasted until about 2016.
https://i.postimg.cc/QMqD1m6s/IMG-2036.jpg
Unfortunately I couldn't find any photos that showcased my hair from 2016. It was at this point I decided to grow out my undercut. I cut my hair into a chin length bob and dyed it jet black (such a mistake...) I maintained my hair between shoulder and chin length during this time as I let my undercut grow out enough to blend in with my hair. I got sick of the black hair very quickly and attempted to bleach it in all one go. I spent the majority of 2017 trying to mend my poor hair

In 2017 I was mainly focused on gaining length and keeping what hair I had in good condition. I basically just let it grow and didn't do much fancy with it. I left the color alone for the most part although I did indulge in another red box dye treatment.
https://i.postimg.cc/DyVbCyvZ/IMG-2043.jpg
2018 was when I finally started having hair I felt I could take pride in. It was long enough I could style it how I liked and the color started looking a lot better. I started using hair sticks this year, as well as using more protective styles. I also joined the LHC!
https://i.postimg.cc/cJsx9C5Q/IMG-2051.jpg
And finally, 2019 :D I switched from box dyes to henna, and am letting my roots grow in for a while. My hair is in the best condition it's ever been in, and feels like it's growing in leaps and bounds. I found a wash routine that works for me as well as daily styling techniques that are simple and effective. I'm super excited to keep growing :D

LOL I was Catholic School Grad as well....decades ago in the late 60's :p

I had long hair, but our fashion statements outside of our uniforms were body shirts and no bras, mini skirts with tall boots, and bell bottom hip huggers with suede braided/long tasseled belts :rockerdud

That is quite the cool psychedelic hair journey for you ;) .......and cute Corgi!

I haven't explored for journals but I will look for yours Amaryllis!
I dug up a few pics, hopefully I can get them in the right order...
This is my old hair I am trying to get back to but virgin(or maybe longer thanks lhc-itis)

Both of these pics are October 2015. Sorry for the dumb censored faces but it probably was better than ultra cropping everything :)

May 2016 compact cut. This was dye over bleach. Badly damaged despite loking rather shiny.

June 2016 Dye has faded so much for one month(it could have been the sun-in days, not sure)

October 2016 probably BSL or midback and much lighter still.

May 2017 sometime shortly after a chop to chin. All bleach cut out except for the very front tips.

Sept 2017 Shoulder length plus

Amazing journey pictures everyone, apologies I don’t comment individually more often, I’m so easily overwhelmed.

MusicalSpoons I’m so literal at times - I got excited by the title of this thread and dug out one of the oldest photos I have of this particular hair journey and the latest  As you can see that was ohh the long awkward phase, after growing out my buzz cut...

My hair might well be a little curlier, at least at shorter lengths. I haven’t actually done a proper typing picture as I was happy and transitioned onto wo by the time I realised. :)

Here’s a good one from around the same time, I only took it to showcase why I hated to wash my hair, and had no idea. Now looking at it I see what it could be trying to do. (Aww!) Thanks for the prompt to take a new look.

Not manipulated but slept on:

You can see how dry and misunderstood it was, poor hair. And most of that is now my ends. I had no idea whatsoever and thought that just because it grew out of my head without dyes or heat styling that would be enough for it to get long and healthy.

Great thread! Very inspiring to see everyone's progress. :)

This is my very first LHC length shot. I have dyed my hair with Henna and chopped it off tho Shoulder length back in 2013.

This is my hair at it's longest, before my next big chop, in year 2016.

Then i Chopped it all off to a layered bob (still think it was a Great style for me personally and do not regret it at all)

then i cut even Shorter and dyed my hair dark brown, before i decided to come back to LHC and start growing again. It was in 2017, august

And this is my latest hair picture, my natural color almost grown out, my hair near APL:

It seems like it grows fast when looking back sparkles, but when you're in the moment it feels like forever!
Tiny ponies and stray mind you both seem to grow fast as well! Stray I love the layered bob and your necklace in that pic. :)

The necklace has been with me for around 10 years probably. It got complimented by a sailor in Turkey once as well hahaha. :)

Stray, seems like retyping a bit wavier/curlier is often a thing around here, can see milosmomma’s waves’ evolution too. I know vpatt just had a rethink too. And I thought it didn’t apply to me at all. Very cool :)

ETA I don’t think my hair grows fast, spot on about average I think. I had only two small trims in all that time and also stalled a bit around bsl due to ends breaking off!

Thank you! Wish I had a picture of my buzz cut but I never thought of taking one.

A long time ago in a fit of temporary insanity, I had my hair buzz cut. It looked cute after it grew out a bit, but I will never, ever do that again.

What a great thread! I love it. Everyone has such inspirational pics to share.

My pictures would be like watching a film in reverse... hair gets shorter and shorter. :p But maybe someday I will have some pics to contribute.

Ha! That really says it all - I did it after chopping off my tbl knotty fairy locks. Figured it’s now or never, I wanted to know what it felt like. I shaved again a good few times over the course of maybe a year. Now I know and happy to say “never again” :)

Cleaning my head with a washcloth in the shower was fun, also seeing all my cowlicks helped with understanding my hair. But damn, I felt shock at just how much of my confidence came from my long hair that I had been so proud of.

Aww thank you <3 It's amazing how badly I treated my long hair in the past and that I even reached hip at all so I'm not surprised I ruined my waves  It's a learning journey as well as growing.
Lottiealice amazing progress, usually after a stall comes a growth spurt. Got my fingers crossed for you :)

I actually started my journey in 2015. Chopping from mbl to apl but I told myself to neglect it for as long as possible. So I don't have any photos from the exact start..Kinda sad about that now, but the year of growth did go by faster that way.

The 2016 pic looks like butt because it was pre lhc hair photo expertise :p

Thanks! The shine is just a trick of the lighting and camera. I'm standing directing under a big ceiling light.

Very nice. Your hair looks very healthy. How long did it take to get to all one length from when you first started growing it? I know that stage can be frustrating for those trying to grow their hair out.
