Hi everyone. :D

I haven't posted in a long while, I've been a lurker lately. :p But I have a few questions about my hair color that I would like some help with.

I joined in late 2010. I was still dying my hair at that time (always darker never lightened) with usually either a semi or Demi type dyes. Then I went to my stylist and she used a regular/permanent dye (again darker) then I went back to using semi or Demi type dyes on an irregular basis....

Now, I haven't dyed my hair at all in over a year and a half and I would like some help on figuring out what color my hair actually is....

Here are some pictures... (Don't mind the frizz my hair air dried and has been giving me a fit...thanks humidity )

and I'm sorry these pictures are big I can't figure out how to re-size them...

This is natural light no flash: The top looks two colors here but in real life it doesn't

My hair doesn't look two obvious colors when I look at it...It has no severe demarcation lines... the ends are a darker but not by a whole, whole lot...more like a reverse ombre effect.

So what color would you call my hair?

Thanks all

I'd call it a medium brown. Your new growth doesn't seem reddish to me. Is that your natural colour?

Your length is indeed auburn toned

cranberrymoonz yes the top 12+ inches or so is all my natural color now ( grays and all ) I know in the first picture the growth looks two colors but that's just the light I guess, it's all one color for about 12 inches then gets a darker reddish color where the old color is. The last picture kind of shows where it starts.

My hair did carry a lot of natural red (never bright or deep, but very stubborn to remove) when I was younger.. but looks to be changing as I get older. I think the red is slowly disappearing and that makes me kind of sad.

I think I'd call it light brown. It's got tones in it that I don't tend to associate with dark blond hair (and I consider those to overlap considerably rather than be on the same spectrum).

I know what you're saying about having auburn tones when you were younger. Mine was on the cusp of red/auburn well into my 20s, now I'm still trying to convince myself it's not just brown. I wish reds didn't fade in so many of us with age!

I hated my red when I was younger because I wanted to be blonde and my stubborn red made it all but impossible but now that it's going away, I'm missing it. lol Like they say, don't know what you got till it's gone.

Interesting how in the first picture the very top looks like some shade of ash, but below that and in other pictures, it looks light auburn to me. There's just a touch of red.

That's the problem I was having trying to figure out what to call my color. I've always had more golden/reddish tones to my hair and the one time (YEARS ago) it was dyed with more of an ash tone, it looked horrible and somewhat green. So I always assumed it was a golden undertone to it, and the red was ALWAYS there.

But now the grays are growing in the red is fading and some other color is starting to dominate.

I would like to dye it again but I really want to know my starting point/color.

I wanted to go to a salon and ask them but was afraid they would think I was nuts just walking in and asking "what color is my hair"? lol

Me too! I still feel like a redhead, even if my natural color isn't anymore. (Yay for henna!!!)

O.P. I think your hair looks golden brown. :)

I think it's light brown or dark blonde...

It looks to be a light brown with predominantly warm tones but also a few cool tones mixed in. Very Pretty.

I'd call it light warm brown. I know what you mean about having red tones without really being auburn -- my hair is like that too. An upside to that, at least for me, is that auburn dyes did not fade on my hair as fast as on most people's. (But I don't dye anymore because it's just too much hassle.)
