Hello everyone and welcome to the hairstyle of the month for May 2013! This month's style is:

Double Braids / Pigtails

How do you prefer to wear two braids? French? Dutch? English? Do you do anything with the two braids after you've made them? Showcase your 'dos!

Here's mine! Hair's a little greasy in the back, so I threw on a pretty bandanna, too. Looks nice, kinda like a gypsy.

(Edit: Dang that pic is huge. Anyone know how to make it smaller?)

I didn't do these in May. They are older, but I'm posting them anyway!

6-strand pigtails made in the cheaty way (making 3-strand and then looping another 3-strand through the loops of the first one).

And I guess this suits the theme aswell. Corset braids aka. two dutch braids with a lace through the loops.

I LOVE twin braids. In some weird way it make it more difficult to do the english version of them. The braiding is easy, of course, but they turn out in funny angels no matter how I try keep them backward. I love duch and french pigtails. Here is some old photo of them. maybe I will do some more in this month and add them later to this thread.

And I love to put them in chinese bun. It actually my signature now.

When I just join to LHC I start do a pre wash treatment. I oil my hair and then put it up like this. Now I too lazy for that. I do CWC instead.

I actually get to contribute! Yeah! Currently my hair is about 2" from hip, maybe a little less. Thickness is a iii, type 2a/b although it curls a lot more when shorter.

OK! This month is easy! You can really showcase the length here! I would suggest putting hair into very high ponytail then splitting it in two and braiding both sections.

my hair does not like tight braids - they give me headaches! But perhaps I can coax it into two loose ones, although it is like herding cats to get three strands to behave and play nicely with each other unless my hair is soaking wet, with all the curls grabbing each other and the layers popping out of the braids...

...nevermind. Just describing the process has reminded me how much I dislike braiding my hair... :)

Two English braids, one wrapped around back, one around the front, for a super fast, and super lazy, crown braid, suitable for the office. Ignore the bad placement of spin pins... Jeez, need to work on that!

Hypersensitive - I love that braid ponytail! I put my daughters hair in a very similar style often.

Thanks! I technically can do a real one, but often it takes a few tries, and I just don't have that kind of time before work. My hair is past waist... I may be a solid hip now, I haven't paid much attention. I've been sidetracked by life lately.

May 17th, 2013, 03:46 PM
That is my issue - I can do it, but it takes me 4 or 5 tries, and even then it's not as perfect as i'd like it to be. ;) Hopefully this fall my hair will be long enough to pull off a faux one.

This is very messy and frizzy, but I did a skinny french braid on one side of my head, and a diagonal french braid on the other side, stopping halfway to incorporate the skinny braid, then coiled the one braid into an off center bun.

Yeah, they're not the neatest ones, but they're going to get even messier in the morning. Definitely going to think up more double braid ideas for the rest of the month!

Thank you :) French braiding at my length is the only that keeps me obsessing how fast its growing.

I think your braiding skills are brilliant, and its not even that messy. Plus even if they were, the messy braids are in fashion anyways ;) Your hair is so thick and beautiful, any braid would look pretty (just saying)

Excuse the frizziness and darkness. I meant to take these before going out for the night, but I ran out of time. Then I got caught running across a parking lot in pouring rain, and my nice, neat spiral ropes turned fuzzy on me.

I decided to go with 3-strand rope braids for a night out with friends recently. I was just in the mood for something a little whimsical, I suppose. Of course, DBF and I got to the restaurant, slid into the booth, and the moment I reached for the menu I realized he was sitting on the end of one of my braids. So they went into rose buns after that.

http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz235/CeruleanSiren/LHC/RopeRoses_zps4737136c.jpg

ETA: I think I'd like to try this again with 4 strands per braid, or maybe Hawser braids.

Thank you! No, it wasn't intentional. I was originally using henndigo to keep my hair dark, but then I suddenly decided that I liked the look of bright orange roots, and so I became a hennahead instead. I would have liked to lift some of the dark colour, but I didn't want to risk ending up with green hair. I tried honey lightening, but it didn't make much of a difference :D
