View Full Version : Another folded/tucked braid updo with Ficcare

I've been meaning to post this for a few days. I've been doing this style for a couple weeks now but I finally mastered it.
I started with a Faux French braid (check out Torrin Page on youtube for a tutorial). I secured the end with an elastic, loosely (you may be able to do this without an elastic but my hair all but laughs at that idea). I then folded it upward, and then downward right above the elastic (behind the braid that you see is mostly my braid tassel.) The elastic is somewhere either right above or below the clip, behind the braid, but if you do it right (and the braid is just *slightly* loose) it doesn't show. The end gets tucked into the base of the braid like if you were doing a Gibson tuck. Try not to let i fall out the bottom. I wind up tucking it to the side and pulling some of my 'side hair' over it.
This also works with a plain English braid, but only holds for a few hours. The Faux French braid holds like a rock, all day.
I secured it with a Ficcare (I can use either a Ficcarissimo or a Maximas). I haven't figured out how to hold it with sticks/forks/pins, let me know if anyone figures out a way. I'm hopeless with those things.

This style also gives AWESOME braid waves!!!!
One of the most comfortable styles I do so far. I love wearing this!

I can't see your pictures. I don't know why, but it's an issue on my end. From your description, it sounds like what I do. But mine is horizontal. I use sticks essentially as giant hair pins. But vertically that would be a challenge, as they would poke you in the neck. Here's a picture: http://imageshack.us/a/img708/3361/201303311613211.jpg

That's beautiful, Kaylee! I'd secure it with a flexi-8, not sure if it'd work with a stick or fork. :)

Wow, how did you get it horizontal like that?
It's beautiful!

Thank you. :flowers: Here's how you do it:
1. Divide hair in half, making the right side bigger. Braid the right side.
2. Bring the braid over to the left and use it as one of the strands of a braid on that side.
3. Bring the new braid back over to the right. Tuck the ends behind it and pin with a stick or pins. It holds really well for me and the ouch factor is minimal. It does come out looking different every time. The above pic was taken on Easter, so I'm glad it came out nice that day.

O, so elegant! And suits you well :applause
I've tried to make it, but the bottom half of my braid escapes to the sides :( Instead, I use my ficcare to do a kind of a braided bee-butt bun.

Thanks for the ideas. It's so pretty! This variation of your other recent faux braid updo helped me better understand that one which I really want to do. I guess I wasn't sure what a faux French braid was. But then I remembered Torrin Paige on YouTube has an old video about that!

I roll my 'side hair' over the bottom half of the braid...does that make sense?
It holds way better with the Ficcarissimo than the medium maximas....I didn't find the maximas to be nearly as comfortable. Or as idiot-proof.

I might try the updo when my hair dries. I never use my Ficcares. I just don't know any updos that work with them in my slippery hair. Thank you for the tip about the faux French braid! I have a problem with distributing the weight of my English braids. I usually start them as a Dianyla braid, which is better than a regular start, but I still don't get the weight very even. I will definitely try this way of starting the braid and see if that would be better!

Thanks for starting this! Here was my original contribution from the "show me your ficcare color" thread:
The FrannyG Braid Tutorials for the Ficcarissimo
I felt like I needed some variety of hairstyles I can do with my ficcarissimos since I use them more than my Maximas. Luckily, I've stumbled on a fellow LHCer "FrannyG" and her awesome tutorial utilizing braids for the ficcarissimos. Both are simple styles you can do with your ficcarissimo if you are ever bored with buns. I love how easy and quick it is to make these hairstyles, and my favorite is the "Flipped Braid." Thank you FrannyG. I hope you see this. Oh and what a coincidence that I have the exact ficcarissimos you used for each tutorial. I thought it would be fun to do this so that people will be able to compare both the style and ficcarissimos on very light hair versus on very dark hair.
Please Note:
*I used flash on my action shots because my hair is so dark that you wouldn't be able to see the braids. Because I used flash, my ficcarissimos will look brighter than Franny's, and hers is the right color for this kind of lighting.
*Click each of the pictures with me and Franny for the original tutorials.
*I accidently did an inward fold versus an outward fold, which is why my version looks slightly different in the first tutorial. :o

Awesome Rowie!! Now that I learned this style I prefer ficcarissimos to maximas. I am wearing one now in fact. I'll have to try her versions. I want more Ficarrissimos, I'm sad they changed them. Not sure I'm fond of the changes, but I haven't tried a new one yet.
