1000th post, 3rd year anniversary! (4th, even!)

Thank you, LHC! From my join date of April 9, 2010, until today, April 9, 2013, it has been quite the journey!

When I joined at nearly-knee, I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do with my hair. It was long because I’d kind of forgotten about it after it passed classic, but I had no idea really how to care for it. I’ve learned so much here.

Personally, the past few years have been packed with drama, both good and bad. I owe the community a huge thank you for giving me space to blog about it and receive wisdom from friends at all different life stages and from all over the world. It’s impossible to put into words how thankful I am for everyone, even if all you’ve done is say something silly on the boards (fish and chastity belts, anyone?) on a day when I was having a hard time in the real world.

This isn't "best hair," but it's a realistic shot of everyday hair with my oiled ends showing just how thin things are down there.

My hair is far from perfect. I have an impressive number of splits and don’t S&D nearly as often as I should. It’s been grumpy lately and tangling if you so much as look at it. There’s a pretty severe taper from about classic on down. But that hair’s been through a lot! It was probably growing out of my head back in college when I washed every day, couldn’t put together a nutritious meal to save my life, and got about 5 hours of sleep a night. I’m just glad it’s stuck around for so long. :)

Hair goal:
Remains the same. Terminal or floor, whichever happens first, and then a trim back to a manageable length. I’d like to wear my hair down sometimes and I haven’t really done that much since 2010.

@Wildcat Diva: Funny, I never thought of myself as having fairytale ends because I trim twice a year to keep things straight across the bottom. I'm totally overdue for a trim, however. It would look thinner further up if I'd oiled more than the last 4 inches, believe me.

@goldoli: Thanks! The braidwaves DO help. I'm on the edge of iii at the base of my ponytail and down to a i at the end.

@WaitingSoLong: Yeah, calf length just kind of snuck up on me! One day I was thinking "man, I've been at knee-ish forever" and the next I'm somehow down past the thickest part of my calf muscle. My texture is.. complicated. When my hair was short enough (BSL/waist? it was a long time ago) I had a slight wave to it all, just one or two S waves down the length. When I'm using a non-coney conditioner, I get EXCELLENT braid waves that hold for days. Now that I'm in Asia and can't find an affordable cone-free conditioner anywhere, the braid waves stay for a couple hours and then relax out back to straightish hair. (cross posting this to your visitor's messages in case it gets lost here)
