View Full Version : Hair experiment late at night, oh boy...... Do you do this too ?

Do you do weird stuff to your hair when you should be sleeping ? If so, what ?

I should most definitely be asleep, but instead I decided it would be a FANTASTIC time to try out these bendable curlers I found in the back of my closet. I'm either going to look like a short, chubby supermodel - or a poodle.
No matter what, it won't be as bad as last time, trimming your bangs at 3am is a BAD idea.....

I'm just waiting to take these out, they didn't come with instructions so I have no idea how long to leave them in for.

*** Pretty sure this last one is the result of my cough syrup with codeine, lol, I've been taking it at night for the last 6 days. It's supposed to make me sleepy but instead I feel like I could clean my whole house while juggling.

I was to have been asleep last night when I figured out how to make a no-tease, no-form beehive on hip long hair. In my sleepy delirium I kept doing it over and over to remember what I did to the point I made my hair dirty enough to wash three days early. All that massaging of the scalp just gave me the mega greasies.

And what am I doing right now that I'm supposed to be going to bed? Figuring out the faux hawk I was trying to figure out last night to begin with! Some people like to play with make up before washing their faces. I wind up playing with hair styles when I should be braiding and going to bed.

The most adventurous I ever get at night is practicing my french braiding. Please post some photos of the results when you have them!

This was fun, I look a bit goofy but it's not too bad. I am curious what I should do next time. Leave them in a shorter amount of time ? Wrap them differently ? Larger sections ?

Ah yes, for some reason midnight and beyond is always the best time to start a big new project or attempt to clean the whole house or do something weird with my hair or makeup. Its good to know I'm not the only one :)

I bet larger sections and less time would give nice volume without crazy curls :)

Late at night I do deep treatments or I trim my hair... the only consolation is at least I've gotten better at it and I have realized I like my hair between APL and MBL the best anyway plus my hair is always shiny and soft from all the treatments. I have seen people use those foam rollers on completely dry hair and it still sets their hair- they leave them on overnight though and I don't know how they even sleep because they are so uncomfortable. They sell those rollers in much larger sizes but it's hard to keep them in since they are so heavy I use a medium-ish claw clip to hold it in place. You could maybe try larger sections and roll them all vertically and avoid rolling the top part of your head going backwards? On my hair I roll on the length and leave the top flat and only roll vertically going away from my face. I pretty much hate the foam bendy rollers lol... it works if you have an event to go to and you have a few hours to get ready. It sets the hair really strong in not that long of time. I recommend to anyone the "Wrap Snap and Go Comfort Rollers" they are much easier to sleep in.

Well I did once decide I hated my over dyed hair and ended up thinking it would be a good idea to shave it all off at 3 am! Then woke up in the morning and thought 'oh please God let it be a dream!'

And now that it's 7:30am and I have to be awake, I no longer feel like the juggling speed cleaner of last night. Now I feel like one of those videos of kittens, puppies or toddlers randomly falling asleep in their food. Ugh.

ha ha!! I know exactly what you mean. I've worked night fill for the past 9 years so I've definitely done some crazy thing after midnight thinking it was a good idea. I've also studied during the day so that eats up a lot of time, and for some reason doing crazy things like a full head S&D which takes HOURS is a good idea, even if I have to get up early the next day.

I'd try misting water on it to tame it next time try bigger sections check them so often to see how well they're curling.

You can also try *smaller* sections and go for curlier hair. :D

I actually thought the type of curls you ended up with looked like they had great potential if you want to try a soft, wavy-curly retro-ish look... I sometimes pin curl my hair, and what I do with it after I've curled it is brush it gently (I know, brushing curls sounds counterintuitive, but combing doesn't work as well for me) and then reshape the curls with my fingers, twirling the hair. The curls have to have very good hold, though, so that they'll "bounce back" when I try to reshape them instead of just straightening out during the brushing, so I either have to curl my hair when it's damp and wait until it's dry, or wait quite a while before I take them out (or use product, I guess, but I prefer not to, and I'm not sure it'd give me the type of hold I'd need anyway). :)

ETA: It's possible that this method wouldn't have worked with your curls, depending on how long you kept the curlers in... you might have had to keep them in for longer for this to work.

Thanks, Everyone !!!!! I enjoyed each & every response.

I didn't do anything to my hair tonight & I even managed to talk myself out of a completely rediculous idea : I decided that 1am would be the perfect time to retouch my permanent eyeliner. (I'm a professional permanent makeup artist.) I was getting everything set up when it dawned on me that I would only get one eye done, end up tired & go to bed without finishing the other eye. Now THAT would have made an interesting photo !

Those curls are impressive! I always end up with a sort of vague kink and that's it....

Codeine has the same effect on me, which is not so great when I am sick and need to rest, but it's great for my house.

Super cute! I think you might have made your left side curls a little tighter than your right side. I am amazed you can tattoo your own eyeliner!! Even though you are a professional, I would think doing your self would be difficult.

It's not difficult, but it's time consuming and I get impatient. I'm much more efficient time wise when working on clients.

I've not done anything permanent or radical, but my very best updo styles are done at night, right before bed, when I decide to try something new. It looks so great, but cannot be reproduced in daylight. How sad is that? ;)
