View Full Version : I have an idea, which may be silly, but... Bun Reference List?

So! I had a thought today whilst I was fighting with youtube looking for buns that I'd be able to manage. I couldn't find anything similar by searching, but if I've overlooked something please let me know. My idea is, in its basic form, a list of buns.

More specifically, buns we refer to often here, perhaps listed with a link to a tutorial, and broken up into categories; braided buns, stick buns, etc. So a Chinese bun would be listed under both braided and stick, for example, because it utilises both, a Pha would be under stick buns... That kind of thing. Also, it could have some great input from you awesome lot here on what length and thickness y'all could do a specific bun at, to help anyone looking along.

Anyone else think this would be useful? It's something I know I'd like to have, but if I'm being a silly goose I wouldn't want to clutter up the forums with it, so I thought I'd put the idea out there and get some feedback!

I think this kind of already exists, look at these:

And there was a long hair updo dictionary, but I've lost the link. :(

You're totally right, I love that site! It's great for sifting through lots of styles, and probably a better reference than I'd be able to compile. But what I'd really like to do is break each of the buns down into categories as well as by name, so people looking for say, buns they can do with a stick or a fork could pop in and find a list of them, with some clues as to what lengths and thicknesses they tend to start being viable at. It's always something I can put together just for my own reference though =] I just thought I'd throw it out and see if anyone else thought it'd be a good idea.

I was just about to ask this as well. I think there's a thread on this already so can someone pretty please bump it up!

Sylvestrix

I did think it must be one of those ideas that must already be out there, but I couldn't find it! So I second the request for a bump if there is something to bump =]

It would be even better if it had a picture for each bun. Sometimes I'm looking for a particular "look," and even given a list, it can be tedious to click every link just to see what it looks like in the end.

In other words, I agree with your idea. :agree:

=D Woo! That's a great idea- and the pictures could link to the tutorials! Points for genius. My bun repertoire is fairly meager at the moment, so this would be an awesome opportunity to gently persuade -cough-bug-cough- others into sharing their pictures, it would end up like a big collaborative database!

Me too!

Yay! I think this could be a workable idea, certainly with a little help from the awesome people here.

Thanks so much! I think my brain has just thrown a tantrum at me for being nowhere near this organised and resourceful- it's in a huff xD You're properly amazing. Would it be alright with you if I inserted some of your pictures? I'd love to make a visual reference, and whilst I have a measly handful of my own pictures, they come nowhere near to fleshing out your fabulous list!

Sure you can use my example pictures. I'd also suggest looking through the bun and braid picture threads for examples and asking those folks to include their pictures. Other sources of inspiration and examples are the hair style of the month threads. One of my long term plans was to add links to the hair style of the month threads where applicable but I don't think I got around to it.

thread hijack--I'm hunting for the length reference hairstyles. The list of possible hairstyles you can do as your hair grows? I think I've seen it, but am inept at searching through the archives. My hair has never been this long, and I'm entering uncharted territory. Why re-invent the wheel, eh?
