Hi, I'm really curious in partially dyeing my hair black, I would like to use a semi permanent color...
but

I am a little bit intimidated by the black, since I don't plan on continually dyeing my hair.
Would a semi permanent BLACK wash out?
I know colors do, but black is... you know black. Hahaha.

My hair color is maybe like a medium brown?
Not quite sure.
It's not dark brown, but it's not light brown.

I thought you guys might have some good advice, thank you~

Semi black would hold a bit longer than semi... pink or something, but its no permanent black. I'd go Manic Panic Raven if we're talking something that washes out faster, and Special Effects if you like a longer non permanent black.

Stylist here! Do NOT use anything that requires developer. Basically if you have to mix it, don't use that. Black colour is notorious for its sticking ability, but manic panic or a similar vegetable dye should be pretty safe if your hair is not very porous. If you have previous damage, especially from chemical treatment, I would be more weary, as those deposit only products stick much better to porous hair.

If your hair is virgin/ healthy it may not take that well at all. Surprisingly some semi permanent colours (eg. Manic Panic Atomic Pink) are legendary for being virtually permanent once they take. Best thing is to research the specific colour you choose - not all pinks or all blacks fade the same - and run strand tests on shed plughole hair.

I used a semi-permanent nearly black dye on light brown hair and I had to cut it out. It would not shift no matter what I did. Many people I've known have had similar experiences. My hair was not in terrible condition either. My advice would be to use one of the one wash dyes, which just last until you wash your hair next.

Yeah, I've never done anything to my hair so it's virgin, I guess. x3

I take really good care of it, and it's in really good condition.
I'm just curious about trying something new~

but I'm a bit afraid!
