Hey everyone!
I haven't been around much for the past year or so (that awkward moment when school becomes more important than hair, aw darn) but rest assured I've been practicing the tips I've picked up here, no matter where I'm at!
When I joined in Sept 2011, I was fed up with my colour-treated hair. I had been getting it highlighted for about 2 years at that point, and had experimented with highlights and box dyes on my own (why!?) during summer 2011. I cut my hair to around APL, but it was filled with layers and was dyed allover. Needless to say, I hated it. My ponytail circumference was pitiful, and my hair felt awful. It was determined to grow out healthy hair while also growing out my natural colour. Til about 2 months ago (so from Sept 2011 to February 2013) I was just steadily growing and trimming, still keeping off the dyes, deep conditioning, not heat styling, etc.
My hair is naturally soft and quite fine, but rather plentiful. Before I dyed my hair at all (way back in 2009) it was so much shiner/thicker/healthier. I really wanted that back. I was sporting the quasi-ombre look because of my highlights that I was growing out, and I was getting sick of how tangly the bottoms were and the great colour difference. So what did I do? Cut it, of course! I was around BSL/MBL this past winter, and cut back to a shorter BSL in March. Then, 2 weeks later, I cut it to APL. Then last night? Bob.
I only have a few inches of highlights left at the bottom of my canopy layer (underside has never been dyed, so that's all virgin) and my hair is SO much healthier! I've cut about 9 inches in total in the past 2 months, and I honestly feel great about it! My hair wasn't damaged per se, but the ends were so scraggly and unappealing IMO.
Sooo, now for the fun part, pictures!

January 2013 (after some sizeable trims, a couple that were around 2 inches): https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/528281_588552467823943_1455378404_n.jpg
This is a photo that captures my colour difference really well. I have no idea what camera setting this was on (that the contrast between warm and neutral was so great) but it really illustrates my point! And then finally... the bob! At least I'm calling it a bob, it may not be short enough to be called one "officially", but whatever. https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/562618_588554237823766_691272767_n.jpg
I was primarily just REALLY sick of the colour/quality difference. Slowly getting used to my short hair!
Thanks to everyone for the amazing advice they've given over the past year and a half, I really enjoyed the LHC community :) Hope everyone's hair growth journeys are going well!
