Very excited! I made this appointment 2 months ago, the day is finally here! My last trim was in early November, 2012. I plan on my next trim being in the November/December 2013 range. I am asking for at trim of 1" or less, and then we're going to dip-dye the last 3" or so of my hair. I have not fully settled on a color yet, I'm going to talk to my stylist about what she thinks would look best. I do know I do NOT want any color in the blue or green color spectrum. I did that once and it faded to an awful seaweed color that I could NOT get rid of. My hair loves to hold onto color, so I want something that will fade into a somewhat tolerable shade.

Pics to come later today! I took a pic this morning after detangling my hair and will take more pics after the appointment.

Wish me luck! (Should be fine, my stylist is fantastic!):D

(Time passes...)

Here are the pics!

So, my stylist and I decided to use a little bleach. This was the first thing she did when I got there, apply the bleach. It was on the ends less than 5 minutes, she only left it on long enough to start lifting the color. I could see that the ends were not altered much after she washed out the bleach. After the bleach she washed, conditioned, and combed my hair. Once combed, she went ahead and trimmed the ends. Overall, about 1" (maybe less) was trimmed away.

Next, she dried the ends of my hair. Once the ends were dry she applied the color. After the color had set, she rinsed the ends and dried my hair.

She told me that she "smooshed" the bleach in, so that it would look less harsh and that any fading of the color would end up leaving a natural-looking ombre-lighted effect. No demarcation line. The color was also smooshed in, for the same reasons. A less harsh demarcation line, and more varigated color uptake. I really like the effect. In the sun it looks almost like the ends of my hair are on fire. It's interesting and pretty.

Pics!

The color she used was Pravana Vivids in Wild Orchid. I'm going to buy some and DIY the ends when the color fades.

Thanks for looking!

Oh, yay. I'm looking forward to pictures. Dip-dyed ends can look fabulous. I'm fairly sure that when I reach my goal length I will want to experiment with colour at the tips. It really is too bad about the seaweed thing though, I'm sure green would look fantastic in your hair.

Good luck and have fun then.

I love the color you chose! It looks very nicely done and your ends don't seem to have suffered.
